In origins you can have a convo with your party members at any time. In Awakening they only talk to you when they need some thing. The conversations arent as long, that and you can find random objects in Awakening and they will have some thing to say about them.

You played both but didn't notice that in Origins you could talk to your companions anywhere but in Awakening you couldn't talk to them at all unless you clicked a tree in town or they had an exclamation mark over their head at camp? Really?

I haven't finished Awakening yet, but I believe the main difference is that you can't enter a full conversation anytime you want like in DA:O. Instead you just get a line of text. I could be wrong, though.

I was not impressed that the initial talk for DA2 was of Awakenings style convo but I hope it will be mass effct style with the ability to initiate convos within any scenario, obviously not whilst battling whatever

Oh, I didn't know that was a conscious decision. I just thought it was a shortcut to get the thing out on time
