I think people just like to be negative. Especially when they have no idea what happened, yet...

Probably not. Most likely we will have to play the part of escaping from Lothering.

If we do, can we have Sten and Leliana cameos if we left them there?
Ahhh, what am I kidding, we probably won't even recognize the Lothering in DA2 in terms of building and terrain locations...

So... I find it funny that people are calling Hawke a coward from escaping Lothering before it was destroyed... But... Isn't that exactly what Warden did in Origins? Warden and his group left Lothering to find help against the Blight, because they couldn't fight the blight without that help. They knew that the blight was coming to Lothering, that was just obvious. They knew Lothering was going to be destroyed. And instead of staying, Warden left in order to find help and also not to get killed. So why is everyone so hard on Hawke?
I think people just like to be negative. Especially when they have no idea what happened, yet...
Maybe because he/she fled the country rather than attempt to fight in a more defensible place? Maybe Hawke will have a reason that makes it understandable, like [redacted because this is a non-spoilers forum], but the reason better be pretty darn compelling, or it looks like he/she just abandoned his/her country.

I agree with you. Pretty much every knew the Darkspawn Horde would hit Lothering first a small barely protected town.
And all we know about Hawke that he is a penniless refugee when he arives in the Free Marches, we don't even know if he had any combat training before.
I also hope that they will show how Hawke deals with the guilt of losing Lothering and it inhabitants.
And personally if an army was invading my town, I would try too save my family and get out hopeing everybody will bee OK.

Mage runs away from Templars.
City Elf runs away from Denerim Guards.
Dwarf Noble runs away from **** brother.
Really the Dalish Elf is the only heroic origin, just trying to get himself/herself cured, and then is all like "Oh yeah, the Blight? I got this ****."

I'm expecting it to tell you the truth. I'm even expecting them to mention the warden. I'm expecting the town to look the same. I'm expecting sten and leliana to have cameos. But that's just me. Why focus on the city, if you aren't going to use all the resources from the previous game?

Because retreating when you're wildly outnumbered and bound to be slaughtered is cowardice of the most despicable variety. If you can call more than two braincells your own, you're clearly a cheese-eating surrender monkey. Didn't you know?
If the farmers/fishermen from Redcliffe can go to Denerim to fight, which they do, that's much of an argument. That means that, without a very good personal reason for leaving, the bridge guard is a much better man than Hawke.

I think the idea is that Hawke is some illiterate skilless refugee, and grows into a hero through the story. So Hawke runs away because dirt farming is not an awesome anti-darkspawn fighting skill. The fact Hawke can be a mage, though, seems hard to reconcile with that.
Yeah the starting from schratch and becoming a great Hero is usually a good fantasy setting.
Like the Wheel of Time series where you see Rand starting as a sheepherder at his farm and slowly but surly becoming a Hero.

Hawke should totally bust Sten out of his cage and escape with Leliana.
Sten Bromance 2.0
Leliana Romance 2.0

He should have improvised with some Darkspawn Blo -- oh wait.
