Bioware stated that Dragon age: Origins was supposed to be the spiritual successor of Baldurs gate, but they never said Dragon Age 2 was supposed to be.

Remember DA:O the successor. Not DA2. Makes you really think about it now doesn't it.

Yep, another reason why people should stop saying how Dragon Age: Origins should stay as it is now completely and should resist change.



All good franchises evolve/change, so there's nothing wrong with what's going on here.

Define Baldur's Gate and the genre it was in, then look at how those would logically evolve over time.

Though this isn't as much of a positive as you probably thought it was when you made the post. They pushed the Baldur's Gate angle with Dragon Age as the 'Return of the True RPG'. Moving away from that is most likely (although admittedly, not assuredly) saying you are moving away from RPGs into the FPS with level-ups that have been all the rage the past couple years.

I don't mind DA2 trying to create it's own identity, that also doesn't mean I have to be as calm as a Hindu cow with every reveal 'because it's Bioware'.

Yes, but again, They said DA:O. Not DA so the logic is flawed. Its a very simple notion. I understand peoples feelings, but its not like ME 2 in the fact. They are making you upgrade your items and what not at least you hope not. They will still have the RPG traits. The only thing is its got a wheel.

I never played Baldur's Gate, so the whole thing is meaningless to me anyway.

All I know is DA:O was an amazing game, ME1 was an amazing game, and ME2 was an amazing game. I have no doubt they will turn out another amazing game.

Not even remotely as drastic as the changes from DA:O to DA2.

For instance, in Badlur's Gate 2, you had MORE customization options, not less. 
BG2 improved on BG1, it didn't throw out everything good from BG1 and try to rewrite the game using elements from a different RPG altogether.

Dude. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A RIOT!

You can't control a riot with 2 riot officers. Again, why we need more mods. I'm pushing for it because this forum NEEDS it. They need and deserve help handling this.

They've confirmed that 2-11 is still a Dragon Age product of some sort (I forget who posted it, I'll dig for Brock's quote of the quote), and according to their company information whatever it is is set for multiple gaming platforms, while DA2 is what...five weeks after that date?

One of my largest worries right now is they came out and said that if they used a player voice in Origins, they would have had to cut the rest of the dialogue in half and that the DLC would have suffered just the same. Now I'm wondering does that mean we are getting 50% of Origins just to hear Hawke, or do they have a much higher budget so that is no longer going to play, or was that just a 'Just tell them something to shut them up' dealio.

Like I said, I'm not drinking the kool-aid yet but I'm not burning them at the stake quite yet either. Thinking it perhaps.
