Oh well, you'll remember the heavy version of british accent, well after you sit in restaurant on dinner and have listen to some old higher class lady talk all night about her last tea party.

I don't mind it normally, but the way they talked and how much higher they seemed to think themselves to be ( compared to others) just mixed in with the tone and the accent.

It's australian.
I don't know why people can't get difference between British and Aussie.

British and Australian accents are very similar, this is because Austrailia was originally a drop off for Britain's criminals, and thus their language and culture became dominant in Austrailia. The British accent faded slightly over the years, but many similarities can be drawn between the two. Both use similar expressions and slang words such as "bloody", "bloomin", "wanker", and the common "mate".

Yvonne actually dons the British accent in the Aussie film "I love you too". Trying to find a right youtube clip to show this...

A dingo actually did eat somebody's baby and that's just wrong.

It's funny how accents work, like someone else said, I can't hear the Australian accent, but I can hear the American accents in Mass Effect.

Likewise I can pick New Zealand and British very easily, but can understand how someone outside of those countries couldn't hear the difference between Australian / British / New Zealand. Like knowing twins all your life and being able to tell them apart when no-one else can.

It isn't like there haven't been other tragic animal attacks, that just became a quote =/.

Because America wasn't founded by British people who spoke English either

Australian and British accents are hugely, incredibly different. Do you have trouble telling British and South African acccents apart? How about Scottish and Irish?

Go watch some British TV (The Bill for instance) and then watch some Australian TV (i.e. Neighbours). You'll see that the difference in accent is positively enormous, ESPECIALLY when you factor in regional british accents (cockney etc).By contrast, Austraian accents are fairly uniform although tehy do vary slightly. New Zealand can be distinguished from Australian but is still quite similar, and I wouodn't expect a foreigner to be able to tell them apart without practise.

But British = Australaian?

Yeah, but we Australian's get attacked over every little reference we say or make, so when other people do it, we get defensive.
Especially when Steve Irwin is involved! :P

heh, was wondering myself. I hear that Australian accents on women are pretty similar to British, but sound manlier. She certainly sounds manly when she talks while you're using adrenaline rush - and not just because the voice is slowed down. It just has a very manly feel to it that no other character has. lol

That's clearly just matter of an opinion. I think the exact opposite, not too sure about similarities though. Australian sounds bit more relaxed and maybe ''lazier'' in a good way. :P

Man, I hate it when everyone assumes we talk like Steve Irwin. That 'broad' accent generally applies to two groups of people: country folk, and 'bogans' (lower class urban-dwellers). Most of us have an accent closer to English than anything.

You could just as easily make fun of how all of us Americans are obese, or how we invented a corndog wrapped in a chocolate chip pancake.

It's not like we haven't had a ton of dead celeberties to make fun of, especially the ones with psycho fan bases.

Glad to see someone agrees with me, on another note, only the stereotypical idiots think that way, and don't worry they're not the majority. I always loved Steve Irwin's accent, "Crikey!" love it, but again you're absolutley right.

God, will we ever get over the goddamn Gday Mate and Shrimp on the Barbie?

1. We don't eat much shrimp
2. We say G'day, get over it
3. Miranda is upper class Australian, it's easy to tell the difference if you have a brain
4. A dingo ate my baby is not funny, it's goddamn tragic, stop making fun of it.
5. English and Australian are very different if you once again have a brain, Australian is a mix of all of Great Britain that has been waned down by colloquialism over a century
6. Australian is more similar to South African and New Zealand than anything
7. Have you ever heard Naomi Watts or Nicole Kidman speak? Yeah, that's Australian.
8. Go read something and stop making the same, irritating stereotypes about Australia
9. Outback Steakhouse has nothing Australian on the menu, you don't know anything about Australia if that's your only source.

Okay, got that out of my system. Miranda is Australian. Thank you and goodnight.

Sorry, but it's really getting on my nerves, all these, "WTF IS SHE BRITISH" threads. It's one thing an Australian cannot stand, lol.
