Why no one has to play CO-OP?

Co-op makes everything better. It doesn't even have to make story sense. And it doesn't have to change the single-player portion at all. Just tack on co-op. It's like magic.

How do you know it isn't good? From what I've seen  we will be getting a good game with decent graphics and at least some respect for Tolkien lore.

How do you know that? I've been in their forums, I have been following the game and seen the info: it looks like an rpg.

This game doesn't need multiplayer. Why does everyone seem to think games need multiplayer to be fun? I'd rather they worked on a good single player game .

While multiplayer isn't required, it'd be pretty easy to tack on a simple pick up and play co-op mode. (Compared to other forms of multiplayer that is)

I think the days of singleplayer/multiplayer being strictly separate components are coming to an end myself.  Look at something like Demon Souls where the multiplayer is integrated so tightly into the Single player, the online components of that game enhance it in many ways that one wouldn't expect it to.  There's something special about traveling through those desolate areas and feeling a great sense of isolation yet still feeling like you're not alone because you constantly see the ghost of other players running about in the same area.

I certainly wouldn't like them to include multiplayer components at the expense of other areas in the game, but I think it'd be interesting to see them experiment with the idea of a co-op RPG.  (In fact, it seems that this is a huge part of TOR)

Baldures gate,  Is arguably the best RPG serries ever made..

Bladures gate can be played co-op...

co-op  does nothing to effect single player or need to change the single player game..

All co-op is, some extra programing game engine side to allow muliple inputs from players and some networking code..    Even if the game limited to 4 players Co-op would be a wonderfull addition to dragon-age for those that would love to take advantage of it.   It could also be wonderfull for mod makers, that like to make mods ment for small team play.,

IT would greatly extend the mod community, and personally i think its worth the time and investment from bio-ware to tack onto a 3rd expantion, heck they could even do the entire expansion and make it ment for mulitplayer..  (basically exactly what icewind dale was).. The only question is, How hard and how much time would it take to get it done.  Only bio-ware could tell you the back end on that one.

To me this would be the best option.  those taht dont like the muliplayer style, wouldnt purchase.. those that do would.  But i will say this.  for those that played baldures gate, and never played the more muliplayer aspec'd icewind dale,  really missed out on a wonderfull story.   Sure it didnt have all the banter we loved in baldures gate.

"Monty, tell me a story, One about bears and gold!"

"shut up you blasted wizard!"

We did get a wonderfully narrated game, and a vast adventure that reminded me much of what i did as a child playing dnd with my friends.. Only the banter took place in my head this time.  Sure the game was more dungeon crawl from the single player side, But for muliple player and some freinds, the RP would of been endless..

Id gladly take a co-op version of DA-O (baldures gate 3)   And  DA-OM . (icewind dale 3)  .  I know i would play it with a few freinds, and best of all it wouldnt have a monlty sub fee and could just use your own computers and a simple IP number to link you and your  freinds up.  just like old school dnd, party leader was final answere.. so no need to change speach tree functions,  just adding muliple player code, and a new story ment for group play.  Sounds like win win to me.

You want a Co-Op rpg, play Guild Wars.

Plays just like DAO minus the pause bottom and health pots.  Requires more strategy and is a ton harder.

I hate online games with such I passion, I can't describe. They suck, because they remove the player from being the central, driving force of the story and loads of awesome to everyman bit player. There's your MMO story for you - meatshield for whatever character they've designed to be the story load. Not interested. And I don't play video-games to play with others. When I want to do that, I'd go out and play football.

I'm glad DA2 isn't co-op, there are major pluses to a single player game and I wouldn't want to lose those between DA1 and 2 (although the voiced thing is annoying - I liked Mass Effect, but in a different way than DA. I was glad Bioware was doing both styles).

However, I do wish someone would make an RPG game specifically designed to be played with 2-4 people (not MMO) so that it could keep some of the great story elements of a single player RPG, but still be social. I'm playing BGII right now with some friends and it's fun, it works, but not well. It's obvious that the multiplayer was "tacked on". The UI isn't right, things pause for other players conversations, etc, etc. It would be challenging to make, for sure, and probably not hugely profitable, but I'd like it. :P

Wow, so many dicks in here who act as if multiplayer is a nasty word. I think some people have been seriously burned by mmo's and don't seem to know about Co-op. The truth is though, multiplayer story driven RPG's are hard to pull off. It's not much fun sitting there and waiting through 20 minutes of dialogue while not being able to take part.

It be a special developer to take on the task of making a choice driven game co-op friendly. It be pretty awesome if two players could take part in the conversation. Imagine one player trying to persuade the companion Npc's to kill the bandits, while the other tries to get the npc's to leave them alone. At the end of the game you could even have one guy deciding to fall to evil and the other guy staying good, then duking it out. The potential is there, it's just Bioware aren't that great with dramatic changes and prefer to stick to what they know.

If you don't mind a non-story driven RPG with multiplayer elements try Demon's Souls. You can see players ghosts, read messages left by them, summon them to help you or invade other peoples worlds for PVP. It's good fun.

Yeah, I don't understand the hate for co-op. I do understand the hate for MMOs, though.
