With a story that spans a decade there is alot of room to do some come cool and unique things with the companion characters and it would be a shame to fudge it up (again). I want more conversations, more interaction between allies. I want the companion characters to show signs of personal growth.
A lot can happen in the span of 10 years to change a person for better or worse and it would be cool to see that develop in DA2.
If the game starts out with 12 single, happy-go-lucky, over-the-top angry at the world, or cry babies (Did i miss any classic Bioware Arch-type character personalities?); then spans 10 years only to end with all the characters remaining single and acting/feeling exactly the same. Then FAIL!

Wait, wait, I'm just kidding on that one... Okay, seriously now, here's something I would like to see more in DA2. Group conversations. You know that particular scene in DAO... don't want to spoil anything, but it's a minor detail... at the Dalish Elves camp, when an Elf dude tells a story and your all crew sits around this gathering place to listen... It's kind of magical. I would definitely like to see this explored, for example, at your party camp, so that some conversations at particularly important moments in the narrative include you and all your team talking with eachother. That would be sweet.

Give rogues more roguish armor, less skirts
Give warriors more variants of massive, heavy, and other armors besides changing a small carving on Cailans armor and putting a griffon on the WC armor. I'm thinkin spikes maybe
Since we are forced to play as this Hawke fella, I suggest we get a hawke we can carry in battle that doesn't take up our 4 party space and it can be like our mabari in origins (find stuff and fight...)
More variety in our romances. Yeah, I liked romancing Morrigan and Leliana, but both are humans. Give us an attractive Elven murdering wench who we recruit and can romance (Sounds like Zevran now that I think of it, but still). Or possibly a little dwarven lass we can romance. As for the ladies that play this game, I'll let you speak of what you prefer as romance.
Spears and whatnot, polearms like others have said. There are tons more, but others will touch up on that

The armour for warriors was fine in my opinion, but for mages and rouges needed more variety, colour and pants... and fewer dumb hats. Although the popular cloaks / capes / flowing robes / hoods meme would be a welcome inclusion.
I'd like to field four party members, in addition to the PC.
I'd like horses, even if they only exist to pull wagons / ploughs / my gear from point to point... horses are kind of a hallmark of high fantasy.
Interparty interaction, NPC's banter when they're in the party, but when we get to camp they sit by themselves... which really breaks with immersion. And I'd like to see them romancing each other... once we've reached a certain point with a different NPC, so as not to limit our choices.
Call me crazy, but I really don't like the idea of carrying weapons on charectors backs... shields are fine, but it looks odd for daggers / swords / maces / walking sticks. And it's darn difficult to get a weapon off your shoulder in combat, historicaly knights had scabbards so I'd like to see those in game instead.
Externally, I'll will be buying this on console so, I'd like there to be some sort of social thing where Bioware put the community created content on their website and every month or so hold a poll about what should be released to the consoles... it doesn't need to be horse armour, but console owners don't have the option of importing self created content.
Please.

1. Open, non-linear parts where I have time to do a massive amount of interesting and cool (and also some long) sidequests that add to the storyline.
2. Great and unique Followers with lots of party interaction - I am sure we will get those. Also, don't let Bethany die.
3. Some nice villains that actually can talk. I would like to meet them several times, not only at the end. Also, they should be clever and have a good motivation for being my enemy (possibly not really evil, but kind of a grey morality).
4. A plot twist that is really unexpected (which is difficult or almost impossible to do these days, I know that).
5. More talent and spell specialization - make the specializations more unique and more important or increase the amount of aviable classes.
6. More weapon types (polearms!).
7. Different item skins. Especially when it comes to mage hats
8. Make the game a little less heroic. Along with that, more varied soundtrack. Some other styles and instruments. Also, it would be nice to have character themes (like we had them in Jade Empire).
9. If you really have to have ME-style conversations, bring me the interrupt options as well!
10. Don't use the gift / influence system again. It just seems so cheap what you can do by bringing certain characters a few fancy objects...

Someone else mentioned it already, but I'll elaborate: I want a "pet dragon". I want to be able to steal a dragon egg from some cave, then pet the little dragon for some time, and then in the final stages of the game he could join me in my fights... Wouldnt that be awesome?

It would be sweet if someone in your party (perhaps Flemeth?) could change into a dragon at some point during a fight.

A DA2 that is DA:O length; not ME2 length.
I love 80+ games, but what is wrong with a 40+ hour game?
Since when was dragon age origins an 80+ hour game?
Hint: most of the side quests are in areas you will go to anyway, doing every side quest lengthens the game from 30 hours to 40 hours, I know, I just did a full completion (my very first completion was 32 hours, with minimal side quests) (PS: anyone know if siding with Bhelen and doing his side of the orzammar quest chain gives 19% or so completion? I'm 81% done and have NEVER done his side because even my most practical charactrs think he's a total docuhe)

Really? I've done 3 completions (2 of them doing every side quest I could find) in under 120 hours, then maybe spent another 30 on runs that I never finished. What'd you do for the other 80 hours? listen to every single one of Leliana's stories?

Here's mine. Most of them are admittedly petty:
- I would like a body build slider. Ever played Guild Wars? I think they did a great job of letting you choose how tall or short or whatever you wanted to be.
- More tattooes! Scars would be neat, too.
- Mage clothing where I don't have to wear a pineapple hat and my ladies' cleavage isn't falling out all over the place. Especially on the older ladies. Eeeeeegh.
I would even love something along these lines, too:
diablo.incgamers.com/gallery/data/501/medium/femonk-goliatgladius.jpg
- Continued support for the modding community.
- Another 80 hours of ~*~adventure~*~.
And
- Cloaks.

-Shoulder pads without clipping issues
-Archery that doesn't suck ass (ever complete the game as an archer rogue? Every archery active talent actually lowers your overall damage output, except arrow of slaying, though it takes so long to fire it might be better to fire the 4-6 standard arrows a good rapid aim bow will get off)
-Some more varied combat animations (I was really impressed with the animations on my first playthrough, well, up until the third ogre I saw killed with the special ogre killing animation, that bugs horribly in certain fighting styles)
-Combat a little closer to the cinematics (this is kind of an animation thing again, but I just rewatched the sacred ashes trailer for Dragon age: origins and the game in that cinematic kicks the crap out of the actual game, I know, I know it's a cinematic, but even some little thing from it would've been nice, god knows why they chose to make shape-shifting a non-instant thing as it's sort of a last ditch effort thing for me)
-Better class balance in general (Don't make me feel like I need to pick a specific class/specialisation to not suck, archery rogue was near unbearable, early on it was better to ignore my archery talents and just backstab like crazy)
-On the subject of importing your dragon age Origins save game, and how the things you did in DA:O Will effect the world of Dragon Age 2, figure out a way to bring my character into the new art style, I'm the goddamn hero of Ferelden, essentially the Arl of Ameranthine AND the princess-consort of Ferelden, by this point I'm a pretty damn important character in the lore (I realise that is somewhat non-canon, when you think about the books, but the point of an epic RPG is meant to be your character's rise to being an important character in the self-contained lore of that particular instance of the game, every DnD player wants to be as big as Elminster I think).
I LOVED dragon age, (I've spent over 150 hours on it, more than any other single player game, actually) but there's so much I hate about it too

Better loot from boss monsters and quest rewards, didn't like that all the best loot (not incl. DLC gear) was bought at stores.

- STORAGE! Maybe even eventually my own estate or home
- Pants for mages and rogues.
- Choosing good aligned actions shouldn't mean you have to be poor. In DAO being good often meant losing out on loot and money or you had to give away your wealth.
- Better stealing. I love robbing people blind in games like Oblivion. You should have to strategize to take certain things and there should be consequences for being caught.
- More interaction with companions/love interests.
- If they include rune crafting, it should be ORGANIZED BY RUNE!
- Less filler mobs. When running through an area, hitting wave after wave of small groups of easily dispatched enemies gets really old. I want each fight to take some thought and planning.
- I would love mention and even cameos of what happened to my companions and my warden based on my imported save.

and mages. Mages just don't look badass in dao.
I like the hoods and cape idea?
Not a ME2 armour system, I thought it was terrible (sorry)
I think it's been mentioned but lots of carry-through storyline
from DAO based from a saved game.
Some familiar faces from our old party.
Maybe a home base where we can store our collected armour
on a manequin or something
I liked how we could build up the fortress from quests and tasks
and gold in awakening, but maybe have choices that have different outcomes
in a battle if we defended it.
Is it possible to meet our old pc grey warden? I know the logistics of this would be difficult
to implement... I can dream though...
I'd like to see a morrigan/god baby carry-through
that's all I can think of at the moment .. But yeah I loved how DAO
was like 100 + hrs of playthrough, so same length pls.
ME2 was far far too short, I didn't play twice, but I played DAO 6 times
over.

More interesting boss fights, The archdemon was a good start, but for the most part, DA:Os boss fights were "stab it till it's dead" some of the smaller encounters required more strategy than say Broodmother, and the Great dragon was a bit of a step in the wrong direction if you ask me, it was a stab it till it's dead fight with the annoyance of sometimes being jumped on,which was so random that it made developing a strategy impossible.
