Oh, I will never forget those precious moments they cursed my character because it was an elf and then talked to me the same way they talked my human... what immersion, what different view of the world,... wow... I even could call them smelly humans! It didn't change anything, but I could...
I was under the impression that humans only treated my elf with respect because of the "Grey Warden" in front of his name. And even then some humans still talked down to him.

Yes, they "talked", but most of the times it was just the first line. The game give you no restrictions because of your heritage. As my human had some adversity when he reached the dales... the story teller hated me, but that's it. There were no merchants that sent you away. No betrayal. There was no lesser support. There was no real hostility. There was so much more potential to it, but never used... it was just the bare minimum so that they didn't crash the hole dalish background (like an disclaimer: "You are an elf, I don't like you. Now back to buisness as usual")

Multiple races are limitations for more immerse storytelling, therefore they had to go.
I think it breaks immersion when you start off in one game, in one setting, start off chains of events that have repetitions well beyond the game itself, and then seemingly as if the writers wrote themselves into a preverbal corner, Decide to expand on the world with an all new character, in an all new place, seemingly ignoring the source material, an expansion, and DLC.
Now I know what your thinking, Joker, I’m sure it will mention events from Dragon Age 1 in Dragon Age 2, after all Hawke is a refuge of the Blight, he has some knowledge, of events in the first game, the Warden and such.
Okay, I can see your point in all that, and trust me that’s the only way they could do that, logically the best we will get from DA1 is mentions and the equivalent of Easter eggs and fan service, and not closure.
Here is an example:
Morrigan and the Warden’s child, as the player if we find some semblance of closure with this it equates to just the player, there is no emotional baggage that is shown by Hawke because the child would not mean anything. To the Warden there would be some interesting issues, like if Leliana was the love interest, and they came upon Morrigan and the child, there would be some real emotional issues, there.
Flemmeth’s return, the Warden has history with her, and I can honestly say there would be a bit of a vendetta, if you tried to kill her, that is. To Hawke this would just be another bad, evil creature to fight.
There are a lot of other choices like this made in Dragon Age Origins, and Awakening. That I as a player would like to see resolved, and even if its brought up in an Dagon Age 2 I wouldn’t care about. I mean we are looking at a full on DLC/Expansion just to tie up our Warden’s over all story arch.
I mean I can honestly see why the Bioware team would go, 0.0 “Oh sh*t that was the world we crafted? With all thoughts lose ends that people will or will not have. . .Oh boy. . . F*ck it lets start form scratch in the already established world.”
I can under stand this, I’m not happy about it.
I mean you can tell that Bioware is trying as hard as they can to make Dragon Age 2 have very little to do with Dragon Age Origins.
Different art style, dialogue style, voice acted, a set Character, out side the original story on a much larger scale, lets see what else, an almost Fable looking combat style (( Yes its true I haven’t seen combat at all, but there is a screen shot going around and at first I thought it really was from Fable. ))
I guess what I’m saying, for anyone still reading, It breaks immersion when I have so many unanswered questions, that will in fact bother me as I play the game.
Now this is based purely on logical speculation, And hey I’ll eat my words when I see an expansion pack, or DLC that, in a satisfyingly way, not a OH fans are ****ing about plot holes. . . Fix it and kill of the Warden at the end, and set up for Dragon age 2.
But until them, I’m looking at Dragon Age 2 as being a reboot of the franchise, and not a true sequel.

You'll get Blücher.
In most RPGs I play an elven mage, but since they weren't that special in DA:O, I played a human mage most of the time. And since I would never play a dwarf anyway, I don't mind that you can only play a human in DA2.
But you better be able to play a mage!

Well I prefer Tolkiens Elves. But still I like playing an elf and having the option of choosing my race.

I didn't actually have a problem with the main character not having a voice. If it means less races and options then I'd prefer they don't bother with voice-acting for the main character.

Well, others complained very loudly about that and the result is the restriction to a human hero with voice.

And now they're complaining that we're complaining. I mean the first one was a good game. I don't mind some changes, but it seems like they're going in a whole new direction with this one, and taking out a lot of what made the game good. Sure I'll still play it and probably enjoy, but I wonder how it'll compare to the first game.

Well, this is a start.

I would be a lot happier playing as only a dwarf than only as a human. However, the ideal situation is one in which we all can choose. That way we all get the experience we want as well as replayability.

That's actually kind of odd and disturbing. How did you get the player as a brood mother?

This is about it. Origins was a fantastic idea, but it limited what they could do. By the nature of having such wildly different characters playing the same story, the characters themselves and their origins and histories were kind of marginalized in the effect that they could have on the game.Khayness wrote...

Again, anyone can disagree and say that they just imagined it all up and it was fine. But I think Bioware wants a bit more freedom to craft their narrative and they don't want to be held down by having to accomodate all races and backgrounds and what have you.

+10 approval
I want a character surname ''Wayne''
So I can imagine my parents killed by a Darkspawn gunman.......I mean Darkspawn emissary.
I take on the mantle by naming myself ''Dragonman'' and using Dragonbone armor and weapons.
