Why would you want Hawke to be hairy?

Then everyone will be talking about Warren Zevran's new bardic hit, "Werewolves in Lothering."

Ah yes, the great bowstring shortage of Ferelden.  Truly the worst catastrophe of the age.  Never mind the Blight, WHERE ARE OUR BOWSTRINGS DANGNABBIT!

Anyway, if BioWare don't include it, some resourceful person far cleverer than I am will mod it in.

Mike Hawke should be hairy. Long hair can only contribute.

BLASPHEMY!  What about that beard?  You will deprive him of all his strength without his beard!  And his sideburns!

Clipping long hair is one of those things that bothers me. However, this decision is ultimately a preference one. I'm just glad BioWare shares my preference :P.

I would love to have proper long hair in Dragon Age 2 but I highly doubt that Bioware would ever implement it. It seems that if we want long hair we will probably have to mod it in ourselves.

It wouldnt be impossible for Bioware to implement long animated flowing hair however it seems that Bioware thinks that character customization isnt important and wont commit the resources needed to implement it properly.

No, it's just that giving Hawke luscious long flowing locks is a secondary concern of theirs.  After, ya know, the VA and the story and the pacing and the level design.  Just trivial things, really ;)

That being said, I wouldn't mind long hair if it could be done well.  I'm not the world's biggest fan of the FF franchise, but their hair and cloth physics in FFXIII's engine were pretty damn impressive.  Though frankly, I'd rather BioWare spend their time on more important things.

Yes you are right, character customization is a secondary concern and especially since Hawke is a preset character I would say it is their last concern (I wouldnt be surprised if they even put less resources into the character creation than they did in Origins). I am not say that they should make character customization their primary concern however I am saying it would be nice if they actually did devote a few more resources to it and make it much better than it was.

Like the one on your avatar?

I think they could divide thin haired hairstyles and thicker ones.

The one on my avatar is a bit too thick honestly. It looks nice from certain angles. But that's it.(Not to mention, it's not terribly realistic.)

Somewhere in between would be nice though. Having hairstyles that look like the character doesn't necessarily have baby fine hair would be nice.

I shouldn't be giggling as much as I am about the hair for Mike Hawke conversation.

Would you say the hair in the photo is too thin? Or is that what we're aiming for?

No, it looks fine.

Though I think more of the female DA hairstyles as looking too thin. Mostly because I tend to only play females.

I wand long hair. I also want short hair, medium hair, and everything in between.
While we're on the subject of hair, I want more longer hairstyles for men, and more shorter hairstyles for women. Or Bioware could just simplify it and allow us to use hairstyles from both genders freely between each other.

By the way, did anyone wanted their character to have slicked back hair? I sure as hell did want one for my fem Warden. Something exactly like in the pic below. I would jump in joy if they added it along with a long hair variation.

They could seriously be better(female styles). I mean dang.

But I would totally rock a female if I could roll her with the Lady of the Forest's hairstyle.

How would someone in that day and age slick their hair back?

Heaps and heaps of earwax? That's what they used for mustaches.

I don't know if I'd use long hairstyles even if they were properly flowy and looked awesome, just because I'd spend the entire game thinking about how silly it is to go into a battle with long hair flowing all over the place. I liked the look of characters with long hair in the Final Fantasy games, but they're decidedly less realistic in style than the Dragon Age world.

And if long hair models done by Bioware themselves would look like the ones modders have already made, then forget it. Those over-the-top anime styles look ridiculous enough in a realistic fantasy setting, but then they also clip like crazy and are stiff and unnatural-looking.

Depends how long the hair is for it to be flowing all over the place.

The longest we got in DAO was the braided ponytail. Good way to keep long hair out of your eyes, but not good in representing the long hair some of us are asking for.

The thing is that hair is an investment for the animators. It's pretty clear from DA:O and DA:A that the physics modeled by Dragon Age's engine is not designed to handle sophisticated cloth/hair physics. They're rudimentary at best and nonexistent at worst. So if they're using the same engine to make DA2 which it looks like they are considering the rapid turn-around time, any changes to hair physics would have to be animated by hand.

PAIN IN THE TUSH. EPIC PAIN.

Personally, I'm not a huge stickler for excellent graphics, but long hair that looks like it's been starched and ironed is just silly.

Even a moderately long ponytail would put the wearer at risk of being grabbed by the hair, I would think. Anyway, long hair would probably require not only more complex physics for the hair, but also a lot of work to avoid clipping issues with many different armor and models. Hair flows differently depending on what's under it, doesn't it?

It would be kind of fun to see your PC's hair blowing in the wind whether long or short, but it seems like a lot of trouble for something fairly insignificant.

They could have the hair lie on the armor, rather than clip through it.

I think that there should be a Mohawk option too. I like to rock the Mohawk once in a while, so my game charaters should too. I like the one in Skate 2.B)

Agreed. You can't look metal without long hair.

Exactly. I want really long hair like a real metalhead style. My own hair is quite long and I'd love to have some good long hair styles in Dragon Age 2. I hope they at least have some good customisation option with the one race they have.
