I have a feeling that the devs have learned this from the success of more creative games like WOW, borderlands (the coolest non-realistic art style imo) and i hope this allows the game to be accessible to more people and also bring a new "look" that allows more creativity with the look of armor/weapons/atmosphere:)
Big ups to Bioware to taking a big risk in switching styles so drastically.

Give me back my dark fantasy settings.
You can go ahead and choke yourself with your artistic value on some OTHER game.

I disagree. World of Warcraft's visual style makes the extremely low-poly environments and models look far better than they have any right to look., and give the game much more longevity than its technical specifications deserve.Xondio wrote...
World of Warcraft is the most ridiculous game ever created. It looks like its made for children. Dragonage was - emphasis on WAS - an awesome game.

All we've seen is 2 screenshots that look very much similar to DA:O (just with better character animations) and some concept art which will obviously not reflect the syle of the game (look at DA:O's concept art)

you can have a more artistic look and not be "for children" as you say. Have you played Borderlands? That game most definitely doesnt scream "for children" and looks great.
All i can say is that i cant wait until gameinformer gets to my mailbox, should be exciting.
One hope i have is that this new art direction gives bioware more optons to create "cool looking" armor and weapons, one thing you gotta give to WoW (regardless of whether you like the game or not) is that a lot of the weapons and armor have "personality" and almost come alive.
While i enjoyed DAO a LOT, i did find the weapons/armor variety to be extremely bland and boring.

Borderlands sure as hell doesn't scream "serious" to me.
Bioware said Dragon Age was a dark fantasy series. So far, all the other changes have me at a "godamit, fine I'll give it a go", but if they go for a more artsy fartsy style rather than the old, photorealistic look, I won't buy the game. But I'll play it anyways.

To me what made Borderlands "not serious" as you would put it is the fact that they decided to have a specific type of humor in the game. Im sure they could have used the same art style, and take out the humor to make change things up.
On a side note, im not saying DAO2 will have the same style, was simply making an example where you dont have to reach to be "photorealistic" in order to come off as dark or bad ass.
THe same argument/uproar came out when Diablo3 was announced to be the way it is now and people screamed bloody murder.
I know this much ... there are only TWO companies i will always trust to make a great RPG and thats Blizzard and Bioware so im not too concerned regardless of the art style they choose.

(Frankly DA's massive armour's shoulder pads were pushing it)

will part of the game, around the campfire or wherever/however the story is being told, be "artistically" in the style of DA:O, the narrator and others done in the old style... while the story of Hawke and companions and all that is the "past" will be shown in a different style, that sort of stylized-dreamy-anime-Samurai Jack style of the pictures revealed thus far.
I think that would be an interesting way to take thing stylistically, and it might keep the nerd-rage down a bit.

I don't know about everyone else but I'd pick realistic armour and weapons over stupid cartoony WoW armour and weapons any day.

I prefer realism, but a little bit of stylization can be cool. But I emphasise LITTLE. I don't like it when it looks like a ridiculous cartoon, but I can't see Bioware going in that direction.

Question: were those dev confirmed to be actual DA2 screenshots or is it really just that one website?
The devs haven't said anything about them yet, Javi.
But I'd assume if they were fake, they'd of said something by now.
