Both ME2 and DA2 are examples of the evolution of the rpg. This is an outstanding change because it takes the rpg out of the small, tight fisted clamps of the PC.

Just because you can upgrade your weapons in COD doesn't make it an RPG

I've never played COD.  Currently I am playing DA2, ME2 and Demon's Souls.

I never said you did, the way I was using "you" it meant to be taken synonymously with "people"

but the fact remains that just because a game has some RPG mechanics doesn't make it an RPG

Origins was stale and boring Mass Effect had lots of action and exitement, I really dont think its such a bad thing that Dragon Age is trying to copy Mass Effect do you?

Why should a rpg copy a third person shooter? It makes no sense.

I disagree.

Well if Origins was so great then why are Bioware trying to make Dragon Age 2 like Mass Effect?

To make a cerebral, tactical game appeal to the LCD. :|

Good thing nobody's talking about doing any such thing, then.

mass effect is a shooter not a rpg

With that line of thought DAO is a beat them all because you use mainly melee weapons.

Mass Effect is a RPG with combat focusing on ranged weapons.

However you're not the only one who think that way (seeing the finger rather than the moon) as it's that exact line of thought that made ME devs make ME2 more a shooter and less an RPG than the first one.

As far as I'm concerned I like ME and Shooters, I don't like them to be the same, just like I like ME and DA, and don't want them to be the same.

What's wrong with a little less labels and little more variety.

To clarify: RPG stands for Role Playing Game. Not Turn Based Game. If you think about it, any game that has you playing as a character is a role playing game.

Just because game developers today have the technology to include live combat in RPGs does not mean that they aren't RPGs.

/Genres are limiting anyways
