A mabari rogue hound. He can open chests, disarm traps, use stealth, and is even more charismatic than a war hound.

A Tevinter Mage who seems like they might betray you at any moment, and just might.
An intelegent Sylvan.

An anti-social human female mage who actually has deep feelings... possiblebly even having long dark hair or a shaved head... errr... wait....
Actually, I'd like to see a Quanari, someone from the Teviner Empire... and an Elven Warrior... but that's just me...

I want an awakened darkspawn on my team. That would be awesome.
And if Loghain so much as made a cameo, I would preorder right now.

Well I do love making up characters.
So:
Insane Qunari Sorcerer (actually believes that following the Qun is a personal journey not a social obligation). Male or Female acceptable.
Flirty Surface Dwarf Female; Rogue or Warrior acceptable.
Human Male Nevarran Ranger ("No! For the last time I DON'T hunt dragons!")
A Human Rivaini Wise-woman (struggles for control against the demon that possess her).
Arrogant Tevinter Mage/Warrior Elf.
A Kal-Sharok born Dwarf Warden based in the Anderfels mobilized because of the blight.
Female Zombie Kitten shapeshifter.
Male Disgraced Orlesian Chevalier (Just another fallen to the Game).
Male Fereldan Refugee rogue.
Umm... Male Ash Warrior?
Uh... Female Elf-blooded Free March noble?
.... Those are all that come to mind.

A butch and burly ManMage that hurls fireballs, chomps on cigars, guffaws at destruction, and has an unhealthy obsession with cake (as a general philosophy).

Ah what the hell, might as wel post it here too.
Project Shortstack
* A grumpy, short (dwarf height) human mage who mubles to himself constantly. He lives outside of Chantry's influence, most likely in an old tower (kinda like Shale's master). Is really touchy about his height, and will call you a fool constantly. Untill he warms up anyway.
* The height factor might be used for humor, such as characters mistaking him for a dwarf, or even used for certain missions (Infiltrating a dwarf cartel under the guise of a dwarf).
* He should specialize in the darker arts of magic, such as necromancy (if implemented).
* Backstory: He used to be a mage in the Circle who deserted, taking his newborn baby daughter with him, as he wanted to rase her so she can have a real family (him) and could not see her being taken away by the Templars.
He did so, taking shelter in an old tower ruin. They lived happily by themselves, rarely venturing into the nearby town. One day however, the Templars discovered his young doughter while she was out in the town and slew her for being a maleficar (which she damn well wasn't).
This drew the poor old man nearly mad. He started digging into forbiden arts, researching necromancy and such, for a proper way to resurrect his beloved daughter (aka not as a mindless corpse).
To add an insult to injury, we'll find out that the templar who had personally slain his daughter is the woman who he had a fling with during his days at the tower, and thus the girl's mother.
Project Rebellion
* I also thought up another mage. This time a young, inexperienced, but brash and ready to prove herself young lady. The biggest troublemaker in the Circle. She just loves making the Templars' and Templar-friendly mages' lifes a living hell. She broke almost every rule of the Circle at least once (well, those that are not punishable by death that is).
* Talkative, flirty, and a very lively person when she is not in the Tower. Will give hell to any Chantry member she'll meet during her travels with you. Possible romance option for both genders.
* Has a father/daughter relationship with Shortstack since she reminds him of his own daughter at times. At other times, she drives him up the walls with some of her antics, such as constantly mentioning his height or misplacing his potions
* Don't really have anything on the backstory. Or race. She could be a human as easily as she could be an elf.

I always found it annoying that your party in Origins basically consisted of the most diverse group of folks anywhere in Thedas:
[*]Bastard son of King Maric and a Grey Warden
[*]Witch of the Wilds
[*]Qunari Vanguard
[*]Bard from Orlais
[*]Assassin from Antiva
[*]Golemn from Orzammar
[*]A Mage whom was resurrected by a Spirit of the Fade
[*]The husband of a Paragon-A mabari warhound
Awakening was even more crazy:
[*]Apostate Mage who isn't a Maleficar
[*]Female Dwarf member of the Legion of the Dead who doesn't want to die
[*]Exiled Dalish Keeper in training with anger issues
[*]The son of the biggest **** in all of Ferelden
[*]A spirit of the Fade inhabiting the decaying dead body of a Grey Warden
[*]AN OLD FAVOURITE
While I understand why party members are always so diverse and what not... call me crazy but I kind of like the idea of relatively normal people with unique perspectives or personalities.
One idea I've always liked is a simple person (I tend to think of them as Female and Elven but it really doesn't matter) whom is conscripted into the Warden's against their will along with a close friend or sibling of some sorts; and during the Joining her friend/sibling dies while she survives. The idea is that they would abhor the Warden's and view them as a crazy cult and run away from them.
I think it'd be interesting to really explore the Warden's from an outside perspective, since so much of DA is focused on how the Warden's are the "heroes" and that they just do what needs to be done. I think it'd be quite easy to paint them as the villains, going so far as to establish them as a cult. (Especially when you consider their secretive Joining ritual and zealous hatred against the Darkspawn)

A former general/nobleman who fought for Teyrn Loghain in the Fereldan Civil War. After Loghain's defeat, he was disgraced, stripped of his lands and titles, and exiled to the Free Marches. It's up to Hawke to help the general see the error of his ways and seek redemption by fighting for Hawke.
