Not so much a companion, but I would like a see a system created in which unused companions (that is to say, companions not in your main party) actually do something.  It simply feels odd having the same old companions who I never use sitting in camp all the time, showing up in the end as if we were friends all along, talking about journeys we never actually had.

Killing or sending them away isn't a much better solution. either.

Project Shortstack

* A grumpy, short (dwarf height) human mage who mubles to himself constantly. He lives outside of Chantry's influence, most likely in an old tower (kinda like Shale's master). Is really touchy about his height, and will call you a fool constantly. Untill he warms up anyway.

* The height factor might be used for humor, such as characters mistaking him for a dwarf, or even used for certain missions (Infiltrating a dwarf cartel under the guise of a dwarf).

* He should specialize in the darker arts of magic, such as necromancy (if implemented).

* Backstory: He used to be a mage in the Circle who deserted, taking his newborn baby daughter with him, as he wanted to rase her so she can have a real family (him) and could not see her being taken away by the Templars.
He did so, taking shelter in an old tower ruin. They lived happily by themselves, rarely venturing into the nearby town. One day however, the Templars discovered his young doughter while she was out in the town and slew her for being a maleficar (which she damn well wasn't).
This drew the poor old man nearly mad. He started digging into forbiden arts, researching necromancy and such, for a proper way to resurrect his beloved daughter (aka not as a mindless corpse).
To add an insult to injury, we'll find out that the templar who had personally slain his daughter is the woman who he had a fling with during his days at the tower, and thus the girl's mother.

Project Rebellion

* I also thought up another mage. This time a young, inexperienced, but brash and ready to prove herself young lady. The biggest troublemaker in the Circle. She just loves making the Templars' and Templar-friendly mages' lifes a living hell. She broke almost every rule of the Circle at least once (well, those that are not punishable by death that is).

* Talkative, flirty, and a very lively person when she is not in the Tower. Will give hell to any Chantry member she'll meet during her travels with you. Possible romance option for both genders.

* Has a father/daughter relationship with Shortstack since she reminds him of his own daughter at times. At other times, she drives him up the walls with some of her antics, such as constantly mentioning his height or misplacing his potions

* Don't really have anything on the backstory. Or race. She could be a human as easily as she could be an elf.

We're getting eleven you can tell from the cover art they released. The blood dripping down is the outline of eleven people. There might be more on it, but you can clearly see eleven.

I always found it annoying that your party in Origins basically consisted of the most diverse group of folks anywhere in Thedas:[*]Bastard son of King Maric and a Grey Warden
[*]Witch of the Wilds
[*]Qunari Vanguard
[*]Bard from Orlais
[*]Assassin from Antiva
[*]Golemn from Orzammar
[*]A Mage whom was resurrected by a Spirit of the Fade
[*]The husband of a Paragon-A mabari warhound
Awakening was even more crazy:
[*]Apostate Mage who isn't a Maleficar (none of the apostate mages you encounter save for Dalish keepers and of course Morrigan/Flemmeth aren't Maleficar)
[*]Female Dwarf member of the Legion of the Dead who doesn't want to die
[*]Exiled Dalish Keeper in training with anger issues
[*]The son of the biggest **** in all of Ferelden
[*]A spirit of the Fade inhabiting the decaying dead body of a Grey Warden
[*]AN OLD FAVOURITE

While I understand why party members are always so diverse and what not... call me crazy but I kind of like the idea of relatively normal people with unique perspectives or personalities.

One idea I've always liked is a simple person (I tend to think of them as Female and Elven but it really doesn't matter) whom is conscripted into the Warden's against their will along with a  close friend or sibling of some sorts; and during the Joining her friend/sibling dies while she survives. The idea is that they would abhor the Warden's and view them as a crazy cult and run away from them.

I think it'd be interesting to really explore the Warden's from an outside perspective, since so much of DA is focused on how the Warden's are the "heroes" and that they just do what needs to be done.  I think it'd be quite easy to paint them as the villains, going so far as to establish them as a cult. (Especially when you consider their secretive Joining ritual and zealous hatred against the Darkspawn)

I wanna see a Generic Half-Elven Dual-class Ranger.

Whats the other half you ask.

Also ranger.

Now I know what your thinking, That's twice the maximum amount of ranger  the human body can hold.

But its okay he/she's only only half human.

Now I know what your thinking Dear Lord, it's four times now! He's multiplying!

Well you'll have  to excuse Red Mage. He has his good days and his bad.

Female version of Sten who is frustrated by her nations inability to develop beyond a 'mans' world.

Elven who is highly racist against his / her own kind and believes they deserve all the prejudice and suffering they get. (Only available to recruit if you're a bad, bad, very bad character)

A Baby Griffon.

Finally something that I have been crying out for in a fantasy / sword rpg, a soldier who doesn't have some intricate backstory or higher purpose in the game. Just someone who want's to do the right thing, a soldier that grew up from humble beginnings and through hard work and dedication became a good fighter and fights for what is good and right. Sounds bland, but I really got my hopes up with Mhairi and had them extinguished. Why does every character have to have some really hard up brining, or be born royal blood, where are the everyday honest people who have risen to higher abilities through their own sweat and blood? Apparently they don't exist, and I think they should. End rant.

I'd love to get to know the Qunari more, and perhaps a Dwarven mage. I know that it's supposed to be impossible, but Dragon Age strongly hints that it may not be absolutely true.

Trying to create something before going to bed.

Let's use the stereotypical mage prodigy character:

- Extremely curious
- Is a study maniac
- Has a great understanding of magic and thus powerful
- Lacks a empathy (but could develop some)
- is rather innocent to his surroundings
- is also very chaotic in nature
- loses focus when involved in conversations
- maybe some autistic traits

pretty standart, now the twist:

- he has his own dream/goal although he wanders with the main character it isnt really his drive to save the world or whatever. He maybe wants to recover old knowledge or something like that. Or find a new type of magic. The maincharacter provides him with better chances to do that so he follows him. Of course he bonds with the maincharacter later and his drive will change a little.
(the gist, dont make it a character that wants to save the world because he is needed to do so he does it for other reasons)
- give him a hobby beside magic study, maybe music
- his weakness would be his innocence to matters outside of his studies
- he doesnt really understand humour and take things to literally
ok imaginitive fuel ran out feel free to alterate, add or criticise i am really tired right now so good night

So you basically described me, but in mage form. I'm not sure I'd want a party member like this, because this is how I try to make my player characters!

A religious companion. Maybe they we're disgraced for doing something(Templar refusing to slay a Blood Mage he loved, or a Chanter who broke his/her oath, etc), but a companion who has experience being a Templar, Chanter, Brother or Sister traveling with you sharing their viewpoints on some of your choices would be interesting. I don't really consider Alistair, Leliana or Wynne religious companions they have had experiences with it and are faithful, but they aren't a seasoned Templar or a devout Sister/Brother.

Cliche Jet Li battle staff/polearm badass, but in Dalish Elf form, maybe Hawke saved his clan from something, and to honor his clan he travels with you to repay the debt. Super cliche, but I think it would be cool give him Sten's quiet/wise attitude and not Velenna's ignorance and rage, and I think he would make a good character.

Female Mage who is more puppy and sunshine like. Maybe Leliana's naiveness and Alistair's akwardness/goofiness. Make her an optimist of course, maybe a background story where she got labeled a malificarum for killing a Templar. Something out of character like that would add a lot of intrigue to her; maybe she is a Blood Mage? maybe she got it pinned on her like Anders? maybe she was protecting herself, Templar going to "have fun with her" and she gave him a fireball to the face.

Qunari are awesome. At least Sten is if they are half as awesome as Sten I would be pleased.
A dwarf like Tug. No more Oghrens please. Tug is awesome.

A talking bear companion (a shapeshifter mage that did it wrong), as you progress the bear(mage) becomes more human like slowly starting to walk on 2 legs. His motivation is to regain his human form again.

I love this idea for a character. It reminded me of NWN2 and the bear god. Only this one makes you want to know why he was learning how to do it. Oh, this is a character I would love to meet. Posted Image

I could see this happening through a surface dwarf. Whos family has been on the surfaces, but never mated with humans for like 500 to 400 years. That would make sense.

A half-dwarf Grey Warden able to transform into a werewolf. Don't ask why. I had a dream about it. It's simply cool. And besides, it would get us involved into the world of the half-dwarves as well as the one of the were creatures.

It is also true that my Dream DA2 was set in the Anderfels...

I'd also like to meet a Leonardo da Vinci kind of character, someone that is way ahead of his time but isn't taken serious. I'm not sure what class such a character could be. Maybe a rogue?

I agree seeing more of the qunari would be certainly interesting. I'm just not sure if another male qunari soldier could give more insight, maybe like someone suggested a female qunari character.
Although i'd prefer to visit some qunari town to become more insight on how their hierarchy works

Half dwarves do exist. Gaider said so. They are taller than dwarves but a bit lower than humans I think? Or was that a dream too? Anyone? ANYONE?!

Edit : From the wiki :

Dwarves have difficulty reproducing and many dwarves consider humans and
elves lesser races. For this reason, they are also against interspecies
relations. Humans and dwarves can produce half-dwarves, but this is
very rare.

They do exist.
