I'm with Zarok on this one. I enjoy playing elves in DA's universe. I hate them in almost every other setting. It's just that with the series moving in the direction of a voiced protagonist, certain customisation features will likely have to go unless they just have a standard male/female voice for all races - which would be a bit silly. That said, I can deal with Hawke being human provided that the story is good, immersive and well-told. The species of my protagonist is secondary to a good story.
Oh and before the 'You have ME2 so you must hates DA' camp jumps in, I hate ME2. I almost wish I'd never bought it. Though I liked teh characters more than in ME1.
I can't imagine the voice of an elf would be that different from a human's voice anyway.

Y'all are a bunch of flat-ears aren't ya? How could Hawke be a true elf when he has no clan?
I bet you don't even know the story of the Dales or the history of Arlathan.
Hey watch who you're callin' a flat-ear!

Maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me for not playing DA:O in a little while but.. Elves seemed to have standard canadian / american accent with a higher pitch while the humans of Ferelden had more of a british population.

10 years of persecution no doubt capped their existence.
Dorfs on the other hand were straight up retards and reminiscent of pandas that don't screw to keep their species alive.

If they wanted to be different as they've claimed then why not have the protagonist be an Elf or something, instead dropping another Shepard out of the mold?

I don't know... elf, smelf...I want to play dragon age so badly... i wonder if it's like Oblivion (love playing the imperial, high elf, or dark elf)...
Did you even play DAO?
Serious question.

why not create a new interesting race? the smurfs or avatars? ... "the ancient blue elves awaken from their slumber of eons in the valley of dragonia... thus giving life to new life and a new age in the dragon age *insert midevile music here*"... how ever dragon age goes...Jestina wrote...
Racial tensions were one of the fun things about DA:O. Now we get to play the most boring of races...hooman Shepard Hawke.

Well, neither can I really - but they gave them different voice sets in DA:O. I just assumed from there that species-specific voices might have been a constrainign feature. Like I said in another post, there might be story reasons for Hawke being human. If so I will be fine with it. On the other hand, like you, I do seriously want non-human PC options to be in future games.

Well I'm not sure if it's quite that bad. But they are treated as second-class citizens and seen as inferior by humans.

And We had the chance to change that a bit if we played as an elf, being an elf and become the hero of Ferelden had to change some opinions out there...
As dalish you could give your race a new homeland and I personally wanted to continue that streak..
Being locked as a human makes me a bit worried, "do I have to play these racists? really?" because of how the humans treated the other races I have a bit of hatred for the humans in Thedas so that is contributing too.
It felt like I had the option to change the world a bit and now when we are locked into a human, I feel like we have lost some of that

True, I just hope we can import decisions from the last one. And hopefully we'll see other playable races in future games.

Actually as long as the origins are so poorly done as at DA:O I won't miss them. Sadly, except for the first hour of gameplay and 1-2 cameos, there wasn't much background related to your origin. They need more exclusive work on those stories and heritages. It shouldn't be just how your character looks.
