thing is people select squad mates based on powers, i have no problem using mordin in my squad but i dislike his character and i avoid conversations with him because his style of dialogue is way too simplistic for me, it's not well thought through enough, it should be more complex and rambling and cryptic, instead of just dropping his "the"s and "and"s.

he scored very highly in the poll, and i can appreciate that a lot of people don't mind his delivery, but i don't think they'd be upset if it was improved,

to me that's what me3 should prioritize, rather than giving the converted what they want, who'll be as equally overjoyed and unhappy with the results as ever...

See, I LOVED Mordin's dialogue (unique delivery, funny lines) while thinking he wasn't particularly strong in combat. I'm glad Mordin scored highly.

fair enough,  ...(not believable delivery, makes the lines irrelevant) - sorry, couldn't resist

i guess i feel that more people would agree with me on a broader platform,

can i ask, is this survey meant to discover what bioware fans want from the next game? or what mass effect fans want?

personally i dont think a bioware forum is the best place to do this,
what you're dealing with is devotees who are in love with the game,
have you tried it on a general game forum or somewhere like that?
i think you'd get a more general response to the game's presentation and execution,
the results in your poll trend towards in-character responses, if someone was evil people hated them etc., which is no reflection on anything really,

I think I mentioned it already, but yes, this was posted in a number of mass effecst and general gaming forums. It's not going to be 100% accurate (however you would define accurate in regards to a survey) and it was never really designed to be. It's just a simple survey I made to get an idea of what characters were liked and disliked without using a 'favourite character poll'.

Making a survey that was designed to work out exactly why people liked or disliked every single character would have taken too long and been much too complicated.

If someone wants to make a more precise survey, then I give them my blessing. I would love to take part in that, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm done with this survey. I can't change it now, and even if I could, I probably wouldn't. It just gives a rough idea of what characters are well liked in the series. It's fulfilled its purpose :)

Where are the results? There used to be a link to google doc with the results, it is gone now. Thanks!

Very interesting
Why do predictable and rather flat characters s (Tali and EDI and Kasumi) get higher scores then the complex and intriguing ones like Saren, TIM and Udina. The survey is about the "character" not good or bad.

because some people find them not so flat and rather complex and intriguing?

I won't get into Tali because of the multiple thousand love thread and the scary fan base but I am really interested in how the latter two are "rather complex and intriguing".

that's just a matter of taste. people like different things and all that

i myself don't really get love for EDI, but for some reason Kasumi seems pretty likeable to me. i think it's just a matter of what kind of perception do you put into them

btw, Saren and TIM were pretty much flat sadistic evil guys in books, so it's all relative. in games they turned out much livelier

I know and I want to find what those things are. For instance what lies behind "likable".

Kasumi seemed cliché and childish especially past her loyalty in her quaters and whenever I brought her on a mission. No unique comments unlike, say, Zaeed (who has very fitting dialogue when you bring him along), Mordin or Legion. Just observations that didn't even express much personality or depth.

As for TIM being sadistic, I think it is made pretty clear that that side is absent from his personality, especially when he captures Grayson in Retribution (where he finds it too primitive and wrong, can't recall the right words). What I like about TIM is his strugle for his vision, the decisions and compromises. I am by no means pro-Cerberus but TIM has a lot of depth and personality. He may be called evil but not when you judge him by his ultimate goals (no matter how wrong they ultimately are).

Same goes for Saren, he has a vision and a very interesting one. Also, as a character he really develops. From an anti human "renegade" zealot following the council and getting the job done, no matter how, while being very resilient and determined emotionally and mentally. Then slowly turning into an idoctrinating tool and realizing that way too late, clearly showing remorse (after pursuasion checks) for his actions, hate of humanity and his failed perception on the Reapers (which btw is also very interesting and unique: saving at least some instead of none at all). He may be called sadistic but again, the only scene he displays that in is when he does what he considers his "job" (in a "renegade way, but nevertheless).

Evil and sadistic are in other words that are too simple, shallow and superficial to describe them.

oh fine Neuzhelin, i'm not going to explain anything to you with my shallow and superficial words anymore

just as Saren and TIM didn't seem flat to you in books, Tali, Kasumi and EDI don't seem flat to a lot of people. it's POV. deal with it

Okay, nevertheless do point out how Kasumi is "likable", "complex" and "intriguing" instead of giving up.
While you are at it, how TIM is sadistic and Saren downright evil?

Also, I believe that evil is something you conciosly choose to be, a part of TIM's charm is his devotion and development from an upper class American into what he percieves as something more enlightened.

EDIT: also don't twist my words. I did not call you or your words shallow and superficial, I said your description of Saren and TIM as purely evil and sadistic was.

Different strokes for different folks, Neuzhelin. You don't have to understand why someone voted the way they did. It's an opinion poll.

I really appreciate how you had seperated what you think of characters in general and what you think of them as love interests. I love Garrus, but romancing him is like commiting incest X(

To me the characters who are poor characters are the ones who get the most neutral response.

Indeed. A well-developed character elicits strong emotions, either positive or negative. It's telling that the majority of responses for Jacob were "I neither like nor dislike this character."
