I hope they let you flirt and pursue a romance with anyone, but those who you can't romance will simply reject you. It would be interesting to have party members hook up with each other, too, instead of everyone just being around to only ever want you, or be chaste. Two party members who are in a relationship, that you can choose to try and break up to move in on or something would be interesting and new.

I think that inter-party relationships should only happen either among non-romanceable characters, or if the player pushes the two people into a relationship.

Also, flirt with anyone? So Hawke can flirt with the end boss, but be terribly sad when it doesn't return Hawke's affections? :crying:

Morrigan and Alistair romance would've been silly.

Well they could obviously not allow it where it doesn't make sense. "Morristair" does (and should) only exist in the minds of fanfic writers.
But I always liked the idea of Alistair + Leliana. When Alistair has his dialogue moment where he asks you for your opinions on the other companions, what he has to say about Leliana is nice and a little sweet.
I could also see Zevran + Leliana or even Zevran + Morrigan (not that I would allow the latter. Hands off, loverboy, she's taken!).

No, I meant flirt with any party member. For example, in DAO, you couldn't try to romance Sten, or Wynn (maybe your Warden was into GMILFs? lol), or Ohgren. You couldn't try to romance Alistair if you were male, or Morrigan if female. Sure, all those characters either weren't interested, or not that sexual orientation, but I think it would add depth, realism, and an added feeling of choice to try and flirt with a straight female party member, if you're a lesbian, and to be told they aren't interested, and strictly straight. Or to have someone say they think they're too old for you, or simply just not interested in romance with you or at all. People try to start up relationships with someone not interested, not that orientation, or already in a relationship all the time. I don't find it to be a far fetched idea.

I find it very artificial and lacking immersion that anyone and everyone seems to exist for your main character to have his or her way with, and nobody else. That the characters have no initiative of their own, etc. Potential ove triangles without you being the center would be interesting and new too, IMO. It's not like all of this would be required anyway, but it would add reasonable choice, I think. In ME2, for example, you could try and romance Samara, even press the romance after her rejecting it, and she'd react in different ways, but you could never actually romance her. You could even choose to be interested in a real relationship where you're sad about the rejection, or ask her for casual sex and be whatever about it. It added a lot to the game, though, I felt.

Don't forget Wynnestair!  The way that woman flirts with Alistair in Return to Ostagar, my warden who was romancing him wanted to turn around and clock her with her own staff.  That said, I love Wynne =)

Heh I disagree.. Zevran showed a lot of initiative in DA:O :)) If you wouldn't initiate any romance dialogue but the like meter was high enough (over 70 I think?), Zevran would come to you and offer a romantic night ^^

It gets better in the second game, though I agree that the wheel in the first game leaves a lot to be desired. Often you'd get several options to choose from only for all of them to result in the same dialogue choice.

Anyways I'm pretty sure there will be romances in DA2. It would seem weird for them not to be included.

Doesn't really have anything to do with the wheel though does it, DAO did the same thing many options give the same result, or do you mean your character saying the same no matter what choice? Don't remember that happening a lot, and never in ME2

I got through the game romancing Isabella and Anders. When it came to Sebastian, I was like, **** You! Anders isn't gonna be executed by me. In the end, I was with Anders though.
