Hey guys, not sure if this really belongs in "technical support" but I figured better here than in general. ^_^
Anyway, I have a couple of questions.  I already have a copy of Dragon Age Origins for ps3 however I find the controls difficult(I'm mainly a pc gamer) and quite frankly the spiders REALLY freak me out close up. Yes I know...coward. I have a phobia..what else can I say?  :crying:
Anyway I've been thinking of switching to playing on PC for a while now. (With the better controls, features etc.) Also I can zoom far far out from any of those nasty bugs!) And seeing as I have the money to spend I'm thinking why not? So heres my questions...

Firstly, would you personally say Dragon Age Origins was a demanding game? As in..requires an expensive and powerful machine to even run it on low graphical settings.

Second...here are my specs..:pinched:

Now I know that this machine wouldn't be able to play the game on high settings...however I was wondering if it would play smoothly on low, or even medium settings? Thanks...the one thing I hate is lag. :o
Thanks. :)

you should be able to run it. you might be able to run on high settings if you have anti-aliasing off. i have the 9800gtx card and all is set to highest setting possible and it runs smooth. try high with aa off and play around from there.

I'd say you have a good chance of smooth at medium, perhaps even above.

However, you need to update your drivers. Yours are over 3 years old.

Thanks for answering. =]
Any idea on how I would particuarally go about doing that? I've tried device manager and windows update..but no drivers are found. Device manager tells me to check my laptops manufacturer but I am unable to find the product page including drivers. Sony's official website doesn't help either, the only option to search for drivers is if your product is made in the US. Mine is UK. So...any idea where I would go about finding these needed drivers? :?
My laptops model is 'Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21Z' if that helps...
Glad to know I'll be able to play the game. :)

Well since you have a nvidia card, go to nvidia.com, go to downloads, select your series card, (which would be 8) and your operating system. Click search, then it will give you the latest driver download and install. And your done.

You missed out a step. You should always uninstall the previous drivers and then reboot before installing the new ones. It's also a good idea to do a registry clean between steps, but it's not necessary and if you're not sure what you're doing could cause issues.

Currently, Sony Vaio notebooks are not supported in the nvidia drivers you get from nvidia. The newest drivers from Sony are located here towards the bottom of the page. http://support.vaio....N-FZ21Z&l=en_GB

Also, to be quite honest with you, I don't believe your notebook graphics will do well with Dragon Age. Just my opinion.

It's certainly not the peak of the 8 series cards, but it'll be able to run DA:O at a fairly nice level with no real issues, CrustyCat.

Ok. I just don't think the mobile versions are too great.

Thanks for all the replys guys. :)
It doesn't matter about the drivers, I managed to find an updated version of 'Vaio Update', so that should find and download all the drivers I need.
I only just got internet on my laptop recently, so no wonder I'm behind!
Thanks again, all I need to do now if find a store that has DA:O in stock for PC. Visited five already but no luck...guess its popular for PC. :o

Hi. =]
So in order to do that would I just go to 'Devicce Manager' followed by 'Display Adapters'  and open 'NIVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS', and then go to the 'Driver' tab and select uninstall? After that do I just reboot my machine and install the new driver? Or am I supposed to uninstall the driver somewhere else...
Because wouldn't the old driver just reinstall itself upon start up?

Thanks. Lol sorry about all the questions...this stuff confuses me.

You can go that way, or there's the slightly simpler way of going into Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and it'll be listed as nVidia graphics drivers, I think. Do that, reboot, install the new ones, and that should have it working. The old ones won't install themselves upon reboot, no.

Okay, thanks. :)
I'll try that once I get back to my laptop.
