Try to reinstall you're windows, and then reinstall the game, and check the problem.Work with a fresh windows. You have a 4.40 Ghz processor speed? On a dual core? What processor you have, you cool that processor with air or with water? You're core speed, 4.40 Ghz for a dual core, is to much, very much,no need to overclock a dual core that high because you risk to damage you're cpu, but in the first time, no need to overclock that high, you will NOT get better performance in games, only in 3d programs. Underclock that processor at 3.3Ghz and you will not lose any performance in gaming. And i think the problem of the "not responding" is because you overclocked the processor to high and is not stable when you try to enter the game.

And you're video cars is not for gaming. You have the processor overclocked to high and the video card is weak, this means the system in unstable.

As usual, anything you see from that last person, ignore it. Windows itself is the very last thing you reinstall, not the first, not at all.

Actually, when it was new, the desktop version of the 8600 GT wasn't too far from the middle of the Mainline (medium) gaming range, but ATI in particular has really raised the bar for Mainline, starting with the HD 4650 / HD 4670 pair, and continuing with the HD 5570 and the HD 5670.  nVIDIA was late with the GT 240 to answer the 4650, so they lowered prices on their Geforce 9800 GT and kept it in production longer.

They now are close to a year late with an answer for the HD 5670.

Throughout the past three years, their video drivers have often been conspicuously in conflict with both Dragon Age and Mass Effect for the 8600 and 8800 cards.  It often takes multiple attempts to get a particular system working as it should with a good Geforce video driver, and laptops are particularly problematic.  How many drivers have you tested so far?

If there is any eventual need for something as drastic as an OS overhaul, see my refutation message about not reinstalling at the drop of a hat.  The Repair Install is less destructive by far, but start from the basic audio and video drivers, go through upgrades to Dx9 and PhysX, and reinstalling the game, running multiple clean boots looking for background progarms that arre interfering, and at the very end, consider an OS repair.

You, post minimum info about you're system. Post the temp's, and tests in programs that stress you're pc. In this way nobody is gonna know what is you're problem, man. And also you don't know.

My processor is not overclockable..

RealTemp: 60-62 Degree's Celsius (keeps fluctuating)

There is really only one program on my computer that strains it and that is Garry's Mod, that is probably only because it is about a 23GB game... And most of the posts that have this kiind of problem are because of video cards..

The temp's are good, so this means that the temperature is not the problem in you're case. We eliminated what one.If you have more mods installed, uninstall them. You said you're processor is not overclockable? Ok, and i must believe that you're 4.40Ghz processor speed is default? :-))

Just a quick thought-- have you tried installing the game in compatibility mode? I think when I first installed the game on Windows 7, I ran the CD's installer both as administrator and under the "Windows XP Service Pack 2" compatibility selection, but all of the installed .exe's are running natively after installation.
