Am I too bold to assume the Free Marches are going to be like George R R Martins a song of Ice and Fire Free Cities (A Nation full of independent city states-sounds like a familiar concept). I know George R R Martin based his work on that of Medieval Venice and I won't be shocked if Bioware does the same. I do ponder that we'll see towns controlled by Fat Merchants and where trade is the order of the day. I mean we haven't seen the Free Marches but I wouldn't be at all surprised given how much DAO borrowed from the Song of Ice and Fire series. Anyway it would make sense theyv'e already done the gritty feudal peasant towns in DAO.

I read somewhere that A Song of Ice and Fire inspired Dragon Age.

So you could be right.

A while ago one of the writers said that Antiva was based on Venice with "towns controlled by Fat Merchants and where trade is the order of the day." But I'm not that clued into the Free Marches as such so I couldn't tell you on that end

Or they could both have been inspired by historical examples, really...
