Thoughts?
Microsoft brought us Jade Empire and Knights of the Old Republic.
EA brought us the bugged mess of Dragon Age: Awakening at ten dollars higher than it should have been (33% cost increase), which still hasn't been fixed and which broke certain aspects of Origins. They also brought us tons and tons of crap DLC, which were supposedly to help fund an expansion and future patching.
Now DA2 is coming out less than two years after DAO. Let's not forget that DAA came out five months after DAO.
EA has changed somewhat, but they still seem to be following the same direction of releasing one quality game, then milking the ever-loving **** out of the fans.
Also, EA's ineptness affects me more than Microsoft, so they're, by definition, more evil.

Agree. It is too abrupt and drastic a shift. The devs will come on and say "we are making the game we always wanted to make, blah, blah." Ya, right.errant_knight wrote...

When in doubt, blame the publisher!
*shrugs* Something changed, and it wasn't the people running Bioware, or the writers. Unless someone was forced out that I haven't heard about. DA:O and Mass Effect 2 were in production at the same time, so it wasn't like they hadn't conceived of the style. They chose to make the two games quite different, but now they're ditching the DA:O model for the Mass Effect one. If DA:O had sold poorly, or been trashed in reviews, that might have made sense on it's own, but since it wasn't, there must be some other explanation. It may not be EA, but it was something. And I really think that wheel has EA written all over it in terms of GUI.

It's related to reducing production costs along with a bit of dumbing down.In Exile wrote...
I'm pretty sure DA sold comparably to ME across the platforms. I don't think the decision to switch dalogue systems is exclusively related to any $$ figure only, just like giving us the abhorent find random tree party dialogue system in DA:A likely didn't tie into $$.

You know, were this a month ago I would tell you that you were crazy, now with this huge push to turn Dragon Age 2 into Mass Effect I am not so sure. Dragon Age was supposed to be a return to what made their previous games great (more specifically the Baldur's Gate series which rank among my all time favorite games), however now it seems that they are willing to alienate their oldest fans in their quest to turn every new game they make into shallow action/adventure games like Mass Effect.
I know it is too early to judge the game on what little information we have and I will give Bioware a chance to show they havent completely lost their marbles but from the information we have on Dragon Age 2 at the moment I am really not looking forward to the game.

Bioware just wants to try new things, I'm quite glad they're changing up the story narrative. I just wish it didn't come at the expense of roleplaying.

Well then they obviously will succeed with those goals. 1/3 as many races, only one origin for the one race. Your only choice is gender. Less dialogue options with less control over what you actually say. Sounds cheaper and dumber to me.

I am sorry but what are these "new things" Bioware is trying in Dragon Age 2? As far as I can see all of the "new things" have already been done in Mass Effect, we are not afraid of change but when the changes we see are the same things that we diddnt like in Mass Effect I think we have a right to be upset.

]I was refering to the concept art. If the actual screenshots are like DAO, then I am relieved.
For reference, these are the 2 tiny screens from Play.com:
Is that how the Darkspawn look like now?
Or is this just an unfinished scene where they haven't fully polished it yet?
I mean the faces of the Darkspawn and Hawke look kinda off.

Why is it when the developers decide to change the game up it always HAS to be the publisher's fault? Bioware is one of the most successful companies around and EA knows it; that's why they've given Bioware a blank check for The Old Republic. Maybe this is what BIOWARE wants, not EA.
But hey, maybe I'm just crazy.
