I'm just curious considering that its been just a few months since DAO was released and yet we already have another sequel announced...
Even ME2's announcement was at least a year or more after ME1's release. So just being curious, how long has DA2 could have been in development and whether is it still in pre-production stage(story writing, concept etc etc).
Soo how long has DA2 been in developmen already? Is it still pre-production?

It's far beyond pre-production at this phase given that it's only a bit over half a year from release. In fact, I'd wager they probably are actually pretty near the end of actual development (3/4 of the way about if I were to hazard a guess).
Remember that DA:O was released 6 months after it was finished and then delayed till it could be brought to consoles. I imagine that after DA:O was finished work on DA2 began almost immediately so chances are they started serious development work on the sequel for the game before it even hit retail.

In February it's been a little less than 2 years since DA:O was finished and work on DA2 began, or so I heard a couple of months ago

It's an amazing fast turn around from Game Release to Sequel release to be sure.
More impressive is it sounds like it will use a new engine or a highly modified one. So I'd tend to agree that development was started well before DA:O hit retail. Hell they may have even worked on some parts simultaneously for story / gameplay cohesion.

Well it may be that the development began quite sometime ago... considering they can't have just started seeing that the trailer is just a month away.

Don't forget that DA:O took 5+ years to make because they needed to code the engine and create all the backstory and gameplay-mechanics that they get for free this time around.
