I'm glad we get a new story and new characters. I like to keep it fresh and new because I think that stagnation can happen very quickly. That doesn't mean we won't see some of the old characters make appearances though.

I see your point. I know this isn't Baldurs Gate, but my feeling in the BG series was that I couldn't wait to find out the next part in the series. Plus I grew to know and love the characters like Minsc/Boo, Khalid, Jaheira, because you got to know them over multiple games (aside from Jaheira of course). I feel like i've been learning about all these characters for nothing. this shouldn't be considered Dragon Age 2, it should be named something like the Free Marches and be an expansion.

I understand where you're coming from, but the naming makes sense to me as 1.)People will know the title (and this is still a Dragon Age-like game or so the developers have said so far) and 2.)This game also takes place in the period of time known as the Dragon Age. As to your other point: I also see your point but I sort off feel like all of the character relationships in DA:O came to a nice conclusion. They even did that ending video after the epilogue which tied everything together. To revist the characters as actual MAIN characters doesn't really make sense to me.

this seems like EA took the reins on DA2 for some reason. I think they could have had the DA protagonist move on to diferrent stuff.

I doubt it. EA is a business and businesses try to make money-it would have been far safer to churn out a replica of DA:O. By moving in a new direction, they're taking a slight risk of alienating those that loved the first game (as is apparent by many posts on this forum). How much is in question, however. I have a feeling a lot of the outcries will die down as they reveal more information.

Personally I'm happy our choices still get carried over, that was a pleasant suprise.

Never did Bioware say your character would transfer into a sequel when they were marketing Dragon Age, so its your own fault for jumping to that conclusion..
but they always mentioned the BG franchise which was one of the first rpg-s to allow char transfer, and DA1 came out after ME1 and around ME2 too, the conclusion was well based

Actually, they did. I can't seem to find the article because of all the newfangled DA2 articles, but they did.

to be frank, I also remember it that way, but i have no clue where and when they stated that characters will be tranferred over

So let me get this straight, we spend quite a bit of time building up our characters and getting to know the party members and their history, even romancing one of them just for it to not matter at all in DA2? What happened to the epic continuation of a story like Baldurs Gate or IWD? I feel like this is a bait and switch. I'm not even going to get started on the combat system revamp. Anyone else feel betrayed?
Personally, no. There was never any indication that our characters in Dragon Age would be in the next game, and I personally always thought it was unlikely. I am happy to move focus away from the Grey Wardens because I want to see more aspects of the world.

It was one of those more obscure gaming sites with a horrible layout.

I only remember that being said for Awakening when it came out. I was always under the impression that the story probably wouldn't continue in DA2, and I'm pretty sure this was something that fans considered "open for debate" on the forums, in any case, over the months after release.

Spiritual Successor does not mean "will have a sequel in which the player's character is carried over to continue with even more adventures".joriandrake wrote...

Like I said, it's buried now that DA2 has been announced. But nothing I can't find if I look hard enough. Give me 24 hours and all the usual equipment.

I feel like that Bioware should have stuck with the same combat system and also to be able to play as an elf and I was hoping that the Awakening Conversation System wouldn't be on Dragon Age 2.
1) PC combat will be the same consoles will be different 2) conversation will not be like Awakening.
These have been confirmed by Bioware in these forums.
And the events of DA2 hapen at the same time as DA:O and DA:A

Someone got a copy early and posted some stuff out of it (seems genuine)
