How about an upstart Nevarran dragon hunter. According to the dragon age wikia the official game guide says dragons are once again ravaging Nevarra and Orlais and all attempts to stop them end in disaster. One could easily find both a motivation to keep going and a reason to be with Hawke for this new dragon hunter. He/she might be driven to end the threat after his/her home was destroyed by a dragon. However he/she lacks the equipment (and possibly the training and extra manpower) to fight a dragon so he/she heads off to (location X) in search of well paying work to get the money to buy the expensive equipment and mercenaries/adventurers willing to fight a dragon. In (location x) he/she eventually meets Hawke. Along the way you might get a side quest to help him/her kill a dragon. Afterwards you may try to persuade him/her to either not risk his/her life fighting dragons or help him/her get the funding necessary to get the equipment and people to fight dragons.

Yeah, sony don't like mods either. Image IPB

Also I've though of a new character sense everyone seems to want evil and female elves.

How about an evil female elf whos dalish. She decides she doesn't like the way of life of her village and decides to leave the clan. She has a hatred for humans unlike anything other elves have seen. She would start off her skills with spirit magic. She would meet Hawke buy trying to kill him. Image IPB

A female mage with a **** you attitude whom through conversation and being the 'good' guy opens her up... hard coating/soft center... possibly has mommy issues and a shaved head... errr... wait... Image IPB

In all seriousness though, I have a char idea for each class...

Warrior:
I'd like to see an Elven warrior. Male or female... doesn't really matter...
I recall a conversation between Zev and Sten about Elves in Qunari society.... so perhaps a solider of the Qunari whom came to The Free Marshes and joins up in order to gather information about the society and then report back to his unit.  I don't mean him to be like Sten, there was no epic battle... but he is sent to spy, and due to his Elven nature is more apt to do so...
Likewise, it was mentioned before, but an Elf infected with the werewolf curse. In that case she'd be Dalish... health drops to a certain point... she transforms, increasing attack speed, damange... er, yea. Image IPB At anyrate, a Dalish female warrior.... took a patrol to trade with some shems, on the way back, her group gets attacked... quite a few die, but a few survivors, including herself, make it out alive. Later the keeper of her clan realizes she's been bitten. Learning this she leaves everything she's ever known behind to protect her child and clan.

Mage:
Someone from the Tevinter Imperium... mostly because thier views on magic are quite different. Maybe part of a mercenary group, or a slave trader... someone not trusted/liked from the start...

Rogue:
An older man who joins up to relive his glory days. A wizened old thief instead of a grizzled old vet. Perhaps grandfatherly... but not judgemental like Wynne. Just someone whom offers advice at moral crossroads or something. One of the first recruitable chars... overhearing Hawke trying to recruit someone to help him find the dragon's treasure or some other sterotypical fantasy driven quest.... Image IPB Hawke laughs him off, possibly even insulting him... the old man challenges him to a duel and kicks the **** outta Hawke, thus earning respect and  a place on the team...

I'd rather not spend the entire game wondering when (not if. When.) she's going to try to
a) bang me
B) kill me
c) turn into a dragon and eat me
d) all of the above

No you would be spending the most part of the game doing this.

Bang her
Then kill her!Image IPB

A demon/spirit possesed Mabari - would fit the animal companion slot in the party and be more interesting and talkative than the normal Mabari. At first the spirit would be angry that it's trapped in animal body but would gradually learn to accept it.

An older templar - I always liked Ser Otto you meet in the alienage and I'd like a partymember similar to him, a sort of male Wynne or it could be a lyrium affected templar - more comical Minsc like character

mage from Tevinter - mages are treated very differently in Tevinter and I would like more insight into that country

descendant of a Nevarran dragon hunter - Nevarra is a neighbour of the Free Marches that we know little about, the companion would also have interesting dragon hunter stories and skills

Orlesian Chevalier - an arrogant knight that feels he can treat lesser born badly but still likes to help them only to prove his superiority

Male Dalish Elf Mercenary

Character: A highly trained and knowledgeable character, he's quite sarcastic and cynical, and throws out a smart comment every so often. He doesn't have the attitude that most Dalish Elves have, not seeing the point of trying to regain any of the lost knowledge since it wouldn't really help them in any way. He's not racist like most elves since he's fought with many humans throughout his travels, though he despises slavery and has a deep dislike of Tevinters. He also has a slight dislike of City Elves for accepting the mistreatment punishment they get from Humans and not standing up for themselves. He's quite loyal to those he considers friends and more conscious of his actions, not accepting offers if they seem immoral  or wrong to him.

Combat: Is a duel-wielding rogue specialised in the Duelist skill. He prefers fighting in fair combat but will resort to poisons and dirty tricks if there is no other choice. Fights mainly with speed and cunning, outsmarting and outmoving his opponents before striking like a poised viper.

Background: Originally from one of the Dalish Clans in Ferelden, Zathrian's clan. However he left early when he was old enough since he saw the hopelessness of the position the Elves were in and didn't see the point of trying to regain lost knowledge and just sit around doing nothing, deciding to create his own life. Became a mercenary and has fought throughout Thedas, from Rivain to the Anderfels and the Tevinter Imperium, where he formed his hatred of the Tevinters after attacking one of the various slave camps in the nation. What he loves and sees as the most important aspect of life is the freedom to make your own decisions and choose your own life, not have it predetermined for you by someone else.

Romance: At first he's slightly flirty around FemHawke and will often compliment her beauty and strength, though not in a sexual and crude manner like Zevran or Ogrhen does. More in a polite and charming way. He at first thinks they're just flirting and joking around, but when he realises FemHawke is being serious about a relationship, he steps back for a bit. Eventually he'll confess that he's been attracted to her since they first met and it was partially why he joined the group, though he'll state his uncertainty about a serious relationship since his last one ended in a disaster that he doesn't want to talk about unless really pushed. He however, won't just jump into bed with her for a one-night fling if that's what FemHawke wishes since he isn't some man**** who just sleeps with women.

Well, that's my first character. I'll post my second idea later:D

A dwarf born in Seheron, always had to proove himself to everyone as a warrior, because of the height difference between qunary and dwarfs...extremely cocky and suceptible to critics, joins only for glory and fame

- I am also sure by viewing all the comments on romances for dao that a majority (including me of course)would love Alistair to be back.. He is a great comic relief....

He also has an even chance of being king or dead, neither of which would really leave him time to go questing, I'm afraid.

I want The Architect in my party :< He was a very interesting darkspawn and would provide a much needed "evil" presence or dark aura.

If I really think about characters I'd want, I'd want someone like Huillam D'Averc from Michael Moorcock's Runestaff books.

An artist, architect, ladies' man and for all accounts quite sickly. Is constantly coughing blood into a hanky and letting others do the fighting for him. Except for when he actually has to fight and reveals himself to be one of the deadliest swordsmen in the world and not one bit sickly.

For the purposes of a DA game, such a character (most likely human, possibly Orlesian, maybe Antivan as those tend to be cultures that value underhandedness and breed it) would join your party as a non-combatant. He'd be some kind of scholar on a subject central to a quest you're pursuing and dispense information on it and give other tips during camp conversations, but wouldn't be able to accompany you on your adventures on account of him having some kind of handicap. Being blind for example, it's a classic for supposed sages.

Until something happens. Maybe your camp gets attacked in the night, most of your companions taken down before they can even reach their weapons... you're standing almost alone. And suddenly, in a small cutscene, the frail scholar springs to life, killing one of the attackers in the same move as he takes their weapon and assumes a fighting position covering your character's back.

It's really more of a plot point than a full-fledged character, but so far, most companions are usually generally helpful. They might talk up not really wanting to help you, or play hard to get to recruit, but once in, they're in. Shaking things up simply sounds like more fun.

The Free Marches sounds like a lovely place to find the last two mating pairs of Griffins. So we get to raise two baby Griffin left alone. Hopefully one was a boy and the other a girl so we could start the return of the Griffins.

I would like to see a little brother to hawke, whom you might would have fleed with from Loatherin. A guy that kinda look's up to Hawke but also have some strong point's of view and not afried to speak his mind.
But on the otherside, also more the quiet guy that sit's behind camp and watchs as Hawke gathers more people he could as well finally step up and sigh at Hawke and say "The elf is mine.."

Beats havin' a pet around like in DA:O, and it kinda could give some interresting gametime if the little brother died.. or deciede to get married to some lass they pick up.

(I am sorry, if it's all makein' no sense or it's completly spelled wrong.. It's late her' and I'm about to head to bed. More more idea's.)

Hmm lets see here:

A former Chansid or Dalish who spent their early years learning the ways of the sword, only to find out they have magical abilities. For some reason they were brought into the circle, maybe their family/clan was slaughtered but they were found by templars or something. Even though they were taught the arcane arts they continued to try an learn the way of the sword, much to the chargin of the mages. Maybe they were able to find a kind templar or something to help train them. They could have the unique ability to use their sword like a staff, and also learn sword skills and talents.

Former Elven slave who either escaped or was set free from his/her owners. eventually had to learn how to live on the streets so they basically became a rouge. Is very distrustful at first but will eventually warm up more.

A mage or warrior who, for some odd reason, doesn't age. They have been around for a long time, since the first blight or earlier. They have many memories of many lives, but at the same time they have forgotten man many things. Kind of like the spirit in the elven ruin in DA:O but not as bad.

Maybe a former Antivan prostitute turned assassin. They could constantly flirt and tease your character, and you could respond in kinds or get embaressed or angry. Maybe offering their former "services" in order to mess with you.

A pyromaniac mage. He/she could get bonuses to their fire spells. Their solution to most problems being along the lines of " burn it or make it explode".

A former Ferelden Rebel turned Merc. They could recount old war stories and what not.

A fade spirit trapped in a appostate's body, sometime gaining control. It could be and evil or good spirit. The character would seem like they had multiple personalaties until you find out about the spirit. Maybe even have a good and evil spirit trapped in someone's body who was comotose. You could then influence which spirit has more control, kinda like in jade empire.

A sentient darkspawn like the messenger or architect, only somehow they don't spread the taint. They could a a traveling fighter who tries to help those in need.

A dwarven inventor that is always tinkering and making odd things that you could choose to use or dismiss as worthless.

I think I will stop for now since I need to eat. >__>
