I just about jumped with glee when i saw this. However... I was saddened to see it was not the "Dragon Age 2 - Bioware Signature Edition". I had placed a pre-order for the SE PC version because I could never get a straight answer if there would be a version for the Macs. Now that I know there is, I want cancel my order so I can get the Mac version. I am worried now that I will lose out on "A download code for a bonus character and missions and A downloadable game soundtrack " ( I do actually enjoy soundtracks). I would love it if the alt character and soundtrack would eventually become available for the Mac people to Download. I do however get the feeling that I am out of luck here. :(

Edit: PC Se edition canceled...  Pre ordered my Mac version

Yay BioWare for releasing a Mac version! And f&%# all you Mac-haters - you don't know what you're talking about. The only reason Macs don't get cred for gaming is because people don't develop games for the platform. It comes down to numbers and that's it - there's no issues with poor software or hardware or any other crap like that. Historically, developers didn't see enough of a profit margin - now they are beginning to see that they can do it and make money and are now developing. If there was a problem with hardware it wouldn't run correctly in Boot Camp (and they all do, I know because I run them.) if it was a software issue than they wouldn't work in Cider or Wine (and they do because I played games like Fallout 3 & GTA IV without an issue). So stop your griping, take your PC and run your virus scanners all day, and leave us Macs to our preferred platform.

This is excellent news. Will most definitely be picking up the Mac version of Dragon Age II. Big thanks to both Bioware and GameTreeMac.

I have a mac... I bought DAO for it and I was disappointed for its bad performance and lack of dlc. So I tried a DAO PC version on bootcamp and it was perfect. With the same hardware...

So the question is... Is this DA2 for mac another crappy porting or shall we expect something good? Because now I'm quite suspicious

I gather you didn't update to 1.04? Because since that it runs smooth as a baby derriere on OSX and every DLC is available...

Regarding DA2 on Mac: WOOOOHOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!   :o:O:O:O

Freaking awesome. So I'm strongly leaning towards buying the DVD then as it's dual platform. I wonder if the digital download are dual platform as well..

THANK YOU BIOWARE!

As I'm getting older I have less interest in keeping my PC up to day. The Mac while more expensive is a thing of beauty. I'm glad to see more and more game developers recognizing it as a good gaming platform! and Valve made sure Apple has pushed the performance up several notches as well

In one of the videos I watched earlier today one of the developers stated DA2 was coming to 360, PS3, PC and Mac, then said the demo will be available on the 22nd for 360, PS3 and PC.

So unless something changes between now and then it looks like it will not be.

Too bad but acceptable. It's probably hard enough to get the DEMO out the door and get the cider port stable enough for release without having to worry about the demo. Luckily I have a win 7 boot camp edition to boot too should I need to

I'm skeptical of DA2 living up to the original, but you know what: I will buy it anyway now.

Thanks Bioware, it's good to be heard.

I don't know from what I've seen the story telling has an interesting twist. The plot seems more interesting (I didn't like the fight the mindless ancient evil part) the combat that was kinda boring in DA:O is at least a lot flashier and more mobile.

Graphic wise it's a minor step up and on the edge of too cartoonish for me, but it wouldn't suprise me if it is better then DA:O and their best game to date (and yes BGII has a spot in my heart but it was quite repetitive and limited compared to DA:O).

The good thing with the graphics being a minor step up is that I'm not too worried about the cider port and openGL being able to handle it.

If I may ask a nooby question: I have played Half-Life on Mac Steam some years ago (because that was the only version available) but that was the only experience I had with Steam. So, why are people asking about a Mac Steam version? What would be the advantage?

And another question (for those who own the (PC) disk version): Do you need to have the DVD present in your drive in order to play the disk version? For me, that is a major disadvantage, because of the noise of my drive and the (possible) performance drop while constantly checking for the disk... Although I feel more comfortable with owning a physical representation of a game, this is what I liked about the digital download version.

Since the game is still keyed to a BioWare social account, I imagine that they'd be able to draw on the information uploaded to your characters' online log to create the rough equivalent of an endgame save. Hopefully.

Not sure if you can have cloud based saves but I did successfully tranfer me DA:O saves from Vista to MAC and played DA:A on MAC. I simply copied the characters directory (onto mobilme) and saved it on the Mac and it automatically showed up on the Mac when I started the game so you should be able to tranfer back and forth using a USB stick or something.

The cloud save is why I hope they release it on Steam so that I wouldn't have to worry about transferring the files between computers.

With DA:O, the saves are transferrable from PC to Mac and back without problem. The directory structure inside [$documentfolder]/BioWare is the same. Saves and addins work on both sides.

So, back to my question, the advantage of a Steam version is that you store your personal game files online? I don't think I need that. When I last played a Steam game, I found the need to be online while playing more annoying than useful.

Yes with steam saves are stored online so you can more easily switch computers as the saves follow you. Also good if you want to uninstall a game. Steam also takes care of patching games (not that it's that hard).

I also like that you can pre-download the game and have it enabled later. Saves time on launch day :-). Leaning towards picking up the game on the way from work and have it on disc.

Other then that they are as good/bad as any other source.

OK, thank you for the explanation. I think I'll take it the way it comes, in the end. I think the real gripe I have is that with Steam, there is yet another ported program (the Steam client) involved, with the possibility of failure...

(I still haven't got around playing Awakening, anyway, so when I'm ready for DA2, initial problems will hopefully be straightened out by them...)

Another advantage of the WIN/Mac hybrid package is that the price would probably drop faster for the retail version, contrary to the custom to keep Mac game prices high over years even when you can already find the Win version for $10...

(When I played Neverwinter Nights, I found the Windows version of the two expansions (HotU and SoU) together in a jewel case for a minimum price in some bargain distribution, while the Mac versions were still at $30 EACH. Needless to say that there was no problem installing the Windows expansions on the MAc system, since they were basically modules...)

So if we want to grab the Mac version we pretty much have to give up SE then don't we?
