I start the fight (at normal difficult) with Alistair as the tank with sword + shield, my main char with two weapons, my war-dog also the arcain mage. At the end Alistar and the mage goes down, ogre still live with 20% my mainchar kits him an the dog take the rest. Mainchar also goes down but the mabari wins. Good Dog, i like him :)

Take care about the stones the ogre throw and try to avoid them, also go an distance with 1-2 chars, the ogre cast some bad aoe to your melees... Try to keep your char with aggro from the beast almost full hp, if he is graped by the thing he goes realy fast low hp....

how do you manage an "all melee party?" ive started over a number of times with my human rouge and each time all i get is taht stupid mage that follows me around, alistair and the star of the show- my dog.

ive had no problems with the rouge, but then flanking and backstabbing does more damage witha rouge while the dog chews him to pieces the mage makes some use of himself and alistair cries like the sissy he is.

(ok not really, i just don't like him).

maybe try to toss some acid bombs at him if you have poison making (probably not) or make use of your abilities. did you upgrade your armor before entering the battle or are you waddling around in a chashin robe by any chance?

(that worked for the rouge, but for a combat char in the thick of battle the chashin robe is probably not a good idea).

I did the same thing as BluesMan1956...everyone else died so i wound up kiting him around the room. He seemed to resist my stun spells. Wound up taking a REALLY long time because I was out of health and mana potions as well. Looking back, I guess I could have used more of the stun skills from the rest of the party...but at that point I was still trying to learn my Mage.

He was a real bear for me on hard. Must have died 6 or 7 times last night before I beat him. 3 warriors and 1 mage make for a cruddy party in terms of DPS I'd say. In the end, had fire weapons on, micro managed warriors, kept shield bashing/pummeling but he seemed to resist often. Mage did most of the DPS. Didn't help that I only had 3 minor health pots either.

Felt good when the guy finally went down

Best way todo this is to equip everyone with bows/crossbows mage staves. spread them out around the circlular room, fire arrows. Keep your mage using debuffs or damage spells. as the ogre chooses different targets kite with that person until it falls.

This is my recommendation as well.

The problem with high-DPS melee characters becomes apparent when you first encounter a creature like this that is just plain better at melee than you.  Your DPS goes to zero as soon as you start chugging potions or running.  Crowd control, kiting, and providing healing support for "tank" characters are all good suggestions.

I had my warrior running while everyone was flanking him. The mage kept his distance cast his stuff.

You have to use tactics to beat the bosses. Set the Tower Gaurd to use the cross bow attacks which lower armor etc and it should be over in a few mins.

Keep people using pots when needed and the move around when the ogre is going to specials.

This should probably be in spoilers. Anyway, on Normal, I beat this both as a warrior and a rogue just by using stuns and debuffs. With the rogue, I kept the Ogre under suppressive fire and used Crippling shot on every cooldown. I kept the mage using Weakness on him as well, and had Alastair shield bashing and stunning him. With my warrior, I kept stunning him, trading off with Alastair's stuns. Since the dog has a stun too, it worked pretty well. Much easier with a warrior than with an archer rogue, IMO.

DPS is important, but keeping the Ogre off-balance so he's not constantly spamming that grab and punch (which seems to be instant death) is crucial.

dps dps dps dps. On Hard mode with an all melee party, have the mage rtfa and use spells + ranged, the rest switch to a 2h and just wail on him. If he does his grab move, reload the fight. :)

Stun him...he'll drop whoever he grabbed...:P

 Well THAT would've made it easier...

Just as a little tip, try to read some of the codex entries on the bosses. I didn't read the one on the tower ogre until later, but it hints that an ogre that has grabbed and is bashing someone can be forced to drop that person if stunned. Or something to that effect.

The codex entries sometimes have little tips.

With my mage I kept him frozen with CoC, so for most of the fight he was frozen making the fight significantly easier.

With my warrior I pulled aggro with Taunt and kited. Circle Mage stayed at a distance throwing spells while Ali and Dog got whatever hits they could while chasing after the Ogre. Finished the fight with near full health on everyone.

The odd part is, on my 3rd character's run through the tower..

The Soldier, Alister, and my main character all joined in the kill animation. (As in all 3 overlapped).

It was probably a bug but it looked funky. I thought "Odd, I remember giving Alister an Axe and not a mace, then as the killing animation finished 3 people jumped off."

Try to have Alistair and the PC with shield bash and shield pummel so they have a chance to make the ogre drop each other. Your biggest damage will come from the mage, but they always die by halfway through the fight for me unless I have them running around the room to get away from the ogre and taking the occasional potshot. After that, it's very slow chipping way, You need a good number of health potions, and make sure they stay at least 75% healed, or they can't survive a particularly bad ogre attack. Whoever isn't the primary target of the ogre should attack fron the sides/ rear.

Meh..Equipping bows and such, then having the current target of the ogre run around the tower in circles, leading it, has always resulted in an ogre pincushion for me..Often, without being hit for the whole battle.

got to love when he grabs you and starts punching you
