Good survey. filled it out.
One issue though: some characters where I checked hate, now that I think about it I checked 'hate' because I feel strongly about them and that's a GOOD thing. In no way should my hate of Udina be construed as not wanting him in the next game: quite the opposite in fact.
So I'm not sure how you're going to be interpreting 'hate' responses but many people may be like me and checked it in a spirit that makes those responses almost as good as 'love'.

Question....if I hate a character in a good way (As in, I hate the character but that therefore makes them a good antagonist since they evoke a strong emotional response of the appropriate kind), what do I answer?

Don't worry. I've posted it in a number of other forums I frequent that don't have die-hard character fans. They're more casual gamers or people who are new to the game. This doesn't fix the problem, but it definitely helps.

I enjoyed taking this survey and besides the uber tali fans the results seem fair so far.
I think from now on if a survey is to be made Tali should be left out of it just to be fair.

So far, I've still been getting one or two votes a day. Last night I got 64. I thought someone had been spamming me

I wouldn't say die-hard fans, especially if you locked it to IPs which makes it impossible for people to vote twice. I'm a relatively newcomer to the ME franchise for example and I just voted as well. As for the sudden spike-- some kind soul necro-ed the thread for you yesterday. Maybe a good idea to bump this once a month or something.

I'm kind of glad it was necro'd, so long as those extra votes weren't double-votes. I'm really interested in these sorts of things and when I took the survey a few weeks ago I bookmarked the results so I could see how many more responses it got after I took it. It's cool when you get a good sample size, and this is probably the biggest extensive survey I've seen on these forums, at least. :3

I don't think the die-hard fans - even if they did vote multiple times - could put much of a dent in the numbers now. I don't think they would have done that anyway, but I do know multiple ways of getting around the IP lock easily, so I wouldn't put it past some people to try it.
Maybe I will keep it bumped. So many new people come to these forums every day, it would be nice to get as many of them to take the survey as possible.

can i ask, is this survey meant to discover what bioware fans want from the next game? or what mass effect fans want?
personally i dont think a bioware forum is the best place to do this,
what you're dealing with is devotees who are in love with the game,
have you tried it on a general game forum or somewhere like that?
i think you'd get a more general response to the game's presentation and execution,
the results in your poll trend towards in-character responses, if someone was evil people hated them etc., which is no reflection on anything really,

Gimme H, you might be surprised to see the amount of hate for the material posted at official boards when it comes to things like video games. If this was the official forums for say Natalie Portman you'd be pretty accurate, but not on video game forums. For crying out loud all the same people that were complaining about biotics back in January are still making threads complaining about biotics now.
And that's not even taking into the account the vocal minority aspect of the internet. Where you regularly see fringe opinions as the majority. I mean go to any rap forum and the vast majority of posters are going on about some scrub no one has ever heard of while talking about how X multi-platinum artist is a horrible media creation.

I think a fair amount of that is because people didn't see the voting the same way you and I did. For instance, when I finished the survey I read the comments that people had left and one of them was from someone who had voted that they disliked the Illusive Man. They said they voted that they disliked the character but found him interesting.
I viewed it the same way you did, and I voted like for any character I thought was well written regardless of thier in game alliance. I think the who would you choose as your squadmate numbers are a better reflection of who was well written and who wasn't. If only cause the 4 I chose are within the top 5 vote getters.
