Only because it is a starting companion it doesn't mean that he can't be mysterious or whatever.
I also think i am a little sick of those characters that look up to the maincharacter. There are just to many of them. I want characters that acknowledge the skill of the maincharacter but don't have to buckle before him. Their can be more than one hero, just think about lord of the rings where every one of the companionship is a hero in his own regard. They are all equals in some ways. In bioware games you just get glorified from your companions. Even sten felt a like someone inferior to the maincharacter.

As for an original start companion? mmh it was surely already done in some stories but how about a character that is in a similar situation as the main character. He could have a kind of mirror function to the main character in the way that he shows him how he could have developed. Of course he can't have the minion mindset he would be as selfconfident as the main character with his own opinion.

- A female elf (rogue, love interest)

- A rival (as the others above mentioned. And you know what would be REALLY interesting? If they could also be an LI)

- A relative
- A pet
- A character from the first game
- A female mage
- A female WARRIOR! (Mhairi was cool for the short amount of time she lasted)

More DETAIL! NOT GOOD ENOugh SORRY! EXPLAIN BETTER! Posted Image

Okay, I'll give the details in my next post. :)

Thanks I'm monitoring this one on my own. I want bioware to see what people want in detail. It gives good advice and shows them we are really thinking about these types of characters. They may not check it, but we are showing them we really do care and would like this. Detail is Key!Posted Image

How about finding yourself the slave of someone and having to do their bidding for the early part of the game? I mean, it's what you do anyway, you run up to people and ask them what they want from you all the time, but not having a choice and not being able to get a word in edgewise would be fun. Especially if you could somehow reverse the situation for the rest of the game.

I like a companion who gets to hav an opinion, but no way of doing anything about it.

That said, KOTOR at least starts out... or rather continues with Bastila nominally in charge of stuff once you've gotten her back. JE has you starting as a pupil and taking orders from your master, though he's admittedly not a proper companion, though he does fight beside you... once IIRC.

I want a warrior that came with Hawke to Kirkwall.
He was a soldier at the battle of Ostagar, believing that Feralden was hopless he decided that it would be best to move north to warn other nations of the threat. During the trip he has befriended Hawke and will be one of the first or The first companion he has.
Personality-
-Lets remeber that this warrior who shall go by the name of Josh(very feraldeney if you ask me I have always liked that name) has survived Ostagar but only after fighting within an inch of his life and watching his friends get slaughtered so he shall be very regretfull and a little bit unstable.
-Yet he his faithfull and trusts Hawke and will stick with him no matter what believeing he can redeem himself by serving a greater good.
-He is very untrustworthy to others.
Combat-
He is a straight up sword and shield warrior and a good tank.
He has a special ability that is activated if everyone but Hawke and Josh is dead he and Hawke will fight somewhere along the line of this.www.youtube.com/watch(after all the game does say you will fight like a sparten)
Other-
-He is a romance option for female Hawkes
-Has a slight distrust for mages

There I believe this is an adequate character what do you think?

I love this idea, for femhawkes he could be the kind of man who is very protective and for malehawkes he would be a bro.

You know, as much as this idea is decent, it just sounds like the usual. I don't want a character specifically like that.

I'd really love a character that is, for all intents and purposes, evil. Deferring to the Ozai-type I described earlier, perhaps it would be something like this.

---------

Born and raised by a noble family, he was trained as a warrior from the moment he took his first steps, it was all about martial training; harsh regime combined with the politics that came with being a high-standing Bann or Teyrn's son, from the beginning he became interested in politics.

At first, he was a bit naive when it came to politics; he didn't understand why you had to be all formal, and delegate, despite the obvious hate you garnered for a certain teyrn or Bann, or other nobleman of high-standing; it was always a belief that you should take something ruthlessly when you could, however you could; crush the opposition infinitely over, and make sure everyone knows who the true Teyrn or Bann became, but rule with fairly decent fist, but he learned over the years that politics was not all it seemed. Still, he held no love for the sport, but still had many ambitions to one day rule his own country, whether it be by quiet, backroom politics, or force.

Personality: Ruthless but cunning, he looks beyond the scope of short-term and always thinks about long-term goals; at first, he builds the short term, then slowly increases it into long-term, often hard-fought, and worthy goals. In battle, he is a force to be reckoned with, his strengths lying with his sheer brutal fighting strength.

Many times, no one knows who's side he is on; often, he plays mind-games with those who think they are allied with, but really, no one knows who's side he really IS on, other than his own; it is a mystery that will need to be addressed, but if left unchecked, could mean vast consequences in the future.

Possiblility to be (eventually) hardened, as the case with Leliana and Alistair, only instead of a positive outcome, the outcome with his personal quest is very much negative.

Possible romance with Female Hawke, -if- you can get him to actually start liking her as more than just a 'ends to a means.' as he sees it.

Race: I would have to say Human; Elvenhan would work only if he was one of the Noble Elve's born in..Seheron? I think Sten mentions at one point that Elves do have power in Qunari lands, and that could also mean he could be one of them, which could be very interesting, but for now, I would have to say Human.

Obviously, he would be a Warrior, with a specialization in...I don't know, really. Not Reaver; Berserker might fit, but again, I don't know.

-------

Something like that would be interesting to see, and not just something like that for females to be romancable, but someone equally interesting, but not -extremely- good, or -extremely- evil or stupid evil, both ways. But those are my 2 cents.

Trying to create something before going to bed.

Let's use the stereotypical mage prodigy character:

- Extremely curious

- Is a study maniac

- Has a great understanding of magic and thus powerful

- Lacks a empathy (but could develop some)

- is rather innocent to his surroundings

- is also very chaotic in nature

- loses focus when involved in conversations

- maybe some autistic traits

pretty standart, now the twist:

- he has his own dream/goal although he wanders with the main character it isnt really his drive to save the world or whatever. He maybe wants to recover old knowledge or something like that. Or find a new type of magic. The maincharacter provides him with better chances to do that so he follows him. Of course he bonds with the maincharacter later and his drive will change a little.

(the gist, dont make it a character that wants to save the world because he is needed to do so he does it for other reasons)

- give him a hobby beside magic study, maybe music

- his weakness would be his innocence to matters outside of his studies

- he doesnt really understand humour and take things to literally

ok imaginitive fuel ran out feel free to alterate, add or criticise i am really tired right now so good night

On that regard i dont need 10 companions. I'd rather have 6 with a lot of personality. I'm also willing to sacrifice my ability to have choice over one or two of my companion slots in order to make the companions integration in the main story more balanced

Hear, hear. Oghren, Shale, Sten, and Dog were all essentially dead weight for me because I already had a tank I liked (Alistair), and I would rather use the rest of my precious few group slots for DPS, specifically Morrigan and one other--Wynne if I need a healer or Zev or Lel if I need dps.

Y'know, Shale, Sten and Oghren are pretty good at the whole DPS thing too... Dog can be pretty good as well.

*First character*

- A female elf (rogue, love interest)

Character: I could picture a blonde haired elf girl who is physically in her mid-twenties with a personality that is a mix of the feistiness of Shianni and the sweetness of Leliana. Due to her origins in an Alienage she does not like talking about elves or humans or society in general. When it comes to the subject of races and society, her fiesty side comes out, but on the subject of adventure and freedom she is happy and sweet-natured.

Combat:Her combat would be very similar in style to Zevran from DAO, except that she wouldn't be an assassin, and she wouldn't rely on "dirty tricks" as much, instead she would specialize in archery and dueling. She is a perfect mix of speed and grace.

Background: She would be an elf who originally hailed from an Alienage, but escaped in her teenage years due to feeling mistreated and looked down upon by the rest of society. She then went on to become a bandit and adventurer. She desires freedom above all else. As a result of her harsh childhood she also shows a kind attitude toward those who live in rough/poor conditions.

Romance: She holds a grudge against humans due to being mistreated by them while she lived in an Alienage, and as such, she is one of the most difficult characters to romance. However, if maleHawke can persuade her to see that not all humans are bad then she will start to soften, and eventually see things from a more balanced perspective. If you continue to influence her on this matter while also showing interest in her life as an adventurer/bandit then this can lead to a romance.

I think there is only one logical companion and all others will fail, since Hawke is the most important person in all of Thedas all the companions should just be Hawke. The problem I found when playing as my Warden was that I was too invested in the character and my companions, I wasn't amping it up and taking it to the limit. However Hawke already comes with all sorts of amps that are up and limits that have already been taken to since he is fresh from generic fantasy hero warehouse, the problem is he is so much more important than the warden I can't imagine anyone being worthy of standing next to him. So since Hawke is superior in every way all the companions should just be Hawke, otherwise it would be a diservice to the most important man in Dragon Age.

Get on it BioWare.

*Second character*

- The rival (warrior, love interest?)

Character: An arrogant male warrior who you recruit early in the game, he has a VERY high opinion of himself and considers you nothing more than dirt. He constantly challenges your leadership and mocks you at any given chance. If your character is a goodie-two shoes he despises you, if your character is an evil bastard he is slightly warmer in manner towards you but still believes you do not do things effectively. The key comes in influencing him, whether he turns into a kind-natured man and sees the errors of his previous ways or a power-hungry, cold-hearted killer or your loyal lapdog (regardless of alignment) depends on Hawke, if you do not bother influencing him then he remains your rival. Either way, in order for him to change his opinion of you you have to draw the most out of his personality. His one weakness if that he is easily manipulated and persuaded.

Background: Like Hawke, he became a champion of his local town. His reputation was created through intimidation and social standing however (he comes from a wealthy family). Though he may seem like a jerk he does have some kindness in his heart, it's just that this can be VERY hard to discover and is buried fairly far down. He does not believe in killing without purpose, for example.

Combat: The main reason he was recruited in the first place. There is no denying this man is extremely powerful. He is a tank character who rivals Hawke in skill and power, his combat combines the power of Sten with the quickness of Leliana and Zevran, a lethal combination.

Romance: Not sure about this yet. I just think it could be interesting for there to be a romance between two who initially seem like yin and yang, different. I think there could be interesting outcomes. Not sure how it would start though. Perhaps it could be a "reward" for Femhawkes after much influencing.

Just for fun, three random ideas for characters.

A female human warrior who holds herself in a very tightly controlled state, afraid to let any weakness show for fear that she will fail in some kind of task that she is given. Though she appears very stern she has a very sensitive nature that she has tried to stifle to make herself stronger. Perhaps she failed at some kind of mission before and that drives her to do better this time. She has little patience for immaturity and incompetence. The romance would center around you getting her to open up and live life again.

A male elven rogue that specializes in archery (I know cliche, but its classic!). He is strongly distrustful of humans, having lived in the forest for his entire life. He comes across as rather prickly but it is mainly because he has had so little interaction with people (even elves) as he is a bit of a loner and is actually quite shy. He is more comfortable in the wilds and with animals (and it would make sense for him to have the ranger specialization). He is quite prejudiced and has absolutely no problem stating his dislike of humans and other races besides elves. He can be morally questionable, as he is so alike to nature that he is equal parts nurture and destroy. AKA he might rescue a child from a monster because children need raising, but leave another to die because he believes that it is nature's way to eliminate the weak.

A female human mage who was just an apprentice with little confidence in her abilities. She is competent, but she witnessed a friend fall prey to a demon and this makes her (at least in part) afraid of what her magic might do. She is very kind, almost to a fault, and can be rather naive. She is unafraid to fight when it is necessary, although she shies away from magic that causes destruction and death, seeking instead to aid allies and hamper enemies.

Well, that was fun. :)

Who wouldn't want a saucy alcoholic elf with an Irish accent? No, she wouldn't be a love interest type. She'd be the one who laughs at you if you ask about it.

Female warrior, any race. Someone for my FemHawke to pal around with. Coarse sense of humor. Very frank. Pragmatic. A good drinking buddy. Loyal. Intelligent. Gives good advice occasionally, but works better with fists. If she is unhappy with you, she'll let you know. Does not hold grudges.

Male warrior or rogue, pretty calm and balanced. Self-sufficient and good at working in teams. Subtle sense of humor. Respects Hawke as an equal, so not overly protective. In fact, he gives Hawke enough credit to let her fight her own battles unless she wants help. Tends toward private confrontation, rather than public blow-ups. If he had a Tragic Past, he's largely come to terms with it already, without Hawke's help. Does not have an attitude problem, but occasionally holds grudges.

I am intrigued by the idea of a rival, but would like to cast my vote for nothing like Bishop ever.

Honestly...I think it'd be awesome if the new Flemith incarnate would wind up being a companion, except she keeps it kind of quiet and a secret until later into the game and then everyone is like "WHAAA?!!?!" And because of how powerful she really is. I always hated how the main char in games is always a lot stronger than all of the party members. Having one around that is actually much above your abilities and serves as more of a wise guardian as opposed to an obedient friend.

A Werewolf

Personilty: Intellectual, sarcastic, Wise, a sort of Mentor to Hawke, good natured,

Role: Hawke finds him among a large settlement of Werewolves, ones that have mastered there animal like behavior (at least out side of combat) the werewolves untrusting of hawke force him to prove his worth so s/he can earn there trust (one of these quests would involve saving a baby werewolf from poachers) eventually hawke gains the trust of the werewolves and there leader (lets call him Lucien) impressed by not only your acceptance of the werewolves but your eagerness to help them fit in with a society that despises them decides to join your cause. if he survives the ending his tribe of werewolves become accepted as citizens in the cities of the Free Marches most notably Kirkhill then soon all of Thedas. they tend to get along very well with the Dalish elves but no one knows why...

class: Warrior with spec being Besereker
