Why all the Hawke hate?

The story was also about you, the main protagonist's story in the game.It was very deep and rich, I remember.
As for Hawke being human and from Lothering, it seems that yes, there could be (is) probably a story reason why the main character is described this way in DA2. Bioware apparently want to tell Hawke's story through certian events that happened in he past, but now being retold in the present via us living (gaming) Hawke's story.
I'm getting a fairly good vibe about this game - an adventure game vibe that is. Not a la Oblivion but more like The Longest Journey and Syberia and the new Sherlock Holmes games.

What's not to hate?
How is she like shep? (yes I am calling hawke a girl cause thats who she is going to be for me) so far the only similarties between the two is the dialouge wheel and the more I hear about that the more I am liking it, last few things I heard was the tonality was going to be represented in the small frase by an icon. Vary different then just a simple paragon or renegade response that could be any tone really.
The whole voiced protagonist thing is also sort of funny, I remember when DAO was coming out and there was no voice acting for the main char that there were doomsays then as well. In either case this was yet another situation where the developer wanting to tell a different story was doomed if they did doomed if they did not. Also david gaider (lead writer) has said in multiple posts (I am not going to link them you can use the handy search function for that) that he feels he is telling a lot more indepth story then he could have ever in DAO. Which imo is what is really important. Playing the story your way.
So really all I am saying is DA2 has a lot of potential and those who are bashing hawke really need to hold onto their rocks just a while longer. I am sure DA2 is going to be a riot to play, as long as her voice actor is going is good as well.
Mass Effect.
Oi its ok I understand that all you see is masseffect mass effect. *pats* you get a candy for it.
however I do not see it being completely that way, not yet at least, it really depends on the choises we are given, but if you want to convince me that it is masseffect DA2 style then please explain your view in more then just 2 words as I have.

First time you play the game Play as Hawk, then after you beat the game, play it again only play as one of the other potential party members. Instead of hawk encountering them and recruiting them you could encounter Hawk and recruit him for your mission. What was his primary mission might not be your primary mission each team member usually has some sort of Loyal or main goal as well. Make that your main goal and still make the games main goal Hawks.
It would still be very fun. Everyone could play from a different origin each time and you could see the story evolve from a different perspective. You could still use the voice overs, and still have fixed dialog interactions with the other characters based on personality types.

Check this forum after a couple of months from the release of the game and then you'll see it full of topics like "Hawke in DA3" and "Please Bioware let us keep Hawke for DA3"
People change opinion so quickly...

I don't care about, nor for, any character in any game; thus I do not care who the hell Hawke is. In RPGs they are merely pack mules and skill vehicles. I hate it when "Character interaction" is tauted on games; the only things I care about are the combat, skill system & exploration. Provided they do these well, things should be okay.
Not everyone is about the game play, some people actually play games for their story, just like some people read comic books for the art.

You're wrong.
It'll be, "Hawke in ME3" and "Hawke as Squadmate/LI in ME3". Think broader.

He screams bad ****. I could never play as default character in any RPG where you can alter appearance. I always like to make the main character my own. For example, I could never bring myself to play as default Shepard in ME.
However, I look forward to playing default Hawke just cause DAMMIT he looks cool.

However, I do realize we haven't heard much about the character yet and what we've heard seems geared towards getting FPS-happy males interested in the game.

I am totally the opposite of a FPS-happy male player, but I am interested in the game the same...

It's not hate, but thus far I haven't heard anything that interested me about the character. I don't like playing humans, for one thing. The Cousland story was fine, but if that was all I had, it would not have held my interest nearly as much as DAO has done.

I can understand not liking to play humans, when I heard you could not select your race and was limited to only playing humans I was red in the face screaming at Bioware XD I loved playing my dwarf to much. But this is a different game, I would be more upset if the game was named Dragon age orgins 2 but alas it is named just Dragon age 2, so it really is just a different game.
But I think hawke is going to be awesome regardless.

Kind of like the violence trailer.

What I want is a REAL SEQUEL !!! a continuation for your origins characters, not a quick and default story :S but it seems that the warden story is ended :S a bad thing in my opinion

Personaly, I don't hate Hawke. In fact my attitude towards him can best be described as indifferent right now.
I know very little about him other than a few scant details.
Once I've had a chance to play the game itself and see what the story is like and what Hawke is like, I'll be able to decide whether I like him or not.

We knew that the Warden's story prob wouldn't countinue. The devs strait out told us, way back before DA:O was released, that the main character wouldn't necessarly transfer to future sequels. They made that very clear and never hid it or promised otherwise.

Yes, but they should have told us they wouldn't keep the races either. Thats the part which is BULL! and I state this with utmost hate!

As I asked in another topic would you really like to see something like NWN2? Where you could choose your race and then you begin the game as a son of an ELF? Well I played 2 characters the first one was a DROW and second was a DWARF. Quite silly, don't you think so?
I think they forced you to play as a human for a reason, maybe that playing another race won't fit well with the story they had in their mind
My advice therefore is to wait to see the reason for this choice, and only after that we should discuss if they were right or not..

I will and I hope its good. I don't care about the character of hawke. I don't care that hes voiced and I don't care hes not a warden. I care I can't play as another race and actually the way they set it up was ok. I owned that game and I like it.

I don't understand why people are getting annoyed about race myself, even included it either would limit you or not make sense after they explained that Hawke was a survivor of Lothering, if you were a Dwarf, you'd most likely have to be a trader and you'd be casteless, being an Elf wouldn't make sense because the non-dalish elves only live in cities where they can be protected can't they?
And Qunarri wouldn't make sense either because the codex entry on Sten (I think it's Sten, not the entry for Lothering) that says he is the strangest thing the people of Lothering have seen.

I think most of the people that are getting angry have heard about the whole single race and vioced character and assuming that there's not much more for them to customise, I think Bioware should release character customisation news as soon as they can so that the fans calm down and (hopefully) start to get excited about the game.
