Fair enough, I forget about them, but if they had included Elves, it would still have limited you to city elves (unless I'm forgetting any Dalish Elves if there were any.)Tooneyman wrote...

I don't understand why people are getting annoyed about race myself, even included it either would limit you or not make sense after they explained that Hawke was a survivor of Lothering, if you were a Dwarf, you'd most likely have to be a trader and you'd be casteless, being an Elf wouldn't make sense because the non-dalish elves only live in cities where they can be protected can't they?
And Qunarri wouldn't make sense either because the codex entry on Sten (I think it's Sten, not the entry for Lothering) that says he is the strangest thing the people of Lothering have seen.

I only played the Noble Human origin so I don't know if they were good or bad so I'll trust you on that. My point though, is that if Bioware gave people the option of races, they'd still have less options or it wouldn't make sense. I'd rather just have a human option which makes sense rather than an equal amount of amounts, half of which may not make sense.Tooneyman wrote...

Move on... such was always bioware's plan. They made it clear future dragon age sequels wouldn't carry the same main character like ME1 to ME2.
Besides after spending well over 100 hours with the Warden I want to move on. Infact, I'm pretty bored with the whole Warden thing.

I am going to be laughing when DA3 comes out and its yet another char and people are going to be like Where is mah hawke ;-; I can taiste the tasty tears already.

Those elves were refugees who were stuck because they got robbed, they didn't LIVE in Lothering, while Hawke is said to be FROM Lothering

If we go back 12 years or so, to the release of Baldur's Gate (the first one), you had a fixed protagonist as well. There was only one origin story (you'd grown up in Candlekeep) - and then stuff happened.
Which is why I always prefered Icewind Dale to Baldur's Gate.
Black Isle/Obsidian makes good RPGs. Bioware makes good JRPGs.

Doesn't a JRPG by definition have to come from a Japanese studio? Or have I just totally lost my grip on reality?

No, it's just that in today's generation of instant communication/information and self-entitlement, people can use whatever definition they want for whatever they want.

The Wikipedia gods tell me this:
"Due to cultural differences between game developers, historically different inspirations, origins and distinct target audiences, two main trends of role-playing video games exist: the Western RPG (WRPG) and the Japanese RPG (JRPG) or Eastern RPG; the latter of which was heavily influenced by the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games. JRPGs usually tend to place a greater emphasis on tightly orchestrated, linear narratives, whereas Western RPGS usually tend to focus more on open-ended, non-linear gameplay. Most JRPG plots tend to use linear storylines and reuse similar formulas and archetypes, and they focus more on scripted cut scenes and dialogue. However, they are not considered to be true role-playing games as there is generally not branching outcomes and instead the term is used because they are derived from the more open-ended role-playing games. In contrast, most WRPGs have more non-linear exploration and story development as well as greater control of the player character's development, both of which come at the price of more generic dialogue and less focus on essential gameplay, specifically the battle system."
Bold part sounds about right for a Bioware game. I don't think it's a stretch to suggest they're going to end up having more in common with JRPG developers than traditional Western RPG developers if they keep going down this "VO dialogue and ossum story > player control" path.

Check this forum after a couple of months from the release of the game and then you'll see it full of topics like "Hawke in DA3" and "Please Bioware let us keep Hawke for DA3"
People change opinion so quickly...
You're wrong.
It'll be, "Hawke in ME3" and "Hawke as Squadmate/LI in ME3". Think broader.

Surely, I wasn't the only person who saw we got to pick out voice in Dragon Age: Origins and was disappointed when there was no speaking, just grunts and war cries.

I don't know what they were expecting the Warden to get up to, though, considering there's, like, a dozen of different endings for him/her and none of them would provide enough material for a new game, unless they wanted to do something like with Awakening which is just "Hey dude I know you specically chose your own epilogue but there are still some darkspawn around and they can talk", in which case it may as well be a new character altogether for all the relevance it would have to DA:O.

Ah Wikipedia, the Holy Grail of reliable information. You say it has more in common with it but it would still not be a JRPG. My issue M4 and 16A4 has a lot in common with the G36 but it would be a far stretch to say that then they ARE G36s. But hey, I really couldn't care what label is thrown on a piece of entertainment so long as I find it enjoyable....so mislabel away.
