Um...did anyone else see that picture of the guy jumping higher than any NBA player ever did? He's at least 5 feet off the ground. Absolutely ridiculous. BioWare are such sellouts ever since joining EA. First TOR, then ME2, now this.

Complete. F*cking. Nonsense. DA had horrible artistic direction. Every other npc looks like they are dying of Cholera or something. All characters are way out of proportion. The cut scenes are at least two generations behind Mass Effect...and I mean the first one.

I welcome an upgraded look, even if it's a bit stylized.

You don't understand what dark fantasy is, do you?  It's not supposed to be stylized, it's gritty and raw.

Every BioWare cut scene sucks because they are too **** cheap to hire actors to do it.  Every animation in BioWare games look like the people have steel rods in every limb.  Just look at another game like Heavy Rain, actors did all the animations and it looks incredible.  When someone's watching me play a BioWare game I feel almost embarassed to be showing a cut scene that looks that bad.

Can I see a picture from DA: O of someone that's about 6 feet jumping almost that exact height?

I for one welcome a new art style. A lot of people point at WoW and scream "I don't want your kiddy style" but don't realize that they can have a unique looking art style that isn't as stylized as WoW. For example, Shadow of the Colossus and Demon Souls both have very desolate environments which really grants a "feel" to the game that adds to the experience.

Art style enhances many games, off the top of my head Sly Cooper, Psychonauts, Shadow of Colossus, Demon Souls, Windwaker and Ratchet and Clank are all great games in their own right, but the art direction and style are what make those games stand out in my mind.

I don't like the new Darkspawn armour though, and the still frame of Hawke's combat animation in one of those screenshots has me a bit worried. (I don't like the idea of stylized animations at all in the DA universe. Keep it somewhat realistic there's no reason to go overboard like ya guys did with the High Dragon killing animation)

EDIT:

Note that while the High Dragon animation is a bit exaggerated, you don't actually do anything that is physically impossible.  It's just very very unlikely anyone would ever be that coordinated while wearing a full suit of plate armour.

I know dark fantasy. I have read Conan, The Witcher, and other dark fantasy titles. I also know that, as far as facial animations go, Bioware is topnotch. They have some improving to do with body animation, this is true, but the original DA is behind the times in every way: graphics, art direction, animation, etc. I welcome improvement. Bioware knows all about improving their IP's. I am personally looking forward to DA's new look.

For all you Doubting Thomases, there are eleven screenshots in the Game Informer article. They are mostly from the same battle, so I am reserving most of my judgment, but from what I have seen I like the new graphics. They are obviously not the final graphics, but in my opinion, they are a step in the right direction. I really like the faces.

Edit: Also, "dark fantasy" is pretty subjective. No one on here can make authoritative statements on what does and does not constitute dark fantasy because 1) dark fantasy is a rather nebulous category and 2) the art style of the game will not determine whether or not it is dark fantasy; that is mostly a job for the writers.

That's not nearly as high as in the picture.  In the video, he is jumping to grab the ogre, not to slice it like the character in the picture.  He also only brings his hand to its neck.  In the picture, on the other hand, his hands are well on their way to being above the head and his aim isn't to grab on, it's to hit the ogre with the sword.

The Warden jumped so high as to be above the Ogre's waist. That's about 6 feet.

Thank you for that, you get the feeling some people refuse to like them simply because they're not the same as Origins Image IPB

It's not improvement, it's drastically changing the style to coincide with TOR.  This is obviously a marketing move, not an artistic one.  With cartoony graphics (those pictures are cartoony, not stylized), more people can afford to buy the game and more people will.

Stylized realism is something totally different from TOR and DA2.  Prince of Persia from 2008 is a great example of stylized realism.

It is certainly not 6 feet.  It was hunched over, making it lower.

Dark Fantasy doesn't necessarily have to mean realistic. It's a theme and tone choice of the content and isn't necessarily tied to an art style. (Obviously the art has to suit the content, too much contrast between the two can hurt the experience)

As an aside, funny that Dragon Age's main site shows up as the second highest displayed when searching Dark Fantasy.
