Hey all -

I am trying to work my way through the 'Fade'. I seem to be unable to get past a room full of wizards who keeping kicking my butt.

I am not sure how to explain this room but here goes.
Just before the room full of wizards I had to kill a few Rage Demons who kept poppin up from the ground by - what looks like fireplaces. After I killed these guys the next room has the wizards but, in order to get ino the room I had to shape **** into the (can't remember the name) 'burning man' in order to open the door.

As soon as I get in there I can probably kill one but by then I am pretty much toast.
Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Yep, that`s where I most often die in the Fade. They use lightning a lot which hurts and drains your mana or stamina. You can hit three of them with a fireball to start then run back out of the room and out of their line of sight. Try to keep casting while staying out of line of sight - winter`s grasp, crushing prison, fireball. Keep retreating to do so.

what class are you? I personally had no problems any part of the fade. What i would suggest doing is Shaping into the golem and attacking them, you can use the ground slam to stun any of them near you. then just pummel them if you get low on health shape back to your normal form then use a health pultice and shape back

I am level 9 human. I do not have the Golem shape-shift power just yet. I wonder if I missed something that I should have at this point?

I have mouse, the fire-person and the spirit shifting abilities so far.

There was a large troll (or something) I was unable to kill so I went to a different part of the Fade thinking I would return to him later. I wonder if I must go back first... hmm....

You need to get through that particular room to get the golem form.

I tired the hit n' run idea but, they followed me! I tried to turn into a mouse and escape through a mouse hole but, that didn't work very well...

There's a lyrium vein on the other side of the door there. A lot of times I'll toss a fireball in to knock a few of them over then melee the closest one down. You can use LoS with a pillar there until fireball comes off cooldown. Since you are immune to its damage you can just shoot it straight into the floor when they come around the corner. If you take some damage you can always recharge health + mana with the lyrium vein. I find I have more success with charging into the room rather than shooting a fireball and retreating

If this is the room I believe it is, a well placed Fireball can envelope three of the four (in Burning man form). Then a continued assault usually has the room cleared quickly.

I just use the potent health poultices. and Lyrium veins, but that is the hardest part of the fade for me.

Toss a fireball in the midst of the first three then break line of sight to draw them into the doorway. Toss more fireballs as it recharges. Alternatively, on my most recent play through, two of the mages killed each other off before I even came close to them. May have been a glitch, but until they agro on you, they fight and damage each other. You possibly could just trigger the room then let them kill themselves.

Whenever I try to kite them away I always seem to get lightning'd, paralyzed, stonefisted to death before my fireball can recharge. Charging into the room and using pillars plus the lyrium vein has yielded the most success for me(on nightmare anyway)

I've only ever tried this on Normal, but what I do is open the door, let a few of them see me, then retreat to the previous room (that had all the servants). Once I enter that room, I actually stand just to the left of the door. Since the Mages need Line of Sight before they can cast any spells, they'll come running after you. Since they can't see you next to the door, they barrel right through it, and end up right next to me. At that point, they're surprisingly fragile.

Once I take those first few mage's out, I actually save, then head into the room you're talking about and finish off anyone left.

I will warn you: the room after the one you're having trouble with will be just as hard, as it has roughly as many Mage's, but in a much smaller space. They don't seem to be able to be hurt until after they actively go hostile, but once they do, I like to pop a fireball to knock them all on their rears, then charge and finish as many as I can off while they're down.

The ones in the next room only seem to use fire spells from what I can tell. Big dummies cast inferno right on top of themselves(even though it only hurts them and not you if you are burning man)

Thanks for all the replies - i'll give it another shot. I was getting pretty frustrated with this particular area.

I was thinking about getting the DA:O book / walk-through ... does anyone here purchase the walk-throughs?

Not for me; the Wiki is free, and has lots of info.

Don't bother with guides. If you're patient, then you can get all the information you want for free on the net. A game like Dragon Age is particularly hard to write a guide for. I can personally attest to the fact that the guide is useless.

Turn into the burning man, toss a fireball (make sure it hits the most amount of mages), and then get close enough to do the flamethrower spell (forgot its name). After at least one or two died, change into the spirit form and crushing prison the survivor. Make sure you don't go too far into the room because there will be more on the other side. Anyways, I did this on nightmare with a two-hander works wonders.

Erh, why just wait a little to them kil themselves?  All the humans mages are enemies on the Fade and try to do the most damage, so, just near  enough for them become hostile and run by your lifes, they will  attack between until one or two remain ...

Not saying this is the best or easiest way, but this is always how I do it. I get both Spirit and Burning Man form first off.

I change into Burning Man and shoot a fireball at the mages. This will attract their attention in a big way, but if you quickly change to Spirit its high magic resistance should help you out greatly. Fireball will also wipe out the mages with lower health.

From there I usually cast Crushing Prison on the mage with the most health left and freeze another one. Then I cast Regen on myself and change back to my regular form and run around cutting the mages down. Regen should keep your health up for you while you close the gap between yourself and any remaining mages.

If need be change back into Burning Man to use another fireball or into Spirit to cast Regen or Crushing Prison.

I had a lot of trouble with that part of the fade in the beginning as well.

This is what works for me on hard difficulty:

Assume burning man form if you're not already in that form after killing the rage demons by the fireplaces.
Go to the door, open it, then immediately close it.
Run south from the door in the room, turn and face the direction of the door and ready a fireball.
When a mage opens the door and tries to kill you, fireball him.
Rinse and repeat as necessary.
There will still be one left in the room they came from, but I'm sure you have an idea of how to take on a single mage at a time.
