I hope it never gets made into an MMO. Not that I don't think they could do a good job...I'm just sick of every little thing trying to be an MMO. Plus then story tends to go out the window in favor of class balance squabbles and the like.

Yeah I would like it if Bioware kept DA a singleplayer game as well.

I see it misspelled "Free Marshes" so often I immediately think of a huge swamp whenever it's brought up now. Just from the concept art it looks to be rolling lowlands though.

Nevarra is a separate place-- a nation that lies to the west of the Free Marches, between it and Orlais. The College of the Magi is in a city named Cumberland, in Nevarra.

Kirkwall is one of the Free Marches city-states that lies directly to the north of Ferelden, across the Waking Sea. It has an interesting background, which I'm sure we'll get into in more detail in the months to come.

David Gaider, I know I've said this a million times, but I absolutely adore how you guys have the entire world figured out, even if you don't show us.

As for the city states... It sounds to me that the city states of the Free Marshes are the Hansa, while the Antivian ones are the Italian city states. Same same but different.

I always thought Antiva was more based on Spain.
But then again i purly based that on Zevran's accent.

hmmmm i think antiva is based on italy, that whole murder thing just fits better. i wouldn't say the free marches represent the Hanse, rather city states like venice.

The names of the Free marches city-states sound germanic so it makes sense that they would resemble the squabbling baronys, etc of early medieval germany.

Possibly, but prolly pre-united Germanic states would be more apt, since many nations in DA seem based off of Middle Ages-ish nations.

Antiva's based off of the Venice city state, by the way.  The Spanish accent is just to distinguish them.

Fun fact: Nevarra is home of the Neverran Dragon Hunters. :D

I just wonder what the landscape is of Kikwall and the Free Marches, seems like it's going to be alot more untame then Ferelden.

Well those two released screenshot's showed a desert like landscape.
And according to the timeline released by Game Informer, Kirkwall was a city where a lot of Elven slaves worked (it was called The City of Chains), the Qunari invaded it once and Templars killed the former ruler and still have a lot of power in Kirkwall.

Yeah I'm curious as to what the terain of the Free Marches include.  I think I had previously associated the Free Marches with swampland (heh probably by confusing Free Marches with Free Marshes) but what type of landscape(s) are we going to be visiting?

In the Free Marches, we will see humans, elves, dwarves, darkspawn, qunari, dragons, drakes, undead, spirits/demons, walls, doors, windows, roofs, tools, armor, weapons, clothing, jewelry, dogs, cats, wolves, bears, water, grass, dirt, signs, blood, stones, boats, trees, coins, tables, chairs, portraits, cages, wood, and ninjas. Well, you won't see ninjas, but that's because they are ninjas. Trust me, they're there. Maybe a zombie kitten army.... must be a ton of those things with the reaction to DA2 so far. Is that first army from DA1 still at Edmonton, or has it moved on?

I would like to see some swamplands in this game. Better than the Korcari Wilds.

Allowing that Ferelden is colder in the south, and that Ferelden = England, then I believe that the Free Marches = southern England.

In DA2, we can therefore expect overcrowding, Chelsea tractors, Boris Johnson and Wimbledon. And maybe the 2012 Olympics if there release date is changed.

Intersting, in the timeline we learn that Kirckwall is ruled by a Viscount, so I wonder if that is true of all the city states, or if thier styles of goverment vary from city to city?

I hope that's not the case or this game will be very short for me:

Locals: "Help, the Darkspawn are invading"
My Hawke: "Good."

College of Magi? And here I thought all the education was down in the tower.

There has to be somewhere where the senior enchanters lay down the ground rules for the circles.

I always thought there where more then one Circle in each country.
And if the Senior Encharters of each Circle meet somewhere to lay down the rules,I think it would be somewhere else.
Like where the Chantry has more power, because I heard that in some parts in Thedas they don't believe in the Maker.
The Dalish and Qunari are obvious, but there must be others.

I would think that either the Orlesian Circle Tower, the Circle of Minrathous in Tevinter, or the College in Cumberland is the head of the circle. Orlais is the head of the Andrastian Chantry, giving it the most direct power over the circle, the Tevinter Circle follows the Imperial Chantry, but it also has the most advanced magicks.
The Dalish who roam Thedas everywhere besides Rivain belive in the Creators and give respect to Andraste. The Rivaini have a permanent Dalish encampment on the outskirts of their country who possibly follow the Qun (like the Rivaini on the northern coast) or they believe in the creators as the other Dalish do. Rivaini natives don't believe in the Maker or the Qun or the creators except for the groups I mentioned as far as I know

Anderfels is the in-game equivalent to Germany.
Anderfels - Germany
Orlais - France (Obviously)
Antiva - Italy (Specifically Venice I think)
Free Marches - Ancient Greece (I think because it has a bunch of city states)
Seheron and Par Vollen - North African Moorish territory
Rivain - Spain (The Northern tip is converted to the Qun, the possible real life equivalent to the Quaran and the Moslim faith)
Tevinter - The Holy Roman Empire area (Charlemagnes territory, the king who conquered almost all of Western Europe and Latinized the languages)
Ferelden - Great Britain and Scotland, with the Korcari Wilds as the untamed frozen wasteland that is similar to Scandinavia, where the Vikings (A.K.A. Chasind) come from)
This is how I see it anyways, not sure if it is true

Or Canaan, or Sumer, or even Medieval Italy.  There were many more city-states than those in Greece.

Antiva is a mix between Italy and Spain, I think.

Tevinter is based off of Byzantium (empire that covered most of Europe, but entered a decline and was in constant war with the Muslims, much like Tevinter covering Thedas, entered a decline and is in constant war with the Qunari).

Perhaps an option to change sides and help the Darkspawn, in that case? I'd quite happily chase Boris Johnson around with a sword
