I mean DA:O just shipped 11/2009 and a few months later we already got Awakening. And a year later we get a full blown sequel. So how do you manage to throw out so much DA stuff so fast? Do you have several teams working on the DA franchise? I hope the quality doesn't get compromised by these fast dev cycles.

they could have started work on the second game near the end of development for 1 or right after they finished. They already had all their lore built for stories and they know everything about the world and they have their tools so it would be pretty quick to start development on the sequel

This and they probably have a bigger team working on it.

Dragon Age: Origins was finished early 2009 I believe, but I think it was delayed due to stability issues on console versions. During this time a seperate team probably worked on Dragon Age: Awakening for about a year until its release, which is an appropriate timeframe for a 15 hour expansion. Since they finished Dragon Age: Origins the original team could of been working on Dragon Age 2, giving them 2 years to finish the product which is more than enough time for a large team to make a sequel in an established franchise.

What Akizora said.

They already announced 6 months ago that Dragon Age 2's graphics were vastly improved, so I'd say they started working on improving the Eclipse engine well before Dragon Age: Origins was released.

Well if they really started after DA was basically finished (3/2009) then I guess everything makes sense.

Since the developers mentioned that they were working awakening while origins was in development, they were probably doing the same for DA2. Games like Fable III and Halo Reach were said to be in development while their predecessors were in development so it's highly possible.
