this is a ****ing stupid defense.

yes DA:O was said to be the successor...but there's this thing called consistency, and coherence.

Part of DA:O's success was JUST this very fact...and now that they drew people in they now want to, from the sound of it, dumb it down just like ME2 for the idiot halo/gears of war crowd.

or in other words....take a **** on their core fans that got them where they are in the first place.

but **** the core fans right? afterall they're not necessarily needed now that bio is where it is.

try again

Remember, DA2 is only the work title. All it means, is that it takes place within the same realm, within a 100 year timespan.

For the rest, we don't know *anything* about DA2. It might be the sequel to DA:O, but it might as well be an entirely seperate story in another corner of the world, taking place at the EXACT same time DA:O took place. It might even pre-date DA:O (only by one or two years perhaps, but it could!).

DA is a setting, which means they could easily use it for an RPG, but just as easily for a First Person Hack n Slash, an RTS, or if they so wished even an MMO (*washes mouth*).

Their next DA project happens to have a fixed-name player character. But for all we know, the one after that could have a custom name again. Or a hybrid name, for that matter, where you're given a fixed nickname (or a choice of 4-5 of those), which is/are used in VO, while the custom name is used during other circumstances.

Maybe that´s because Halo is both story-wise and gameplay-wise superior to ME / DAO.............

Chill.

If all Bioware's core fans are like you no wonder they say **** 'em
You are obviously butthurt over the changes they made to DA2 so you need to insult other to make yourself feel better and give yourself some false that a Dev will see your post and acually care what you have to say.

They've confirmed that 2-11 is still a Dragon Age product of some sort (I forget who posted it, I'll dig for Brock's quote of the quote), and according to their company information whatever it is is set for multiple gaming platforms, while DA2 is what...five weeks after that date?

Could anyone provide me a link to this information?

Because all I read until now was just a confirmation that february date will be "something" DA related, but I never read they confirmed is something related to gaming...and I never read a confirmation of a 2nd expansion to Origins..

Didn't anyone think this February product could be a new DA book, released 1 month before DA2 to introduce the new story? Or am I missing something?

I know there is an expansion. I don't know if they haven't said a date yet so if they did it like that it would make no sense. Now if they released an expansion around XMAS time. They would make some money and it would give us something to play and maybe finish our wardens before DA 2 is released thus all the people who hate the idea of Hawke will finally embrace all his glory. Unlikely. That realease date, whatever is might be, was first announced in a pre-release presscopy of Awakening sent to some gaming sites and mags. Why would they sent a mysterious release-date-announcement about a new DA book to video-gaming journalists. I suspect whatever it is, it will be something of importance for video gaming journalists and therefore video gamers alike

I wouldn't find too much reasonable to announce the sequel before an expansion which is planned to be released before that sequel... What kind of market strategy it will be?!

Moreover... If you put money in a 2nd expansion, will you release it only 1 month before the sequel?! There will be no any reason to rush things in that way. An expansion deserve a marketing strategy more or less like a sequel, with trailers, demos and so on..like they did for Awakening
I have never seen a company working both to a xpac and a sequel in the same time.

Even if I'd like it to be an expansion I find it impossible.

Yes they would make some money... But they would also SPEND a lot of money.. An expansion is not something too cheap to release, and they won't do that just for the pleasure of their fan. You have to consider that the customer base is not composed only by RPG fanatics like me or many other folks who write into these forums.. There are also many "occasional" players which don't care too much about story, continuity and so on.. and if they had to choose between an expansion and a sequel released at the same time, they would just skip the xpac and buy the sequel.. and they won't risk to  waste their money for a game that only a part of the players would buy.

They'd only be ****ing you over if they advertised it as exactly the same and got your money for it before you found out it wasn't.

They're allowed to do whatever they want: it's their game, their franchise. Give them the benefit of the doubt because you apparently liked Origins so much or don't. You don't have to like it, and you sure as hell don't have to buy it.

Try again.

I never said anything like this release will be an expansion. I only said as this announcement was made to video-gaming journalists, it will have something to do with video gaming and not books, comics or anything else. That was my guess.

1: a sequel is announced about a year pre release, an xpac about three to four months pre release. Do you really believe as anyone is awating the sequel, someone would miss the xpac release? They will also release new dlc for Origins, and it seems they're not afraid one would hurt the other.

2: why not? The latest xpac could provide closure to the Warden's story or set the stage for the upcoming game. It's the same as releasing books pre game release. Give them something to play, make them even more excited than they are already are. There is no reasonable argument why both would exclude each other. And besides, Awakening did not even got close in marketing efforts as Origins was. And if that xpac closes the Warden's sotry and prepares the stage for DA 2, you could even combine that marketing strategy.

3: how do you think Awakening was developed? I'll take every bet DA 2 was already in pre development while Awakening was done. The same vice versa: while Origins was still in the final development phase, i am sure Awakening was already in development. That'S the whole point of the big gaming companies, so you can do more than one thign at the same time

I edited my post... But I can repeat what I said... Their customer base is not composed only by RPG fanatics like me and you.. There are also many "occasional" players which won't spend their money for both an xpac and a sequel.. I know many people who play RPGs just for fun but they don't care about story, continuity and so on... Therefore they would just skip the xpac for the sequel.... perhaps buying the xpac later when price will drop

Why would they ever risk to make competition to themselves ?? Losing potential customers for one game just for the pleasure of some fans? I don't think so !

If they would ever release a 2nd expansion they will try to maximize the sales, not to release it as a "bonus" for more devoted players... For them (us) there are DLC

yeah, but xpacs do not appeal to the same customer base as full fledged games. Just look More or less, xpacs will be bought by a hardcore fanbase which is way less than the ones bying the original game. And these ones will most likely by both games anyway

They don't appeal to the same full base like major titles, but they still have a lerger audience than a DLC...
Anything can happen but I'll never trust they will release an expansion which could have more or less the same target of a DLC.

Expanions still remain high-budget products.. not as high as major rleases but still high...

MaxQuartiroli you need to remember that the teams who do the regular game and the teams who do the DLC and Xpansions are not the same. The writers I think are, but the teams are not. Now the leads watch over both teams if I recall, but they have different departments for each so they could release an expansion and then shortly release the DA 2 as well. Either way they are going to make money and if you had read what I said earlier. They would release the xpansion around the holidays to keep the people busy until the game is released in the spring. It works out very well and it would be good money and yes not just the hardcore gamers buy the xpansions. Regular people have bought xpansions as of lately. Game is bigger than it was in the damn 90s. Hell they are bigger than movies now. Why people everyone plays games now. There isn't a person who doesn't play some type of video game in this modern world. Welcome to the new world.,
