When you get the option to either let the Council live or die, you also get the "Concentrate on Sovereign" option. what does that mean? What happens when you choose it?

its the same thing as "let the council die" except with nine renegade points and eight paragon points

It still means to let the council die but you just don't get the Renegade and get Paragon points instead.

in the end you they're still going to destroy him... mine as well save the council too (even though they don't use their main cannon)

By ignoring the crew of 10,000 aboard the Destiny Ascension and the dozens of geth ships that could shoot the human fleet in the ass while they focus fire on Sovereign and making the council species resent humanity for seizing political power in the galaxy? If you say so...

You must deal with the immediate threat to the Citadel (and galaxy) at the time. I'm sorry but the lives of the crew of the Destiny Ascension is fairly unimportant compared to the risk of Sovereign surviving and reactivating the Citadel relay because you decided saving the Destiny Ascension was more important than maintaining tactical advantage throughout the fight. I always feel like it was a stupid choice for Shepard to be making. The correct response should be "I'm not in charge of the fleet, but my advice is to win the battle."

Can Shepard see into the future now? The logical thing to do is focus on Soverign. Shepard would not be able to predict the outcome if the Destiney Ascension was destroyed, but focusing on Sovergin is the only way to save the galaxy.

Yes, concentrating on Sovereign is essentially like choosing to let the Council die, except you get Paragon points.

Can Shepard see into the future now?

No, but he has read the script.

My first time through I mentally stepped out of the game and thought, "They wouldn't let us lose to Sovereign by trying to save the council........

....would they?"

I'm pretty sure this happens seconds after I thought I had literally talked Saren to death, and avoided the final boss fight, so I wasn't so sure. Well played, Bioware....Well played

Imho, I find this line of thinking antagonistic to the idea of role-playing.

I was thinkin that since I was in control of the citadel, I effed up Sovereigns plan enough to let me have the upper hand and I thought I might as well keep the political structure of the galaxy intact

It's either letting 10,000 people on the destiny ascension die or letting 10,000 people in the alliance die. I'd rather lose those 10,000 soldiers by killing soveriegn, not saving ungrateful aliens.

And the immediate threat always supercedes the lives of the crew. They knew there was a chance of death when they sent in their resume.
