Note. I originally did this as a Blog post but nobody really reads the blogs most of the time so i thought the forum would be more appropriate for this post Posted Image

So i have been seeing much, much, much, much discontent and discomfort with the path being taken for Dragon age 2, now i understand everyone's concern and I see it as a completely new game taking place in the same world as the first. We can already tell that this game will be much different from the first and really I dont have a problem with it. I know I know people reading this are scoffing and calling me an idiot and i know that these name's used would be much worse than just idiot, but please before commenting or making a discesion on me, hear me out. Sure it is taking a different direction it is changing it is going to be much more like Mass effect and me being a massive Mass effect fanboy I think it may be a good thing. Again i understand that so many people were dissapointed in Mass effect 2 for the radical changes to the game, although I found it far superior to the first game the change's still garnered hate from the pureist's of the first game.

The same thing is happening with Dragon age 2 and I dont see that as a bad thing changing the formula to a fully voiced character, better graphics and possibly different gameplay, this is why I said earlier that it's going to be a completely different game just based in the same world, I think it's a step in the right dirrection because well a main character with no voice is just well outdated as were the graphics in the Dragon age: Origins. Now that you have heard my case and my reasoning feel free to pass judgement on this post.

Did this really require a new thread? I know we all want our own opinions to stand out (I'm guilty of this too) but seriously, people need to think about whether their post could fit into the hundreds of active posts on this subject already. Everytime a new one is started, people on both sides rehash the same arguments we've been seeing for days.

Your comments are well thought out and interesting; I just don't think you needed to start another thread to say what you wanted to say.

I am one of the so-called skeptics, however, I acknowledge that the only thing we can really do is wait and see.

I Just find it sort of ironic that the fanboys will blast the skeptics for passing judgment based on so little information, but yet will profess it's awesomeness based on the same small tidbit of info. The mods and staff reinforce this as well.

From what we've seen so far it appears they are throwing out the traditional western RPG aspects that makes Dragon Age not only the spiritual successor of BG, but one of the finest classic style RPG games ever made, and turning it into Dragon Effect simply because it didn't sell three million copies like ME2 did.

We don't need another action RPG like ME/Fallout 3/etc. We've got enough of them. We need DA2 to follow the same style as DA1. ME 1/2 were good games, great even. But Dragon Age: Origins was game of the decade for an old RPGer like myself.

I will of course hold my final opinion of the game until release but if it is Dragon Effect as I suspect now, I'm sure I won't enjoy it remotely as much as I did DA.

I've yet to see anyone go to such magnitudes on the positive end of the spectrum than people have done on the negative. I'm pretty sure not a single person has claimed the game IS an amazing game.

What some people have done is express enthusiasm. This is no worse than expressing doubts. Neither of those is the problem.

Actually, i think it was the other way around. DA sold twice as much as ME, which makes you wonder about the logic...

.

Actually, DAO sold 3.2 million copies.  Go figure.

Case in point:

angry dude proclaims that he's hulk mad and is not buying the game. Fanboys blast him(and I agree) for making a decision based on so little info, but yet profess themselves that it is a day one purchase from them. They are counterpoints to each other.

Personally, I plan on waiting till about 2-3weeks after release to see if it's worth picking up. I will lurk the forums, collect impressions and make my decision that way. I don't really trust professional reviewers or metacritic websites.

Not very many console RPG's that allow you to choose race, class, and etc. Usually these are found on MMORPG's, which I'm glad I can enjoy on my Xbox. The graphics needed more work on terrain rather than characters, the characters were adequate, but the grass and field texture was so 90's. As earlier stated, the Warden needs a voice, lest it be like Claude from GTA III as the mute. The more realistic the Warden appears the more realistic the experience, the world needs to be large and not accessible via loading screen all the time, like stages of a typical video game. The game should NOT have a final ending, you should be able to free roam the game even after it ended, otherwise what is the point of working so hard to develop your character and such for it to be a done deal, it discourages you to finish the game. I'd also like to see more specialization in each class, make the various classes of Mages and Warriors differ, give Bards their own clothes, and Rangers their own. Blood Mages their own red robes, or Arcane Warriors their own glittering and glowing armor.

I agree with you there, I am hoping that it will be an open world and not as you said like stages same with special armor, outfits, weapons etc. I play on Xbox also so i understand how you feel about that and i do wish i was still able to pick my race but im an optimist and im hoping (not saying) it will be just as good or better than the first .

Hmm, actually you got me there. I think I am one of those who have said I'll be buying it on day one.

Well I guess my lame excuse for that is that given the choice between irrationally enthusiastic about something and irrationally pessimistic, it's probably better for one's mental and emotional health to choose the former. I hereby revise my statement..."I'll probably buy this game on the day it comes out, based on what little information we have now, and depending on what else is revealed, I may pre-order as well. But so far, I have few complaints."

Nothing wrong with wanting to buy it on day one...i wish i had that enthusiasm. I was just very put off by awakening(which I pre-ordered) in addition to lack of patches over the last 9 months while they keep pumping out DLC. It doesn't paint a pretty picture in my eyes.

I feel like Bioware has been scamming me since the release of Origins, which has caused me to be skeptical, but deep inside, I am rooting for them to redeem themselves in my eyes :D

Yes and no.  No because the complaints are already everywhere.  Yes because one of the most noticeable ways to let someone know many are dissatisfied with their product is by mass spamming, as annoying as it is.  The only really more effective way is by sales being poor, which we can't really get into at the moment.

Besides, a lot of said threads are getting closed mid-discussion, which is only going to promote more threads.  Especially considering the mod in question is asking complainers to go to a nonexistant sticky thread. :pinched:
