Baldur's Gate is a game enjoyed by the zerg swarm for its replayability, great characters, and great story. You should pick it up.

Speaking for the BG2 expansion, Throne of Baal, it's first rate. An excellent expansion, that completes the story of your main character.

wooow...those screens remind me of age of empires....which is a series that also rocks :)

Ok....can you play a woman, and are there...good romance options??

Yes, you can play a woman. And there are good romances for both men and women.

There's also a mod (i actually think it's the "Unfinished business" i pointed earlier) which adds a romance plotline for almost all characters. :wizard:

Actually (here comes the cavalry) the mod with new banters and romances specifically for Baldur's Gate Tutu or Trilogy (!) is the NPC Project : LINK.
I tried it and it's brilliant. Really revives the game from its only downside.

Check the site for more mods. You can find more and more there. Also the very famous (as also mentioned) Widescreen mod :D

Debate... I love them both because they take the challenge to a new level. they're like "well, you don't HAVE to do me to make it, so Imma kick your ass a bit" very challenging, but very rewarding and satisfying. Get the 4pack. Start at BG1 play all the way through the series, that's the best you dan do. And do try to use either TUTU or BGT, that just improves the experience of the first a ton.

Just be stubborn... Play through them from one end to another. Trial and Error. The story is worth it and the character evolution is just more epic when you've tried running away from Hobgoblins, dogs and xwarts.

There's only one way to find out, Cypher, and that's to play them. I hope you enjoy them, though!

just listening to the ost makes me nostalgic. makes me want to play it

but darn, its so hard core. i remember playing it till the wee hours in the morning. Its really hard and takes time getting use to, i think, since the current games are pretty easy. the spells, resting, and especially starting out. ahhhh but its so goood!

oh i only played BG2. i couldn't go backwards from 2 to BG1 :X

Can you play BG2 w/o playing BG1? I want to know as much about the game but with little spoliers.... from what I gather...

some party members... are Minsc...Viconia? I heard some romance options are tacky..... and......is it true a female PC can get pregnant??

I played the entire BG2 and expansion pack without playing BG1 and loved every moment of it. It works really well on its own and still holds up today compared to DAO and ME. BG1 I've tried to play many times, but its just too old, the graphics, gameplay etc... Just dosen't hold up.
Romances are actually really good and they (gasp) carry on through the expansion. Party members can get pregnant, Minsc is awesome! And It'll last you 60 hours minimum. Play it! Still my favorite Bioware title.

I didn't finnish BG1 before I had finnished BG2 and the expansion for 3 or 4 times. Only then did I get back to BG1, and finished it just to get one character through the whole series.

So you can skip to BG2 and start with it no problem - you don't need to know anything of the story when you start BG2.

You mean from BG2 to ToB? That yes, they do. From the modded BG1, no they don't.

and a female PC can have a kid? Or just NPC's??

I actually don't know. I know one of the NPC can have a baby child...

Where is this demo???

]Link
It includes the first dungeon and the sequence after it.

Oh and your PC's story goes through ALL the games?

Yep, it does. The game itself doesn't carry over many decisions you made (a dialogue or two which happened will carry over from BG1 to BG2, as well as some items), but generally speaking, the PC's story is linked with all three (two actually) games.

I find that....hard to believe....

How so? I mean, that's why Baldur's Gate is still better than ME series or DAO for me!

No, a female protagonist never gets pregnant during the game; nor is any such thing mentioned in Throne of Bhaal's epilogue if she romanced Anomen.

Male protagonists can romance Aerie, Jaheira, and Viconia. Females can only romance Anomen. This is in an unmodded game, of course. There is lots of custom content out there for BG2 if the official romances aren't enough.

Having played every romance except Jaheira's to at least midway into Throne of Bhaal, I can confidently state male protagonists get the more expansive romances. Jaheira's is the most complicated, Aerie and Viconia's feature the most change in your relationship with them. Based on your desires I would suggest a male character and try Aerie first.

Anomen's romance has quite a bit of development but you don't put down any picket fences with him. The most you get is marriage related talk. That said, all of them are interesting in their own way.

Edit: Fileplanet has a demo split into seven parts. Total file size is 630 megabytes. I doubt there are any viruses attached to a major site like that. You will need to sign up for a free account to download the game, however.

Don't be too certain about that. I've gotten viruses from the Apple site before while downloading RealPlayer.
