Yeah, let's use names that were already used in the first game! How about Amell, or Cousland? Those were cool.
I hope you realize I was being sarcastic.
And Mal'Gosh is a stupid name. I dislike gratutitous apostrophes myself.

That does not sound Filipino.
Also, I like the last name Gaider. It rhymes to Kikaider.

Hawke's not a bad name in itself, but I'm having some trouble thinking of first names that sound good with it.
Swooping Hawke.

Hawke works well because it's simple and easily pronounced.

1) No matter what you name something, because the only only bar to evaluate it is personal preference everyone will immediately hate it.
2) Eventually, once they begin to associate that name with the thing, they won't be able to imagine what else it could possibly have been called.
Thank God you're not changing it.
Nobody gets in the way of Mike Hawke. NOBODY.

Exactly.
Would be a cool easter egg if there was a codex book with that title.
I like the name Hawke.

Heath Ledger as The Joker. Everyone complained about it before hand but afterwards everyone thought he did the best job that possibly could be done. Same idea with this name I think.
I bet half of those people were saying it because he died.

Granted I don't know all the last names in Thedas.
To me, 'Hawke' is like calling the protaganist 'Wolf' or 'Maverick'...a tough guy kinda name (and...granted...one of the things that made me subconsciously worried you could only *be* a guy, similar to ME's Shep).
I do believe that it's probably easier to pull in new players with some sort of cool bird-of-prey name than an unfamiliar bunch of syllables, but it makes me curious if the name was pitched by the designers as their first choice or if the publishers pushed it for marketing reasons.
I'll refrain from picking a 'better' last name. I don't hate it. I just wonder about why it was chosen.

But Hawke, is just... just... it screams of the warcraft 'Nelfdk', or 'Huumannmage' mentality.
I R Kill3r Hawke. Thats all I think of when I see this terrible name.
The name will certainly get all the kids on board.

That may be true in most situations but seriously, "Hawke?" How much more generic can you get? As far as being "personal"....your absolutely right. So why not let the person playing name the character? Yeah, ok, so we forego being able to hear our name in the actual game. I can live with that. Im sure most others can as well. Did you get this much flack for Shephard? For some reason, I doubt it. Shephard fits on a lot of different levels. "Hawke" just sounds so...cliche

Shepard is an excellent choice for a name, there is nothing to hate about that name.
Hawke implies a lot of things, and in fact it implies what a character would be like.
Human rogue tough-guy, I can think of nothing else. I certainly couldnt play a mage called Hawke.
Its a TERRIBLE choice.

XD I've seen that comic before, but it just made my day. If it wasn't for the fact that James Cameron would sue BioWare up the wazoo, I'd like to see a planet suspiciously similar to Pandora, filled with self-righteous blue people, that I can summarily carpet-bomb in ME3.
