1) expensive
it has been stated many times that full voice would have been too expensive for DA:O. Now that they are doing it in DA2 something has to give.
- Using existing engine, while still improving it could free up some of the budget
- First known Knife cut are the origins (they were cut most likely for several reasons but do not doubt that this played a role)
- a voiced pc ( for a game similar to DA or ME) is likely to increase voicework in the range of 40-50% [note that would give pc around 30% of the new total voicework which i'd say is even a conservative estimate]. PC is involved in nearly all dialogues and has usually several choices.
--- how to reduce this new cost furthers? less dialogue options and less gametime then in DA:O
2) time intensive
VO is neither simple nor quickly done, and the amount of VO work you can do will be also limited by the development timeof the product, which for DA2 seems to be similar /shorter then ME2
--- It is hard to compare but nonetheless i think it is sensible not to expect more dialogue in DA2 then we have seen in ME2
These reasonings are not perfect but give me sufficient worry to think that DA2 will be substantially shorter than DA:O. I think its highly likely that in gamelength it will be more comparable to ME2 then to DA:O.
