Before Duncan died and i mean right before he killed that ogre

he called his griffon to fly to lothering to shave his beard, put it on a ziplock, and then he told his child to glue it on their face so that the child may carry on the glory of the beard, then he returns to ostagar and right when his griffon was about to land his griffon flew into a glass window and fell to the ground leaving Duncan injured and when he gets back up to ask the king if he has some tylenol to relieve him of his pain from his injury he got killed by a hurlock vanguard

sad sad story, if only duncan carried some tylenol to relieve his pain he would lived to see another day with his awesome beard...

*RIP DUNCAN*

This seems more appropriate.

It really depends on when the game is set, if the game starts before Lothering is destroyed there may be a small chance however if the game is set after Lothering is destroyed it would really depend how long after Lothering is destroyed and how long Duncan has before he succumbs to the taint, but if this was the case and we do get to see Duncan would you really want to?

If we see Duncan after Lothering is destroyed it would only mean one thing, he fled the battle at Ostagar (We diddnt exactly see him die did we?) and used the news of his death to escape his duty as a Grey Warden.

This is pure speculation and very likely not to be the case as it wouldnt carry the same emotional impact seeing Duncan again (and learning he fled like a coward) since you play a totally different character, one who probably doesnt even know who Duncan is.

Duncan may have died, but the beard lives on!

It's always possible that Duncan and The Warden do some Grey Wardening off camera before Ostagar. That would make for a great DA:O DLC, but its a possible cameo source for DA2.

I first misread this as

Duncan after death: May the face be with you Hawke.

Quoted from David Gaider March 2010 in an old forum thread about Awakenings:

Duncan is dead. If he appears again, it would have to be in a story that takes place prior to Origins, if anything.

Wouldn't it be funny if -- though Duncan is dead by the end of the Origins time-line, as he said -- that because you didn't see his body, they could say that he in fact survived, for a little while. Long enough to lose his weapons (Return to Ostagar DLC) and, wounded, track the last of the wardens; which, incidentally, might bring him to Lothering. Maybe even around the time of the Darkspawn attack. Maybe in time to meet Hawke, when they are forced to make their daring escape together! After their harrowing flight from Lothering during DA2's intro chapter, Duncan, after spouting some wise and powerful knowledge straight from the beard, would then be killed off in a heroic sacrifice to bring tears to all beardless faces, and thus fulfilling Mr. Gaider's prophecy quoted above. And with seeing his body and getting a bit of closure this time!!

We all use the no-body-means-not-dead rule, as it's usually correct if a character is popular enough.

...Okay, you can now proceed to ripping apart my post and spoiling my hopes and dreams :'(

That would probably be difficult, considering he's dead.

Though the suggestion wasn't meant to be serious, without actually seeing him die the only way we know that he is dead is because David Gaider said he was. Meaning, he didn't say when  he died. ;)  Mind you, it's just a twisting of words in one last effort to have fun with the memory of Duncan. He was an exceptionally likeable character.

Edit: Oops, didn't consider until now that maybe your post was directed towards the OP. I will leave my response though, as it remains true. ^_^

I am so convinced that Duncan is the Architect. Doing the same as he did when he was alive only with the darkspawn. Only his beard was not powerful enough to make it into the darkspawn afterlife.

We never saw Duncan die, we never found his body, only the weapons that he let the ogre's chest borrow. Besides, that hurlock alpha was swinging that axe at his beard. He gets super pissed, which incinerates every darkspawn there (except for the ogre, because it was too big) which is why we don't see any darkspawn bodies in Return to Ostagar. That would be why there's that big flash of white. Look, evidence!

I wish he was still alive, he was a great character. To be honest (on my first play-through) I didn't expect him to die.

You didn't expect the Obi-Wan wise old mentor with Beard of Awesome + 9000 to die?

...maybe TVTropes and much fiction has jaded me, but I looked at Duncan and went, "Dude, you're awesome and your beard is epic, but you're gonna die so I won't get too attached."

It would be be totally awesome to see a Hurlock Alpha carrying around his head as a trophy when they attack Lothering.

:o

...

That would just be incredibly mean of the devs to do to us, also it would make me cry and soil myself at the same time. Yes, Duncan's beard is epic; but anything carrying around the severed head upon which that beard is adorned is not something I want to mess with

The beard will be gone. No Darkspawn could ever possibly capture the beard.

maybe the game should have a flash back where Duncan's involved, before ostagar. like him and the warden passing through before getting to ostagar.
