Now all respect to David, but this is a bit of an exaggeration. But I have high hopes for the story of DA2. I've read on the Game Informer site, that this story won't be about defeating an ancient evil, and defeating the blight. It will be more personal story (just like in the BG series). And this is good.thenemesis77 wrote...

What I've seen on the DA2 forums over the last two days is that over 80% of the whining is nothing short of despicable and pathetic with an air of "Why aren't they tailoring the game to me?!" Hell, many of these arguments have no factual base and are simply blowing something out of proportion.
Thing is, what has been announced looks to be quite a departure from DA:O, the 'spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate'. Mostly, it seems, in the protagonist. What I love in an RPG is the ability to create and tailor a character to my tastes & preference. I love to take that character on these awesome stories and take them through plot twists and turns, to have them fight against all the odds and triumph. With that character I may laugh, I may cry (I almost did when I sacrificed my Warden at the end of DA:O first play through. Solid lump in my throat for ages), but at the end of the day, the story I went through with my character was not the same as someone elses.
Playing as a pre-determined character is anathema to me. I hate it. Its why I hate the FF games, why I didn't like ME, I don't enjoy playing an RPG as someone elses character, as its not my character.
I think, essentially thats the bitter pill to swallow. It's no longer a story about our character, but about Biowares. I know in DA:O we didn't really have that much freedom anyway, we had to be Grey Wardens, which I was a little suspicious about my character having to be before I actually played it, but the character creation & tailoring of that character was an important part of freedom in the game.
It feels like elements are being taken away from DA:O with nothing substantial taking their place. It seems to be a common occurance with sequels these days - instead of expanding upon gameplay mechanics & elements of the game, bits are hacked out or passed over.
However saying that, I do have quite a bit of faith in Bioware. I've played their games since Baldurs Gate I came out, I loved BG2 and the IWD games. KOTOR & KOTOR2 were absolutely fantastic games, and with Dragon Age: Origins, I really, really enjoyed it, seeing as I went in with blind faith at the last minute before release only knowing it was a Bioware game. So I would say I am intrigued to see what they do with DA2...but I can understand why there's so much anguish and uncertainty currently.

I have lashed out as many othere have and again I'am sorry for that. I was taken on such a ride with DAO, unlike anything I have had, either in a book or a game and I didn't want it to end. I wanted to see my Warden save Morrigan and the child, for how ever that sound corney or not. I really want somekind of end for him and with DAA, I felt like he left but was not done and his story was not done. I know David has great storys and I will not lie, I bet he has a great one for DA2 and I have no dought it will do well. Many of you have seen me vent out on the boards and I thank the mods for putting up with it and I would like to say Iam sorry to them too. You just never want to see a good story with characters you love end and it is sad to me, like any book, I have grown to love them. I hope we can all take a few steps back and see what David has for us, I know I have not even given the man a chance and Iam sorry David, really Iam.
LOL! I rest my case...

"Planescape" and "Torment".
Pre-determined character, few classes to choose from, completely epic experience.

You don't need to be sorry, Nemesis. I know when people lash out about a game it's because they feel a lot of ownership-- and that's quite a compliment, thank you. I truly hope you do enjoy what we have in store for you.

My brother plays the game just now. It is truly one of the best RPGs ever. This doesn't mean that Bioware should make a predetermined character as well.Pocketgb wrote...

I may not have been the biggest fan of the story or the combat, but holy COW I could get lost in all those codex entries. The Dragon Age universe has some incredibly delicious lore backing it up.

If the Warden isn't the character we follow... then why was so much left open when it came to his/her ending? As a Cousland romancing Morrigan, I felt as though I'd been stabbed in the back (in a brilliant way) when her ending came about. I was immediately in anticipation of a sequel, especially considering that tons of plot was left up in the air concerning our little Warden.
I had no idea why Morrigan left, what she intended to do. In fact, the knowledge that I have yet to locate her and discover this crosses my mind almost daily. That's how amazing this story was. Yet, when I was hoping that my Warden finds some sort of closure... Surprise! You actually play as Hawke, someplace else, doing other stuff, thus making it so that everything I cared about in DAO is just a drop in the bucket.
I completely understand that they're crafting a world, that there are other stories to be told. But why couldn't you have finished MY story? Is there something so pressing about this Hawke fellow that MY character doesn't get to end his journey?
Does it not say something about the quality of writing if I'm left wondering if my Warden dying would have ended things better? I'm not knocking it at all, it was a brilliant way to go, but as great a writer as David - really the staff as a whole - is, it smacks of very BAD writing if you are going to ignore several very sequel bait-y plot threads.
Here's how it ended for me:
- Morrigan out there with my baby, doing Maker knows what.
- The Architect dead and the Darkspawn going about their business as usual.
- Myself having disappeared to go on some undefined adventure.
Okay... But then I'm told that Hawke will be the focus of the next game, that my Warden isn't the most important person on Thedas, and that the Dragon Age setting has many tales.
Fine. But why is MY tale left unfinished? Why is it that everything about DAO seems to support the idea that MY character will go on to fight all sorts of evil and nastiness and have personal revelations and whatnot if you have no intention of making him at all central?
It just seems like they plotted a perfectly good story arc concerning the Warden and the ramifications of the Blight and choices made therein, only for it all to be swept to the side as we follow someone who has nothing to do with any of it.

Well but I still would find it reasonable that if my first product is an unexpected success, I don't change too many things for the follow-up. If the follow-up has lower sales you can look for problems. If you keep changing around things without any feedback then how could you possibly know that you are doing it right?
What can I say I am always saying the same thing. I am disappointed my warden's story ends so soon. As I was disappointed of DA:A because I could only keep the one party member I found disgusting, Oghren. Not to mention what they did to Mhairi ... I'd given them the two dwarves in exchange.
The way I see it is this:
It would be a real cop-out if BioWare, because of all the Warden love, were to scrap their plans of how they wanted to tell the story of Thedas and instead JUST tell it through the eyes of a Grey Warden, reskinning DAO into a new game with slightly updated features be it inventory, approval system, what have you
I don't see where asking for DLC or an Expansion Pack to end their original warden story would be a cop-out.

Obviously i'm going with what I currently know, perhaps I should've clarified. I admit in all likelyhood I am overreacting. But the dialogue wheel and a voiced protaganist were some of Mass Effects biggest flaws in my opinion. It limits roleplaying and constricted the player to a "Good", "Bad", and "Meh" response, with the occasional "Probe for information". To see this system is being replicated in the sequel of a game I considered far superior makes me uneasy and, it seems, irrational.
