Deeper Friendships in DA2?

I love ME, ME2, and DA:O... but something kinda bugs me.  aside from the romance you can have with one or two characters, everyone else just kinda sputters out on the relationship side of things.  These are my companions and friends, yet unless I'm sexing them up they kinda stop being interesting, and they get nothing else really special going on.  All the non-romancable characters do in most games is give me backstory and talk, there's no real connection outside of the normal 'here's my backstory' -- PC comments on it -- PC does some arbitrary quest for follower -- 'I will follow you to see this through to the end'

Whereas love interests have deeper stories.  You have quests to do for them, and carefully manage how you talk to them, and then you have the lover part of the relationship which OTHER party member comment on and a bittersweet final scene before you go to your final objective.

IDK, I guess I just want more connection to the non-romancable NPCs as well.  I think for ME2 someone mentioned doing a friendship DLC or something, I thought it was a great idea, making the relationship deeper.

While I'm at it, please do not remove party banter from the game as they did with ME2... it made the characters so much more relatable to see they actually TALKED with each other and I was bringing these people together.

There might  just be something planned for more friendship-type stuff in DA2. Also, we love banter, it's our favorite part of the game to write.

Well, it does look pretty scary when you make it all baleful and red like that.

Of course we'll have friendships. Followers are our favorite part of the game.

My recommendation to the writers or scripters of this game is to make the triggers for romance more obvious. Dragon Age was certainly better than Mass Effect 1 about what started the relationship (not to mention being able to break up with the love interest), but I have still heard of people "accidentally" romancing someone.

I was playing a female Warden the other day and for whatever reason, I seemed to have started the Alistair romance without even flirting with him. I think saying "Thank you Alistair, that was very sweet" when Alistair said that he enjoyed traveling with the Warden (in the conversation after Goldanna) may have triggered it. I'm not sure how thanking him for his words = romance with him.

This is, of course, remedied just by "breaking up" with him, but I'd like for the developers make the triggers more obvious.

Some of this is in the Gameinformer article, and I'm trying not to steal their thunder. Thunder theft is a serious crime!

Yes, there are some things we get to do now which will make the intent of a paraphrase clearer, which is nice. Like Mary suggests, the GameInformer article will explain this. Thunder a-plenty to be had, there.

Maybe it was a Renegade thing, I don't know.
