How much Willpower did you end up having? Minus the 75 from the Great Maul, you would still have more than enough for Miasma and Spell Wisp.
I'm trying to determine the most effective Willpower score for an AW/BM. Preferably, Arcane Shield, Rock Armor, Miasma, Combat Magic, Shimmering Shield, Fire/Ice/Telekenetic Weapons, Haste, and perhaps Death Magic as well are probably all of the useful sustainables. Having enough mana to cast Glyph of Warding would be handy, too.

That's the cap i think for an Arcane Warrior. For some reason adding items with more resistence bonus does not help the numbers past the figures shown above.
From what I have seen in Dragon Age wiki, all of the elemental resistance caps at 75% no matter they are from item bonus or spell bonus. As Shimmering Shield automatically raise the elemental resistance to 75%, I seldom put resistance gear onto my AW. The only exception are gears with spell resistance bonus which at least allow my AW to have a chance to resist the dispel magic effect.

Alright, I'll look into it; it seems like it would work relatively well with a Blood Mage secondary spec; fire off a few spells, turn off Blood Magic and heal up.jsachun wrote...
It's very useful when fighting mobs provided that you can kill one or two at least very quickly to suck health out of. Basically your health should stay full all the way through the battle. With all the sustains on I had enough mana to cast either paralyse or petrify and also cast deathhex. I also had Misama on as well too help with lowering opponents defense so that I could hit better, but for reason the first line of spells in Entrophy seems to be not showing up on the profile after Awakening or patch 1.03. I just changed my sustains too Spell Might, Spell Shield & Spell Wisp with a Staff in my hand when it was time to cast spells and it worked fine.
I play a low mana AW/BM, though, so I can't afford to sustain spells with negative mana regeneration without countering it, and I'm already at -13 with Shimmering Shield and Haste; +17 mana/stam regen, after taking into account Spell Might as well, is only available on the consoles.

If there is any delays noticed, it has been due to having a weapon drawn, so the Dodge reports may have been in error. And I admit that this look, as well as the freedom to alter helm, gloves, and boots is quite pleasing.

Max resistence cap for Shimmering shield is raised to 85%
Must have spells:
Hand of winter: Mage's equivalent of Massacre. Cast Affilication Hex when surrounded, then cast hand of winter to see enemies fall left, right & centre. Spell Might, Spell Wisp, & Elemental Mastery increases it's effectiveness.
Attunement & Fade Shield: Increases Magic & Will as well as mana regen, and makes Arcane Shield a lot more effective.
Must watch Roots attack from all Sylvans. For some reason Armor bonus of Arcane Warrior, does nothing to stop this attack from doing massive damage. I found that Warriors & Rogues with a lot less Armor rating takes virtually neglectable damage, where as Arcane Warriors with much higher armor rating & physical resistence gets torn apart by "roots". Maybe a Bug.

Near 30 Dex helps I'm very sure. And +attack gear/spell buffs too.
Just as Liliandra mentioned. If you have extra mana, get the substained spell "Miasma" helps too.

My usual tactic is, once engaged in melee, my AW only turn on Miasma if he has some difficulty to hit things (usually the high defense boss). This can not only avoid the situation you have mentioned, but also spare some mana to cast one more spell.

Arcane Warriors are absolute overkill in Awakening. Hit Damage Cap at Level 31

Maxed out damage cap, 5000 and 7000 damage spells, how do you do all that damage with your arcane warrior? Is your normal damage just the usual 200-300 or so with spells then the 5000 damage spikes are strictly affliction hex'd spell might mana clashes? Or are you regularly doing thousands of points of damage with some spell?
