Soooo....my PC is strong enough eh? I just remember telling the guy I'd like a good computer for school work and gaming...
and yet...everytime I would try to load a game...i'd get an error... or it wouldn't load....
Yes, you'll certainly be able to run BG2, no problem.
One thing that stands out in your computer setup is that you're running Vista on only 1 GB of memory. I believe the recommended amount for running Vista is twise that. (that's off the top of my head, so I'm not sure.)
With only 1 GB of memory, Windows XP would have been better.
But be comforted in the knowledge that if you do get BG2, you'll have months and months of pure gaming pleasure ahead.
And it's got a soundtrack that I still consider one of the best, and most memorable.

My mum has a lappy with 1GB RAM and Vista HP, and I'm confident that'd have no problems with BG2.

Not as far as I'm aware. I believe the Space Hamster you can buy is more of an Easter Egg in that it's a reference to another game series. You find references like that all over the place in many games.Cypher0020 wrote...

My hamster does not like your tone. Away with ye.
Take heart fellow adventurers, for you have curried the favor of Boo, The only miniature giant space hamster in the Realm. My friend and companion ever since my h-h-head wound, he will lead us to victory! Onward to the Gnoll Stronghold to the west! Tarry not! We must go soon!
Go for the eyes Boo, GO FOR THE EYES!! RrraaaAAGHGHH!!! ( Tali say's something similar in ME2, as I recall.... )
When the going gets tough, someone hold my rodent!
Make way evil! I'm armed to the teeth and packing a hamster!
My hamster's getting antsy. If we be adventurers, let us adventure! (Context: Minsc standing idle.---Game: Baldurs Gate 1)
This behavior must not continue. Feel the burning stare of my hamster and change your ways.
Then say it louder! We must inspire fear in evil! Quiet tales of hamsters are foolish, but a man and his hamster that tear evil limb from limb? That's scary!
Boo and I will say we knew the hero . And people will of course not believe us. And, maybe, they will look at us more strangely than they do now. Or Maybe not. (Context: Near the end, I refuse to spoil it..---Game:
Baldurs Gate 2)

(Context: Context: Minsc gets introduced to the Pirate-lord to prove that the party is insane.---Game: Baldurs Gate 2)
Boo will soon have you figured out.You certainly seem friendlier than I would expect a Pirate Lord to be. And where is your peg?
A peg. A proper pirate has a peg, whether a leg, or arm, or... uh... some other expendable extremity. And a parrot.
Certainly! As I have my Boo, so too you must have a parrot. Boo likes parrots. They could wrassel.

But for a really old game, play the entire SSI Goldbox series. They're to Baldur's Gate what Baldur's Gate is to Dragon Age.

Ok so tomorrow is my 23rd birthday.... and even though I'm totally broke, if there's a small chance I can get a gift....if I get to a game store, and if if if......well w/o spoilers what is that game? I see constant comparisons to it, etc.....
Oh and where would I find my laptop specs...if I could even run the thing?
Don't worry about specs. A microwave oven could probably run BG1
One thing though: Baldur's Gate was initially intended to run at a max resolution of 1024 x 768. You will need the widescreen mod to get good and "non stretched" graphics on modern systems.
You may also want to install the Tutu mod. What it does is fuse Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 into one massive game. This allows you to play BG1 using BG2's engine.
Another great addition to Baldur's Gate is the Unfinished business mod. It adds all content that was cut from the game and manages to tie some "loose ends"
This is a screenshot of my Baldur's Gate1 with Tutu installed and running at 1366 x 768. (It uses the BG2 menu)

Yes, you can play a woman. And there are good romances for both men and women.
There's also a mod (i actually think it's the "Unfinished business" i pointed earlier) which adds a romance plotline for almost all characters.
