Will DA2 occur parallel to DA: O, or will it be several years after it?

If it's happening at the same time, than this could mean some huge differences, like for example:

Random encounters with former party members (as they travel to wherever it is they're heading off to)

Whether or not the wierd witch is truly Morrigan's child (unless Old God-children age differently, there could be no possible way that the white haired woman in the artwork is Morrigans child)

And even whether or not there are Disciples, as well as appearences from the Architect (it's never really mentioned how recently the darkspawn were able to gain sentience)

the story is supposed to take place over 10 years, however, the gameinformer article states that your DA:O save will be imported and you will see some events that transpired in origins from a different perspective.

Overall, i think the overlap in timeframe between the games will be minimal. Not basing that on anything, just a guess

Dragon Age 2 is a 10 year plan that seems to start at Lothering. So it seems half of DA2 will run alongside Origins and Awakening, while the second half will move the time-line 5ish years past Awakening.

We do not know when the game begins.

Only that in DAO when your warden was fighting darkspawn Hawke was in lothering.

No, I believe he was actually running away.
