Bioware games are not good

- If they let people discover the lore & races of a fantasy world, it's just a game in a generic setting. Also, they have no voiceovered main character.
- If they choose a protagonist to tell his story, this immediately restricts race available for players and doesn't allow them to roleplay. Also, a voiceovered main character just doesn't let people feel like (s)he's an extension of the player.
To Arcanoid, return I must. These are dark ages for gaming.

Well, yes. Ultimately people are going to **** and moan about anything, but the reason it's so prevalent on these boards is because this is a collection of people who loved the former recipe and aren't too happy they've removed some spices and added some sugar.
I'm not a hardcore RPG loyalist, and I trust Gaider when he says Hawke still has a definable personality and choices that the player choose. Everything more or less sounds better to me, with a slight worrying glance at the restrictedness of the player character being only human.

Some things are just incompatible with each other. On game one the did this, on game two they do that.
Alternating between the two styles is also less repetitive and therefore quite smart. As for stepping away from the origins of RPGs, in Baldur's Gate, didn't you play a fixed character all along(*)?
(*) yes you could choose classes as you wished there but the part of BG & BGII which was fully voiceovered was like 1%. I wouldn't want a human sounding like a dwarf nor the other way round in DA2.

Fisher & price edition: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm. It's an interesting read.

i agree, i dont like bioware games either...never once has Gaider made a story tailored directly for me with only the things i want in it, thats just bad game developing.
Seriously their games are supposed to be blankslates for me to tell my own story.
They've never done this before, but I am going to pretend they did and be outraged anyway.

Sometimes you just need to stamp everything with a "THIS IS SARCASM" label in order to have anyone comprehend anything. Even then some people will still try desperately to misinterpret things.
After some replies, I came up with the next big improvement in bulletin boards, sarcasm tags
In any case, back to the point I was originally trying to put across but apparently failed to do so, is that some design choices are mutually exclusive without one being better than the other. If bio didn't alternate at all and used the *exact same* recipe, it would become tedious and this is usually how good franchises go to deathbed.

And I am most certainly in agreement, but I don't think there's much point even stating so. People are still recovering from the hemorrhages induced by finding out that DA2 isn't going to be DA:O with a 2 stamped on the cover. I recall much of the same outrage when just about any Bioware game has been announced, and they've all pretty much turned out great.

I don't recall as much rage, but I may be wrong, a dev yesterday mentioned that in BG people apparently found that it's totally inappropriate to use a different skin color than D&D manual's suggestion. I remember bulletin boards being more optimistic but again, my memory may not serve me well, it's been a long time.
As for the purpose, the point is as good as about any other thread really, I'm just curious to see how people value differently design choices, and how it is possible to want mutually exclusive elements within the same game. Also repetition is a factor, I mean since we have already seen the "origins" of each race, what's the point of re-rolling alts for each race in the new game.

Yet the people claiming to be such hardcore RPG fans have no bloody imagination and if they can't figure out how it could be done then it's inarguably impossible and if you disagree then you're wrong and stupid and not as hardcore as them.
