Multiple races are limitations for more immerse storytelling, therefore they had to go.

This is about it. Origins was a fantastic idea, but it limited what they could do. By the nature of having such wildly different characters playing the same story, the characters themselves and their origins and histories were kind of marginalized in the effect that they could have on the game.

Again, anyone can disagree and say that they just imagined it all up and it was fine. But I think Bioware wants a bit more freedom to craft their narrative and they don't want to be held down by having to accomodate all races and backgrounds and what have you.

I think there's more freedom in having the 'player' choose than have bioware choose the character for us. I'd rather play as a character I created right down to the race in dragon age than be tied down to a specific thing. And that kind of worries me because it seems a bit like they want us to play as the character they've already made. I mean we get to change to look and gender but how much are we losing? But either way I'd like them to return the option for me to 'choose myself' what race I play as in future games even if I have to put up with these restrictions for this game.

Well I prefer Tolkiens Elves. But still I like playing an elf and having the option of choosing my race.

Then you should thank all the people who complained, that the main character in DA:O didn't had a voice.

I didn't actually have a problem with the main character not having a voice. If it means less races and options then I'd prefer they don't bother with voice-acting for the main character.

I fully agree with this statement

Honestly for me it doesn't matter if I can only play as a Human or not as long as it make sense within the confines of the story and story telling. Would people be so upset if the game would play in the Qunari homelands to just be able to play as a Qunari, etc.

Voice-over or not ... hmm ... doesn't matter to me one way or the other. World of Dragon Age should be able to support multiple different game styles and not just one (oki I'll draw my line at FPS ;) ). In a way for a NEW game Bioware needs to change things otherwise people would complain that it is not innovative enough and stands still and is just a looong expansion pack then something new.

Elves are my favorite race in Origins, it is disappointing that i can't play as one in DA2. As for dwarves, you may call me a racist but i just can't stomach the idea of playing with one. Still, this does open up new possibilities in the storytelling department, time will tell if BioWare utilises them.

As for playing non-humans, there's always TES V to look forward to, though in those games i only play with khajiits. And we'll always have Origins :)

I'm with you. I like playing Elves because it's familiar yet still more exotic than playing a plain ol' human. On the other hand I have 0 desire to play a Dwarf. Maybe it's because I'm 6'4" in real life but I just hate being short, even in games. Any time I see a clip of someone's Dwarf kissing someone in the game, and the person has to kneel down...eugh. Just...massive distaste. No offense to any short people or people who like playing Dwarves, lol.

Anyway, it'd be nice to see more playable races in the future, but I don't mind playing a human.

+10 approval

I want a character surname ''Wayne''

So I can imagine my parents killed by a Darkspawn gunman.......I mean Darkspawn emissary.

I take on the mantle by naming myself ''Dragonman'' and using Dragonbone armor and weapons.

What about crabpeople?

By that logic the dragon age humans are a crime against short people.

As it was already said: They probably made it as an answer to all the "mimimi, my hero doesn't talk"-whining.

Now we have the "mimimi, my hero talks" whining. Solve one problem and another one creates itself.

The best course of action for BioWare is probably to ignore it all one way or the other and just make the game they want to make. Which is probably exactly what they're doing.

Exactly. If they can't add a new feature without taking out an old one then they shouldn't bother. We didn't need a voiced character that badly anyway. Origins worked fine without a voiced main character.

Actually, it worked better than Mass Effect.

But I guess voice-acting is shinier.

And we all know that it´s "Shiny >>> Content"

Seriously, I Posted Image my elven characters. I will miss them.
And I don't like the idea of MC being voiced either. I liked it better the way it was in Origins. They had great voice acting for everyone else but I like to imagine my own character's voice. Wait ... Hawke really won't be me. Like others have said, he is shiny and new and we will obviously like him better than anything we could make up ourselves.Posted Image

Your characters were always defined by Bioware even in Origins. Only thing you lose out on in DA2 in the freedom to choose your race. As for the voice acting you have two options mute the dialogue from the options menu or dont buy the game. Simple. Its just annoying hearing people say they cant RP their character the way they want when you never could. Bioware always sets the limits to what you're character can and can't do. You cant say "Im have no interest in becoming a Warden" but in the end you were still forced into the Wardens. Having a wheel and VO doesnt break that bit of freedom you got in DA:O

True. But humans are FREAKING UGLY. My Elf girls were so hot, I enjoyed even the boring parts simply because i could look at my PC. In DA2 I won´t be able to do so, meaning more boring parts.

Yes, every character is defined within some restriction but the previous game with races and origin stories had less restriction. Also if it's anything like mass effect's dialogue wheel then it'll have a lot of restriction on what we can say and most of the time it won't even be what we want to say and we'll have to guess what it's going to say on a couple of words that only gives us a rough idea of what we're going to say.
