Mass Effect. Dragon age was alright. It seems like Bioware knows Mass Effect is the more popular franchise since they're taking the signature approach to full voice and cinematic dialogue. :P

But even with that, Mass Effect. It's a classic.

Mass Effect to me is the better series, but it's rather unfair to compare 2 games to just one.

I don't lie both. I am always completely honest when talking about them.

Since Mass Effect isn't a reimagining of the tired Tolkien mythos, I'm going to go with that. Hell, The best reimagining of the Tolkien mythos, in my opinion was Babylon 5, which is also a science fiction.

True, at its heart, Mass Effect isn't a drop more creative than Dragon Age, you have the warrior aliens(Turians: Klingons, Narn, Mrshaan, Kilrathi, Nitzcheans), the merchant aliens (Volus: Ferengi, the advanced diplomatic aliens (Asari: Minbari), the pariah aliens (Quarian: Shag toth, Nightsider) and the scientific aliens(Salerians:Psilons,Bynar), and there is the impending doom which secretly bides its time to strike, selectively weakening our defences (Reapers: Shadows, Antarians, Magog et al., Borg), but the freshness of space gives us much more freedom to tell a compelling story, which posses questions more more important to our time.

Hmm.. I think Mass Effect, mainly because it's sci-fi and deals with the Potential of Humanity, and What it means to be Human rather than "ANCIENT EVIL ARISES, you must Gather the other 3 being of light to quell the darkness and save all the forest creatu-blah blah blah"

this. a good fiction, imo, ultimately is like this road that takes you to a vantage point where you can better see the "real world" for what it is. ME raises all sorts of interesting questions about what it is to be human, do what needs to be done, etc. AS WELL AS being a friggin' AWESOME shooter game. you get to shoot zombie husks AND philosophize. be still my beating heart....

Mass Effect.

I like the characters (mostly) in Dragon Age but the storyline is so generic and we fight orcs with a different name and absolutely no culture or reason. In Awakenings they gave us some smart Darkspawn and all we got out of that was either orcs with the intelligence of a 9 year old and one whispering guy who's tests were immoral and inefficient.

So Mass Effect wins out for its story, feel, freshness, and combat.

I have high hopes for the Dragon Age sequel, however. Because that universe is ripe for good stories. They just need to find a fresher take on the fantasy genre that hasn't been done to death in video games for the last 20-30 years and in Dungeons and Dragons for the last 50 or so years.

Mass effect absolutely. Mass Effect just made you feel apart of it, the characters felt real and actual. Dragon age, being a great game, just didn't appeal to the character side as well as mass effect. Basicaly the character development in ME was pro, Dragon Age's was good but really Morrigan< Tali.

haha =p

Definitely Mass Effect, although I do love the Dragon Age series too.

For one thing I like the cinematic approach that Mass Effect takes. It makes Shepard feel like a much more real character than the Dragon Age PC.

Dude, that is the plot of Mass Effect. The acient evil is the reapers. And all of ME2 is spent gathering allies. To save all life. They just slapped some new paint on it.

DAO, better at the stuff I like from a BW game. But I like the ME universe more.

Hmmmmm......this is a good question.

Both games show Bioware's strength in telling a great story IMO. But I would have to give the nod to Mass Effect for better graphic presentation and a better combat system. I am interested to see how Dragon Age 2 turns out though. If Bioware paid attention to gamers likes and dislikes like they did with Mass Effect 2, then DA2 should rock.

No question, Mass Effect. I've played through ME more than two dozen times, and ME2 about six times so far. I played Dragon Age once when it came out, and put it on the shelf for six months before I played it again. I just finished the second playthrough on Dragon Age, and I am still not impressed. I recently played KOTOR and KOTOR II again, and I still love those. Dragon Age just does not resonate with me on any level. The characters are great, the squad banter is awesome, but for some reason I just don't care for it all that much.

Mass Effect 2 >> Dragon Age >>>>> Mass Effect 1

ME2 is better because of the gameplay. The humour also hit the spot, a great bunch of characters along with a lot of interesting subplots. The main plot didn't really advance. Dragon age has better conversations and with Morrigan probably the most interesting character. Gameplay was interesting but not very well balanced. ME1 gameplay was a cludgy, terribly unbalanced and the story is only average because it didn't seem original. It did introduce us to a very interesting universe though which was probably it's strength.

Mass Effect, the plot and tone are more exciting and the gameplay is brilliant.
Dragon Age is just a try hard, trying so hard to be dark and failing. Also the gameplay consists of clicking on your enemy and waiting.

Mass Effect, Dragon Age was a broken pile of scrap on the 360. I really hope Dragon Age 2 is done in a more professional manner on the 360.

Well there's your problem. You need to play ME2 already! There are more characters in ME2 than DA:O btw.

And I'd say my favorite is...

You forgot Geth as Cylons.

But I'm not sure that is giving either enough credit.

Dragon Age does differ in some significant ways from the standard fantasy mythology. For instance, being set in a universe that more closely parallels medieval history (by that I mean a monotheistic religion, kingdoms being losely based on real places, the Tevinter Empire doubling for the Romans, etc). I thought that was a pretty nice touch.

Mass Effect also has original twists. It is far, far darker than Star Trek, with corporate distopia planets like Noveria and Illium along with criminal havens like Omega.  There is a lot more moral ambiguity, such as with the Krogan Genophage, the Cerberus/Alliance choice, etc.  And unlike a lot of science fiction, everything isn't an obvious stand in for real life.

No, neither are truly unique, but nothing in either genre really is. The best you can hope for is to put some interesting twists and variety in, and I think Bioware has done that with both.

Mass Effect all the way.

I agree with BattleMageMarian and javierabegazo. Mass Effect sure has a more EPIC feel & believable, realistic, and heroic characters .

I have always been into Science Fiction more than fantasy.

I had written part of a Scifi book but never finished it. ME has inspired me again to finish my book and get it published.

Unfair comparison comparing two games to one.
Mass Effect series is a full game ahead of Dragon Age.
I reserve judgement for after Dragon Age 2 but I do enjoy both.

Personally I thought Dragon age was pretty mediocre at best. The Dark Spawn made little to no sense what so ever, they're evil and they do evil for evil's sake, with no rhythm or reason, they are just Evil. So I have to become a super hero and go kill them, Whoopty ****ing do. I thought the game would have been better if they where all removed completely. Not to mention I pretty much hated or was bored to death by every character in the game. Even my own character, Apparently he was a mute for what ever god awful reason. I also hated how the class system was trying to be as close to D&D as possible but coming now where near good enough. If I wanted a D&D clone I would just go play D&D. The MMO Style game play would have been great if it was actually an MMO, it just felt lazy on a console. Personally I thought FF12 did a better job with that type of system. On top of that after playing it once, I had basically zero desire to play it again and it will probably just collect dust on the shelf.

of course...this did get asked on the ME forum. would be interesting to see if over in the DAO forum you got the same response.

I realize most people responding have played both, but as were hanging out in ME land and not DA land.... well, you gotta figure the answer is likely ME.

Pretty much this...

Can't really bring myself to create another DA char, but I just started a new ME1+ME2 playthrough, and probably there'll be another one after that...

I played DA first and loved it, didn't get ME for a long time because I figured it couldn't trump DA. But it does.

It's already been asked on the DAO forums and the majority answered DAO.

As for myself, they're different games.  Gameplay is different, atmosphere is different....  My favorite of the two will be whichever one I'm playing at the time.  I like both equally.
