Hmm, you know what really confuses me? The way the darkspawn goes into the Fade in Awakening. Of course, the fact that dwarves can go there is also confusing and I totally emphasised with Oghren when he had the whole "wtf we're dwarves, why are we here?" conversation with me. I told him it was a game mechanic that overlooked the plot. But seriously. If the darkspawn are alien to the Fade, then how can they enter the Fade? Was it another plot hole cover-up in Awakening?



For all intents and purposes, the darkspawn seem like artificial life forms in comparison to everything else in Thedas. They're a huge anomaly that shouldn't have happened. Even Justice seemed rather confused by them. I don't think most of the conflict in the world of Thedas actually has much at all to do with the darkspawn, they seem to be a byproduct of something bigger and darker.

Maybe the Architect or the Mother changed something too the darkspawn so they can enter the Fade, its probably because they don't have a group mind anymore i dunno.

But what happens during the next Blight? Will the group-mind come back into play? Will there even be another Blight? Perhaps the darkspawn are evolving into a brand new race, without the help of the Mother or Architect (since by the end of Awakening one or both are dead). Maybe the story of the darkspawn parallels that of the other races to a degree..

I also wondered it doesn't matter if you killed the Mother and the Architect, or let the Architect go.
There are still a whole bunch of sentient Darkspawn, what could be dangerous.
Or maybe by losing there master(s) they revert to there hive mind and continue hunting Archdemons.

Nice theory, but I had an alternative one involving the Maker and the Black City.



Has anybody considered that the Maker may not be a benevolent god, rather a power hungry entity who resented the fact that the beings he created (elves, humans, dwarfs) actually used the free will that the Maker bestowed on them, to do thing in their own way, and to worship other lesser beings. So the Maker slowly grew jealous and became corrupted by his own envy and resentment long before the Tevinter mages tried to enter the Golden City, and it was the revelation and the emanation of the Maker's corruption that turned them into the first darkspawn, and the Gold City into Black City, and it was his jealousy and corruption that chained the old gods under the ground, and continues to punish them and the world through the darkspawn and the blights. And now this malevolent entity plots to reshape the world though the Chantry of Andraste (maybe, as a former god that transformed into a demon, he gains power from the blind belief of the Chantry), and the only chance to defeat him is weakening the source of his power (the Chantry) and to send a champion who possesses ancient power (the soul of an Old God maybe?) into the Fade, to finally enter and cleanse the Black City.



Sorry, I do not want to hijack your thread, but the title said 'A new theory about the DA universe", and I thought I would not offend anyone if I offered another alternative. Anyway, I enjoyed your topic starter: who knows where Mr. Gaider and the others will take us in the future.

I first thought the Old Gods where the gods Fen'Heral locked away.

But there are 8 Elven gods excluding Fen'Heral and only 7 Archdemons, and the so called Evil gods are never named so I don't know how many they have.

According to the game lore which is based on what the Chantry believes, the Maker is the creator of the world, and he was the one who cast down the Old Gods and the Tevinter Magisters long before Andraste 'rediscovered' him. Or the Maker is just a figment of the Chantry's imaginations and doesn't exist at all If he DOES exist though and is indeed the creator of the world then that greatly conflicts with the creation myth of the elves. That's not to say one version is right, heck they might both be right, somehow, or both could be totally wrong. But I am pretty sure if indeed the Maker is real that he existed before Andraste became his prophet.

Could be... But who told you that? I guess it was Andraste...

And who told Andraste that there was a Maker she could pray to?   So some prior knowledge of the Maker must have existed well before Andraste, but the worship of the Maker became pretty much extinct before Andraste was born.

She in fact DID NOT pray to the maker.. but to the mountain and the wind gods.. They didn't answer and surpirse surprise who did?

Whatever or whoever the being known as the Maker is, we cannot be sure that he is benevolent. The possibility that the 'evil' Maker and Fen'Harel from the Elven pantheon are the same being is also something that may be worthy of consideration.

There is a hint in DA:O that Andraste was not a prophetess at all so there are enough obscure spots in the lore to twist the story into whatever the think-tank at BioWare wants.

Is that fact stated somewhere in the game, or in the game lore, or in any developer posts? Or is it your deduction? I'm curious, because that would really provide fuel for theory-making (and it would not contradict my theory about the malevolent Maker).

Slightly off-topic but Malevolent Maker has a nice ring to it, it's quite fun to say outloud. Just saying. Carry on
