Your characters were always defined by Bioware even in Origins. Only thing you lose out on in DA2 in the freedom to choose your race. As for the voice acting you have two options mute the dialogue from the options menu or dont buy the game. Simple. Its just annoying hearing people say they cant RP their character the way they want when you never could. Bioware always sets the limits to what you're character can and can't do. You cant say "Im have no interest in becoming a Warden" but in the end you were still forced into the Wardens. Having a wheel and VO doesnt break that bit of freedom you got in DA:O

True. But humans are FREAKING UGLY. My Elf girls were so hot, I enjoyed even the boring parts simply because i could look at my PC. In DA2 I won´t be able to do so, meaning more boring parts.

Really? I thought all elves look sickly and like they hadn't eaten in forever. Of course thats just my opinion.

Elves are my favorite race in Origins, it is disappointing that i can't play as one in DA2. As for dwarves, you may call me a racist but i just can't stomach the idea of playing with one. Still, this does open up new possibilities in the storytelling department, time will tell if BioWare utilises them.

Can't play as a dwarf either and usally play as an elf in games with the option - as someone else said. Seems more "fantastic" but not quite so...well, ugly as the dwarf.

Still what I really like about them in Origina is that, to me, they are part of the best origins stories: City Elf and Circle Tower and that is what makes them so compelling.

I thought I was alone in my dawrf hatred. They're horrible. I play both origins for the achivements and thats where it ended.

Heh, your signature fits perfectly for this discussion

Good to know i'm not the only anti-dwarf person here, though i think the pro-dwarf people are much more numerous.

I'd like to play as dwarves as well as elves.  I was also hoping for the option for playing as a Qunari.

If the single origin option is to help create a better story or to help reduce bugs, then I'm all for it.  I just hope that Bioware wasn't mistaken in thinking that people didn't care for playing as non-humans.  Being limited to just one origin will greatly reduce the replay of the game since you are stuck playing from the one perspective.

Since there will be no dwarf option, I hope that Bioware makes up for it by improving the beards in game.  Dwarven beards scream sexiness.

I love your enthusiasm! The Qunari is what I was hoping for as well. I was really preying for it actually. I guess I'll have to sell with good old HAwke!Posted Image

Haven't read all the previous posts so sorry if this comes repeated, but...

I envision BioWare making multiple DLC's with other characters with different races. I mean, the fact that DA2 will be centered on this human Hawke-person, doesn't mean that an expansion coudn't be focused on an elvish or dwarvish character of your own making, male or female, although likely with a fixed surname, of course...

Hey, what are you doing in this topic, Dwarf?Posted Image j/k Posted Image
One of the best things about Origins was having the freedom to be whatever race you choose to be. I guess I am sad that that has been taken away from me. I will not apologize for liking what I like .... who knows, I may even like Dragon Age 2, but I will need more information before I decide. Lots more.

Seriously even if we don't get to play as other races I'd like to see future games return with the option. Perhaps in Dragon Age 3 at least we can again play as other races. It would be rather sad if we never got this option again in the series, just saying. So I'll go along with this one, but please in future sequels give us back the option of choosing our race. It's kind of fun seeing the Dragon Age world from the perspective of different races, and I'd like to see that return.

You may not have to wait for DA 3 to play as other races. There might be DLC for DA 2 in which you can play as other races. Also, don't forget: Hawke won't be alone; he/she will have elf and dwarf party members which you can control. And their backstories might, in fact, be just as deep as any of the origins from DA:O. Just because they are not the main character, doesn't mean they will be shallow characters with no background.

Before we metaphorically kill anyone, what kind of music will you like at the funeral? I've got "My Heart Will Go On" and "Tears In Heaven."

Nah, screw that sissy music. Give me metal. Maybe 'Rune to my memory' by Amon Amarth. A viking metal band that was actually named after the alternate name for Mount Doom in The Lord of the Rings.

So I'm injected with some needle while speaking japanese and then going to a scene with beating someone else to death with a baseball bat? I'm not even really sure what was going on there.

lol I liked how you picked the survivor out of all three of them. I gave you a death scene, I did not say it would be in English and that you could follow what was going.

Well I thought the guy getting injected with the needle was going to die. Then he was killing someone else. And I'm thinking what's going here?

I give ye metaphysical death!

Sorry you gave us two choices since, choice one elves ISN'T going to happen, death it is.

Sorry to all you elf lovers, but the only way you play an elf in this game is get one into your party and make them leader and Hawke on AI.
:P

Multiple races are limitations for more immerse storytelling, therefore they had to go.

And they're a HUGE limitation for animations. Having the protagonist be a set height and build allows you to have three times as many animations in DA2 for same price as DA1. I always thought that elves and dwarves were superflous and unnecessary. All the differences and tensions arising between them could just as easily be expressed in terms of skin color and cultural differences among humans. Good riddance to a waste of resources.

Yes, let's ignore this is a roleplaying game. You newbs who support one character need to go play mass effect and call of duty.

personally i always found the city elf and human noble both from the female perspective the most complelling, and kudos to bioware for the dwarfs, it was the first time ever ive liked playing a dwarf main character in an rpg.

i will be curious to see how DA2 goes with a more limited main character, i expect the story to be alot tighter, etc

Oh come on, you say that like ME 1 and 2 were horrible games. They were amazing RPG's simply amazing. Calling the game Dragon Effect really isn't a bad thing.  And I an not a newb jerk before you say anything. I have been playing RPG's since Pool of Radiance. And I have to say Bioware makes the best RPG's in the business period. making such a overgeneralized bull **** statement without even so much as a trailer being avalible is being the newb here.
