I think DAO suffered mostly from a lack of music. There wasn't enough of it. A lot of themes were re-used-- most egregiously, IMO, when the high dragon theme was re-used for the archdemon. What's this? A final boss without a final boss theme? Inconceivable!
100% agree. Comes across as abit dry. When playing a fantasy game I was unashamidly self important dramatic parts, like Lord Of The Rings.

Dragon Age had it's parts, like the lemon head calling the charge at Ostigar, it felt very unified and was probably the best movie sequence in the game. Player felt apart of it, important, to something important going on.

Other parts of the game such as companion side quests didn't emotionally resonate in the slightest. Likewise with the ending. The part music used during the mage tower boss fight was great.
Another anoying thing about the music, was this peice used early in the game."Battle of Lothering Village"

This seemed like the sort of music you use when you are about half way though the game, knowing your companions well having spend hours playing, not something you use with a recently started journey, killing bears in field, baldy placed.
This is great advice, Bioware should take this if they want a 98 metacritic rating.
